Phil Hare is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter and performer. In his professional capacity Phil teaches guitar, plays solo gigs in folk/roots venues around the world, deps occasionally with other bands and also plays as a session musician. These videos are largely improvised in that Phil gets an idea around a structure and then records it in a fairly 'ad hoc' way - primarily to remember the idea without writing it down, and to have a frame of reference. As Phil writes everything on the guitar, most of these videos are guitar-based - and indeed, many are instrumental. That is not to say that Phil's live gigs are instrumental affairs; in fact there are many songs. But, as Phil largely writes his own songs, he would prefer it if you bought the CD's or downloads rather than taking it all from here! As Phil's gigs are very varied affairs, the videos also try to reflect the diversity of material as well as the more comic and off-the-cuff elements. Many thanks to the stated publishers.
Rest in peace, Phil. Thank you for being one of my influences as a young guitarist. You, in so many ways, were as much an influence on the folk guitar as your musical idols. You kept the sounds alive, and through your recordings and RU-vid videos, they are now eternal to music lovers worldwide. Sending my best and condolences to you and your family. When I had been recently broken up after a relationship, I found your cover of "I Can't Make You Love Me" which lead me to listening to your whole channel. Also with the great Nic Jones covers.
having both Irish, and Spanish roots ; must be directing me towards DADGAD, Celtic music. And with a 12 string available, I'm ready to explore. Thanks, brother!
Cheers Keith. If you have a cittern or a bouzouki then the CGDGGD tuning on guitar makes 'em redundant! In fact, any of those types of tunings will do the trick: DADDAD, EEEEBE etc etc. All the best.
