Also yes to the outdated sound, I listened and was reminded of 2011 britney spears. Back then they were hits but today's age of pop has evolved from that decade.
I felt the exact same way about the album. I heard about the release so I went to the RU-vid channel and watched a couple of the music videos and I really just wasnt captivated at all. Also the people people saying we're all just haters as if Katy Perry hasn't had numerous MAJOR hits in the past that still play in the radio to this day💀💀💀 this album gave me big "forced to just put something out quick" vibes. Very quantity not quality.
Guys I say this with love - a critique isnt hate. Theres going to be a lot of people who dont have the same opinion as you on things; and thats fine! It's not the end of the world. There's some really salient points in here that I hope Katy takes on board - namely the production just smothering her rather than lifting her up and helping her "Katyness" shine, as that is what producers are supposed to do. Also as someone who around the same age as Katy with a daughter, I want her to find that inspirational spark in her current life rather than falling into the trap of trying to be 'with the trend' (which must be so bloody hard as a woman in the industry, I cant imagine the pressure). We dont need bells and whistles and gimmicks - people liked her because she was quirky and wore her heart on her sleeve and was just herself. I'm old enough to remember soooo many popstars having a moment like this and coming back another time and smashing it. Lifes all about swings and roundabouts. If you like 143 thats great! Awesome and more power to you. You dont need to go on the attack with people who dont agree with you. 🖤 .....now I feel like that one chick in Mean Girls who is like "I wish we could bake a cake filled with rainbows" SHE DOESNT EVEN GO HERE
She was heavily marketed to children who have now grown up and cant seem to grasp that she was always mid. That her heyday really was never as great as you imagined it and this downfall really shouldnt come as a surprise to anyone. So many of her peers were always more authentic and more interesting than she was. She just had powerful people like Luke in her corner. And when your success is based on such vacuousness without the wit or the talent to back yourself up as a failsafe then you end up where shes at rn. People need to just let her go and support actual artists, in an era where there is boundless interesting female pop artists to explore. Stop defending Katy Perry and stop reaching to save her from her own mediocrity.
@vanillac0keh3ad Katy Perry was always seen as a big singles artist and that did carry her for a very big portion of time because she just keep pumping out smash hits, but when the lights die down, albums do matter to really make your fan base strong and longer lasting. I'm hoping that this can be a wake up call to Katy Perry because I think with some better people working around her and maybe stripping it down and starting anew like I was saying in the video, could make a big difference in the long term. Thanks for watching and thank you for the comment 🙏
Just found your channel - really like the considered way you looked over the album. This was a thoughtful and measured review. The album was so over produced it was stripped of any of it's humanity or what makes Katy "Katy", it is sad. Looking forward to seeing your other stuff.
I mean to each their own but the album is great imo and many others cus pure sales wise she is one of only two artists projected to be in the top ten this week with at least double digit sales. Sales to me is more impressive cus ppl paid full price for a specific artists album rather than just stream it for basically free since it was already included in their monthly subscription price. That shows more dedication. And a top ten debut for an album with zero hit singles , insanely minimal promotion (no talk show appearances in the US, no late night or SNL performances, only promo really was on radio and on the VMAs) and a massive online hate train, a top ten debut is actually just a testament to the fact that as much as ppl say she’s over there’s clearly tons of ppl that still like and support her.
@Gabe-z8o That's fair I'm glad that you got more enjoyment out of the album then I did. If people are paying full price for the album and for merch I think that's really cool and I'm happy that her core fan base is willing to support her that way. Streaming really doesn't give much (especially smaller acts) incentive for artists while the streaming platform themselves make bank off of their work. Thanks for the thought out and thorough comment I appreciate it 🙏
UPDATE: Thank you very much to getting this video to 1k in just over a day. Even if we don't agree, I do appreciate you giving the time to watch and to comment. I never want to come off saying my own opinion is the only opinion, you're more the welcome to love this album and Katy Perry. With that being said, if this video reaches 2k, I will buy 143 merch and will wear it through the next set of videos I make. If you like the content here, feel free to like, comment and subscribe. Thank you all very much 🙏
Teenage Dream is truly overrated though. A lot of people speak on it like this without actually revisiting it as an album. It had hit singles, some of which have aged quite poorly others were never great to begin with. She was all hype with powerful collaborators like Luke that kept her a radio mainstay. Shes still attached to powerful people. But the music was truly and honestly always kinda mid. So it having gotten worse should be a surprise to no one. Because when you put yourself as a product rather than an artist, you wont have longevity.
As I said in the video, I made a video on woman's world and this was the follow up. I think I am pretty measured in my review I don't say anything malicious or rude, I just say the songwriting isn't good and the production is dated, it's all about the album and not her as a person. I even say at the end of the review that I think it would be cool to have an album with songwriting like Wonder and to be more grounded. You're more then welcome to love katy Perry and this album, I just didn't like it. That's all there is to it.
I really agree with the lyrics in Woman's World, they are so basic, old and done before. The packaging of this album is very slick and she's an absolute pro, but come on, Look at Kylie Minogue, her sounds and her lyrics are so cool and clever... I do like I'm His, He's mine though haha... And the videos are humorous though and it contains her personality for sure and futuristic vibes...
I agree I do think the presentation of this record is pretty slick and I forgot to mention as well is that this album does have really good cohesion and sequencing from track to track. However it doesn't save it much for me. Pops in a really cool place right now and I hope Katy can get on that train soon as well.
I went to a listening party for this album and it wasn't as bad as everyone is saying. It's worth mentioning that I was 1 of 8 people that attended. I respect your opinions about the album but I think if "I'm His, He's Mine" was the lead single, the album would have done a lot better. "Woman's World" was not the right choice. Overall, I found about half of the album decent, 25% good (I'm His, He's Mine, Lifetimes, and Wonder), and then 25% is bad.
That's pretty sick! I've always wanted to go to something like that. Even if it would be an album I may not like, being one of the first to hear the album in a setting like that is pretty cool. And fair, I'm glad you liked those tracks and had a better experience with it then I had 🙏♥️
@@snowchild9837 It was 1 of 8 for a bad reason lol. No one showed up. I just want to be clear about that XD. They had a ton of giveaways and since there was so few people everyone got something.
When something is diabolically awful, people are gonna talk about it. Granted, some of the people only know the surface while others dive deep into the topic. But it doesn't matter, the product and her career is still a trainwreck
He really needed to go out with his highs now he will be remembered for the garbage he put out at the very end I can’t believe the team around him are cool with letting him put that crap out there
I’m saying the same thing I can’t believe no one else posted on this.. I was always willing to give G a chance because he really did hit the pod casts to try and promote the album himself but not sure what is going on with his label or if he’s even still signed.. regardless the last 2 years of music from him has been terrible..
Yeah I saw a bunch of them once I put out the review. It seemed that he put in the legwork to get the project off the ground but there was nothing else besides that. Maybe what's best for him now is to go independent because RCA is doing nothing for him.
Don't know why there are so many people defending If Looks Could Kill, that's the worst album I have ever heard from 2023 or whatever when it was released. I'm not going to defend Love Lasts Forever, but I definetely enjoy a little more Destroy Lonely when he goes over lively beats.Cause most of the beats on ILCK are so boring, lifeless and souless that I even refuse to listen to the full tracks(I don't even want to,to be honest) The mixing is definetely a big issue of this project too, but at the same time the beats are honestly the best part of this project. The reason why LLF sucks is cause Destroy Lonely doesn't have good mixing and it's uncapable of rapping anything interesting (let alone in a 20+ track album). Hell if Ken Carson is the best feature on this whole project, then you know this was so ass.
For me personally I do really enjoy the production consistency with the guitars and creating a more dark tone. I think it contrasted very well with his more melodic delivery. Some beats like Love Hurts and Crystal Clear I do enjoy but overall the production does falter in the mixing department as you were saying. Not to mention vocally it seems so slapped together that no one seemed to work on it in the slightest. I wouldn't be surprised to see another album in 6 months as a rebound from this project, he needs to come back quick or it's all over. Thanks for the comment and watching 🙏🙏
I just gave a skim of V2 and even this far after it's release, it still sounds incredibly incomplete. Not to mention it seems he's moved onto promoting this new album "Preacher Man". So it seems the Vultures era is over. Thanks for the comment and watching!
There's still a good amount from your recommendations that I still need to listen to, so I'm looking forward to that! Here's my favorites of the month: 1. Wintersun- "Time II" 2. Josh Garrels- "Seek Hi Seek Lo" 3.Dangermuffin- "Dangermuffin" 4. Zeal & Ardor- "GREIF" 5. Ray LaMontagne- "Long Way Home" 6. Future Birds- "Easy Company" 7. Kingcrow- "Hopium" 8. Tucker Zimmerman- "I Wonder If I'll Ever Come True" 9. Brooke Ligertwood- "INFINITY" 10. Pete Yorn- "The Hard Way"
I will have to add a bunch of these. I love seeing Josh Garrels and Brooke Ligertwood. I'm thinking of doing a video on the scene of Christian music and how much it has grown in quality because there is so many artists that don't get appreciate because they fall under the Christian umbrella. Thanks for the comment, the recommendations and watching!
You talking about what others have given the album on a website is hilarious and shows how much groupthink behavior you have. Think for yourself. The album is trash but don’t use others opinions to justify yours.
I question if you watched the whole thing but nonetheless I'll respond. I gave the album a worse score then both general consensus and critics. I'm not groupthinking when I gave my review and my own criticisms of the album. I like seeing what others think of the album but I always give my own score and my own reasons for said score. Detroit 2 was around the same score as this new one and I would give that album an 8 imo. I use it just to see how others are feeling on the project, but I never want to dictate my opinions off groupthinking. If you did watch the video in full I do appreciate it and I appreciate the time for the comment. All love
I've grown to really like DYSTI with the relisten, although some songs still don't stick like Zombies. This reissue tho with the added songs does really amplify the experience. Thanks for watching and the comment!
i think its simple theres no emotion anymore before coming up he had a lottt of emtion and also at the pick but after that he felt too comfortbale and ran out of emotion
Agreed, I think with each solo album that he has dropped, the albums have still be amazing quality but they have also become a lot more accessible as well. Hopefully this gets a lot more people to tune into the previous albums because he hasn't missed in my opinion.
Well said. Even I who liked Smile and Witness can’t defend this. We were all rooting for her comeback. When I’m Gone in 2021 showed a lot of potential for the next era, but she squandered it all. This is the lowest point she could go.
@HeryckMusic Hey thanks for the input! I'm looking into some editing programs for future videos (especially ones like this). It's a work in progress trying to find a good upload flow. But again thanks for the input. It also reminds me I have to do a best albums of July!
