I dn't get to se the live, but love this, thanks both. The fabric smuggling comment made me remember mum telling me that having got married during WW2 my dad who was in the Royal Navy came home with the fabric for her wedding dress wrapped around his body. Fabric use was very strictly controlled at that time.

thanks for this very useful video, I didn't realise there are so many free patterns available. I will definitely be checking them out, as I have seen there are some bag styles I already want to make. 😊It is useful to learn new techniques and where to buy accessories etc.

@@TheBagMakersSewCiety I don’t wear the high tops much it’s to much faff getting them on. I’d say stick the mid ones. I know Emma was saying she didn’t like how you can see your socks still and wanted to come up with something to sort that out

I (impulse) bought a piece of fabric over a year ago but I've been too scared to have a go at making a bag, but seeing your site has given me the push I needed and, as soon as I've found a pattern I'm going to start a bag! I made a Vicky may at one my sewcials I am so pleased with how it came out I think I showed it on my last Friday sews video I used the zipper tape and zipper pulls too xx
Great tips! I am so very guilty of not reading the pattern thoroughly. Love the idea of watching the video while reading it and making notes! There are often some real gems to be found in the videos. I don’t usually print out my pattern instructions and just read from my tablet but I am going to come up with a compromise to handle making notes both before and while sewing up the bag.
I will do a catch up the Annette is amazing I love it. The heidi came unstuck totally my fault for sewing while I had COVID 🤦🤦but I will cut out another and make it again xx
I have some of them ruler pads. They work great. I've even put the tiny bit out of the middle on the bottom of our marble coasters. I'm glad you enjoyed the quilt show. Did you manage to look at any embroidery stands for your mom?
Oh that's a great idea my coasters are all over the place lol. I didn't find any cross stitch for her but I got her a lovely diamond art suncatcher set 😊
Thanks for this, I really need a back pack or two. Our boys no longer live in the UK, one in Germany and one in Japan, would be such a useful item for bothe hubby and myself. will definitely be checking out these patterns .

Great tips! I always wash my woven fabrics and iron my seams. I also iron my fabric before cutting. I never thought to steam my finished bag though. I am guilty of not reading my pattern thoroughly. I skim it to see the material and hardware requirements and then head off. But I have started making notes on my printed patterns. And I now only print the pattern I intend to make now. Printer ink and paper are expensive and if you have 20+ patterns to print, it all adds up. That's great advice about buying what you need and not necessarily what you want or think you will need. I was thinking that today about upgrading my sewing machine. I have a domestic that sat in my storage for over 15 years and recently got back to it. While I love making bags, I am going to see if I still love it a year or so later, then look at a semi-industrial. I sew in my tiny living room, so no industrial for me. But just make bags that is suited to my machine and work on my skills with what I have.
I love the way you give extra tips instead of assuming we know. It makes a great video for us who are making this bag for the first time. Actually, you've given me great tips for any bag I make. I made sure to subscribe. Cheers!
