Who ever downloaded this the biggest thanks ever I bought dickey betts first album when it came out great southern and right behind it Atlanta's burning down and then on anyway thanks!!!!!!
you should chec out an album he put out in 2001 ,called the Collectors # 1 . its pretty cool ,acoustic mostly if i remember correctly , but i do remember some of it had a cajun N'ORLEANS SOUnd to it , it was great .i believe Dickey ARRAINGED EVERY thing on it ,. it was pretty cool , Chec it Out .
I saw this band play on a temporary stage in the National Guard Armory in Santa Rosa California - a concrete Quonset building used to store heavy machinery. There were maybe a few hundred people there, but you would never have known it. Those guys play their hearts out, song after song. I remember them ending with Rambling Man and thinking that this one they’ll just phone in and get gone, but no. Seemed like they played it for 20 minutes, most of the time Betts’ boots inches away at the edge of the stage, just gettin it. Hard working guys, delivering. Nobody better
Thanks for this one...just wish Dickey could have been included in those last shows with the band he helped create. You're not forgotten by your REAL fans.
@@peterbetts858 Ah yeah! He really does look like his Dad and when he plays, you can hear how he listened to his Dad's work all those years while he was growing up. I'll bet it's really hard and emotionally challenging to be the son of a famous, highly-accomplished father. How in the world would such a son find his own voice but I do think Duane is doing it. I do not envy Duane Betts. No sir, I do not envy him at all.
Here's a comment from a real fan: this is Dickey as a young man who could make his guitar dance with him over Jessica as well as play Liz Reed like the love song it really is. He certainly had the pipes to go along with anything from Bougainvillia to Ramblin Man. And those guys he chose to embellish his fine talent: Dan and David To!er, Workman on keys, hi standby drummer Sharbonno. And listen to the Rook carry the Latin grooved High Falls. Never heard it better (except possibly with Jack Pearson). Those of us who have kept with you through your years as you gradually slowed down but every bit as wonderful with Andy Aledort, Pedro Aravedo, as you apprenticed your son Duane, we know your talent has been underrated by those folks at Rolling Stone who rated you #67 in the top 100 guitarists. They didn't even recognize that Clapton had no ears to play Liz Reed. We think you were once the best Dickey's Betts, just as Duane Allman kmew.
@@kvnboudreaux You're with me on that. Btw,his son Duane just put out an album, "Stare at the Sun," I believe it's called, to celebrate his Dad. Beautiful. Check it out.
Wow, what a concert. RIP Dickey, I seen you many times with Great Southern and the Allman Brothers where you always put on a great show! What a band is forming up in heaven!
Dickie put a great line-up together for this band. They are all terrific musicians but, for me, it is the two drummers who really steal the show. Donnie Sharbono and Frankie Toler are two of the best drummers I have ever seen, and I can watch their 'High Falls' solos over and over again in total awe. Anyone who really likes this terrific concert should try to get hold of a copy of the 2-disc DVD set of Dickie Betts and Great Southern at Rockpalast. The first of the two gigs was held at roughly the same period as this concert, and has much the same set-list, but the production is immense, and it has great sound and picture quality. I totally recommend it.
Betts is on fire here, not playing off key or missing notes like he was in the late 90’s before they fired him. Dangerous Dan was so underrated, bass player awesome and drummers superb. Great line up
Dangerous Dan the best damn melodic guitar player ever. He may play slower parts than Dickey, but his is superb and I would say that Dickey's is too: two different trains complimenting eachother. Oh!!!! What lovely sounds of rock n' roll, positive spirit and have fun no matter what you're goin' thru. Y'all are my heroes. I love yall😅
I love you your music is shear perfection. It carries you away leaving you wanting more. For extended endurance melodies beyond infinite!!! You’ve given me goosebumps and taken my my breathe away!! I saw your concert in 1998 this continues every time I listen.
Nice show . decent sound ,from a great time period , cool set list . ill be back to roll with this one . thks for post . Canada . damn that bass sounds good .
Man I went to Jersey in 83, wish I was there then at the Capital off Monroe St See Dickey was pulling leads the same way as later on sounds rocken cool
No, that is David "Frankie" Toler. Dan Toler's (the other lead guitarist) brother. He would later go on to replace Jaimoe with the Allman Brothers Band in their 2nd incarnation in 1981-1983.
