As much as I enjoyed the first 3 episodes, this one just didn't hit for me. There was about 7 1/2 minutes of actual story, the rest just sort of meandered, killing time (and a wookie). I'll never understand why Star Wars shows always seem to burn an episode just faffing about like this. The story beats that ARE in there are effective, there just weren't enough of them. I'd have given the episode another 10-15 minutes of runtime, and cut down on all the drawn-out "wandering in the woods" stuff. I'd have then invested that time in fleshing out those story elements, such as Osha's budding friendship with the Padawan girl and Mae's creeping doubts about her mission (both of those things sort of come out of nowhere). edit: After watching ep.5, I think I'd have put 4 & 5 together into a single 1h episode.
I actually really appreciate that this teaser trailer doesn't give a lot of information on what this show is about. I say this because that keeps the show when it comes out on Netflix more mysterious and surprising, especially considering that I've noticed certain movie trailers do the opposite, in that they give too much away on what the plot of a movie is, by showing more scenes then they probably should show (Examples: Crawl the 2019 gator movie, Pixels with Adam Sandler, Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle). I personally do believe that this trailer does a good balance between getting the audience invested for this series, but also not giving too much information away. Also, It will be interesting to see an entertainment version of Zeus where he is portrayed what he was like in the original Greek Mythology stories of him, which is to say, an unlikable, egotistical, self-centered jerk. I especially point this out because things like Disney's Hercules portray Zeus as a much more humble and likable character, when in reality he was anything but, regarding who he was in the original stories featuring him. Even though I could be wrong on this, this might actually be the very first portrayal of Zeus as an unlikable, egotistical character, as I don't know if there has been any prior portrayals of Zeus where he was shown in a negative light regarding any movies or shows that existed before this. But again, I could be wrong on that.
Best episode of the season so far, I'd say. We're seeing the inciting incident of the story, but only really from Osha's perspective, I suspect we'll see this event again later but from the perspective of other characters. Master Sol's cadence and line delivery works for me, but I could see how it could be off-putting. It could stem from the fact that the actor himself only recently learned to speak English (specifically to play this role). I grew up in Toronto, Canada, which had a significant 1st-generation-from-Asia population at the time so hearing someone talk like that doesn't seem unusual to me. Wookie Jedi aren't unheard of, but I do think this is the first time we've seen one in live action. The witch coven is fascinating, the Force is usually seen by the viewer through the lens of the Jedi/Sith dichotomy. It's fun to see a completely separate culture's view of it from time to time. Seems to me the coven strives for balance, as seen with the girls' two mothers: One is harsh, constricting and punitive (dark) and one is loving, empathetic and forgiving (light). I have my suspicions that the former could be the masked Sith later in the story. I didn't see her body on the pile. There's definitely something more going on with the fire, no way it started and spread so quickly. I guarantee you, the reactor-thing that exploded was tampered with/sabotaged by someone... My gut tells me there's a 3rd party at work here, trying to play the Jedi and the Witches against each other. The Witches are a bit paranoid and the Jedi are untrusting of non-Jedi force users, it wouldn't be hard at all for a hidden malefactor (a "Phantom Menace", if you will) to throw a wrench into the works. Who it could be will hopefully be revealed as the show goes on.
Yeah I found out that he didn't speak English after I watched this episode. Definitely makes it easier to move on from his pacing. And I absolutely agree that we will visit the fire again

You saw 38, but that is not a vault there. What you saw was the signage for the Lucky 38 Casino. That is the tall building that looks like the center part of a roulette wheel. The person that owns the Lucky 38 is Mr. House. He was in the meeting with all of the other companies as the owner of Rob-Co.
Well, there is a "vault" there though. Kind of. You know what I mean 🤫 Vault 21 is extremely close to Lucky 38. 11, 19, 22, and 34 is in the vicinity, with 11 by far being one of the worst in the whole franchise. I sure as hell would like to see, if not made a new serious side character, someone *DRESSED* up in Vera's outfit somewhere in the background. The fans will know who she is 😂 On a similar note, I find it hilarious that everyone missed "The Legion" appearing in the Hollywood shot earlier. It obviously wasn't "our" legion, but it was definitely an easteregg thrown our way.
I decided to take a break after watching the first season of Stranger Things to explore some other shows, like Fallout and The Last of Us, which were shorter series. When those shows were ending, I ran a poll on my Patreon to decide what to watch next. Checking out season 2 of Stranger Things was an option, but it didn't win this time. I find the Brotherhood of Steel to be the least interesting faction as well- show and game, lol. I feel like they made it super obvious that The Ghoul left Hank alive on purpose- as opposed to Maximus losing a fight to The Goul and the squire thinking he had done that on purpose. I mean, we just watched him clear an entire room of Brotherhood Knights in full power armor- in the dark. Hank's head has no helmet- and nobody was even looking. The Goul could have blown his head off before anyone knew he was there. I'm super excited about Season 2!
I think they're deliberately holding back on the brotherhood for now, to be further developed in future seasons. And I think season 2 is where Maximus' character will start to truly develop; ref elder wanting to branch off. Keep in mind Maximus has a really skewed understanding of what the brotherhood is *really* supposed to be like. "It's your duty to better this world" sure as hell ain't one of them, and I think he's in for one rude awakening. Unless they intend to tame them down. I hope not. Maximus' expressions are top notch (best of them all), but there is no real backstory to be told about him. Not that I can think of anyway. It's all going to be about development for him. Coops backstory is very deep, but development slow. Lucy is also developing, but her backstory isn't hers alone but one reflecting the vault complex.
LoL - the Mom reveal reaction you had was worth the price of admission. i think the hints dropped earlier in the ep before the past Daddy reveal was tuned perfectly - there'll be people who are still shocked by that reveal even with the foreshadowing, and even for those that predict it, you get to have that voice of "no, surely not" and sow doubt for a little bit. while i know we're getting a season 2, idk that i needed one, they answered all the big mysteries that were keeping me invested and the remaining ones, are those i'm less invested in personally.
Most I've seen guessed the mom when that scene started, but not the dad stuff based on earlier learned stuff. It's like watching Death Stranding; some players will have a "called it" moment towards the end (Vietnam scene), but just about everyone will still be completely clueless during the final two (or three incl the mini) reveal cutscenes when "everything" comes together after 50 hours of utter confusion. And even then, nobody, not a single soul, have been able to derive the third mystery as you need to get some obnoxiously hard to obtain lore and play/watch the game several times over to form a different narrative. Even without it, it's one hell of a ride, one hell of an experience (if you get it), and a highly rewarding ending. It's called Kafkaesque for a reason, and don't appeal to everyone.
What a finale. Best season of TV I've seen since "Andor", and probably hands-down the best videogame adaptation I've ever seen (and there have been some good ones lately). Twists, reveals, a big ol' battle, and just enough resolution while also leaving some big, juicy threads to follow up on next season. I figure we'll be seeing the same cast next season, and they've set up Max's storyline in S2 to be much more interesting. The Brotherhood is one of the more interesting factions in the games, their behavior really depends on who's in charge. Max might follow the creepy old priest guy, or maybe he'll off the old man and take charge himself. Lucy and Cooper have unfinished business with Hank, S2 will definitely need to follow up on that journey, and Norm being stranded in Vault 31 also needs a conclusion. Here's some game lore to add context to the finale. The experiments being proposed at the meeting of bigwigs are direct references to vaults you come across in the games. The Walt Disney-looking guy with the cigarette at the meeting is "Mr. House", and he took over Las Vegas, Nevada, after the war. This is the city we see at the end of the finale. It was renamed "New Vegas", and is the location for one of the best games in the series. Mr. House used sci-fi life support machines to stay alive over the centuries, and the game (which has multiple endings which depend on the player's decisions) either sees him retain control of the city or be killed off, and all of this takes place around a decade before the show. The in-game conversations you can have with Mr. House would suggest he didn't take the deal with Vault-Tek, so it's curious that Hank would be fleeing there of all places. And the line "War... War Never Changes" is to the Fallout setting what "To Boldly Go" is to Star Trek, or what "May the Force be With You" is to Star Wars. It's **the line.** My friend an I shouted "SHE SAID THE THING!!" simultaneously on our 1st watch!
Interesting, Mae's (child) eyes changed to black...like with Morgan Elsbeth in "Asokha", because of the Nightsisters. Also interesting to see a time when the use of The Force was more favored than the lightsaber. I quite appreciated this first promising breath of fresh air. Excellent reaction, thank you so much!

It's a mystery, the fact things don't make sense two episodes in IS THE POINT. My favorite thing about Star Wars is the worldbuilding, and how that fictional world resembles our own. And there's no shortage of stupidity IRL, is there, especially where religion and politics are concerned... The show is (at least in part) meant to shed light on how the Jedi Order became inept. They mixed religion and politics even without meaning to. A clumsy, barely-contained coverup would be the 1st step toward the bureaucratic/dogmatic/shortsighted "Jedi High Council" we see in the prequels/clone wars era. They first became policemen and bureaucrats, and within 100 years they're military commanders and politicians. I think this Osha/Mae story could be that covered-up event, the point of no return. I definitely want to see where this story goes, damn the weak acting and stilted dialog (I really do like Master Sol though). I agree that the acting and execution could be loads better, but I reserve judgement until the whole series has aired. Yes, I'm enjoying it so far, and I'm willing to give the show it's runtime before passing judgement on it. It's not "Andor" by any means, but it also isn't "Kenobi" as of yet. Like I said in my comment on the ep.1 video, this is a Kung-Fu movie wearing a Star Wars costume. Kung-Fu movies aren't known for their phenomenal acting, but they're loved for their overall messages and entertaining action/fight sequences. Just my perspective and two cents.
Outta curiosity, in regards to dialogue pacing - what do you think of dialogue in the other Star franchises - Trek (more tv than the Pine/Quinto movies) and Gate (tv more than movie) ?
Star Wars has always had stilted acting and wonky dialog, all the way back to 1977. Mark Hamill made jokes about it on talk-shows, and Harrison Ford famously said "You can WRITE this sh*t, George, but you can't SAY it". Wonky/hammy acting and dialog is just part of Star Wars. It's about the worldbuilding.
@@lisdalia_ Not even "Kenobi" or "Ashoka"? Really? Both were worse than "Acolyte" IMO. Stories that weren't worth telling, I think. Even though "Baylan" was an excellent character.
@@andyb1653 when i say other "stars" shows I was talking about Trek and Gate. I didn't watch much of Kenobi (maybe an ep or 2) but I did watch Mando which I was fine with and boba which was a mixed bag for me
The conclusion of the "Vault 4" storyline is one of my favorite moments in the series. Sometimes, **just sometimes,** the scary Blood-Cultists turn out to be legit, nice people. That's "Fallout" humor to-a-T (as is the severed heads sharing a kiss later on). The Father in the opening scene was wearing an "NCR Ranger" uniform. There's an easter egg buried there! The man playing him is one Erik Estrada. There was a network TV show, hugely popular in America and Canada, called "CHIPS" (6 seasons, late 70s/early 80s), in which Erik played a motorcycle-riding policeman called "Ponch". The role was apt, as he was also an actual cop IRL. The NCR Rangers are (or, **were,** anyway) the closest thing to California Highway Patrol that exists in the Fallout setting, so putting that man in that costume was a drunken salute in (and from) multiple directions.
I agree the acting was a bit stilted, and some scenes are a bit slow, but the story does have me intrigued. As for Master Sol's change of heart, consider this: This is a Jedi Master, looking into the eyes of a former student he has a personal attachment to. He can tell through the force that Osha isn't lying, so he believes her. Or perhaps Sol already knows Mae didn't die and is hiding this knowledge for some reason. He just doesn't know how Osha found out. A good Star Wars project will always try to blend other genres in, we're watching Kung-Fu Murder Mystery Star Wars this time. In that light, the stilted acting kinda-sorta works. Or at least, isn't out of place. The fight scene is fantastic, music is good, sets and costumes are great.

😂 it’s just feels like the ratio of humans to aliens is way higher than what it was. Like for every 5 humans on screen there was 1-2 aliens but as the movies and the technology progressed it has inverted and it now feels like there are 5 aliens to every 1-2 humans.
@@lisdalia_ As you mentioned yourself: It was a budget thing. There was ALWAYS supposed to be a ton of non-humans. They literally raided the props department to do the cantina scene in ep.4, thank "god" for all the forgotten creature-feature movies from the 50s and 60s. The famous "Mos Eisly Cantina" wouldn't even exist without 'em. The more aliens, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy the variety that we are seeing I just feel it is a little too skewed now. I mean I don't want an even 50/50 split cos in reality humans are probably a minority species, but having a few more humans around wouldn't go astray
i spent a lot of this ep trying to figure out the main character - like is it split personality (Jekyll & Hyde , when one goes to sleep, the other wakes up), is it a clone situation, identical twin, etc, so the pacing of the ep worked and let me have time to theorise about that.
I guessed "good twin/evil twin" pretty early on, but I agree there's something more going on. They're not gonna give us EVERYTHING in the first episode, are they. Definitely some Force shenanigans happening.
Glad you're enjoying the game. Unfortunately, I don't really enjoy "build mode" so I haven't played it since they added "no build mode" a while back. But I will certainly keep the idea in mind if I ever dive back into it
Bonus tip: if you are running away from storm to save stamina slide every few steps. Oh and thank you for the tips! Visual sound is so good for sneak attacks.
i do consider Maximus and the Brotherhood to be the weakest parts of the series. The mysteries of the Vault systems are the most intriguing parts of the series
I agree it's the weakest of the 3 (4) POV storylines, but I still empathize with him completely. He could be scoring bonus points for me, due to his representing the Brotherhood of Steel, which I find to be the most interesting faction in the entire setting (I've been a fan of the Fallout series since the first game in 1997). Still, there's plenty to empathize with, and a little empathy can go a long way. He's just as clueless as Lucy, just in different ways. He's just as ruthless as Cooper, just in different situations. His story is one of finding who he really is and what he really wants, which I find fascinating.
The ritual in Vault 4 isn't all THAT weird when you consider some of the messed-up "traditions" humanity has invented over the centuries IRL. They didn't kill, eat or r*pe anyone, at least. Don't pass judgement on Vault 4 until you have the whole story. Also: Take note, the finger Cooper re-attaches to his hand isn't his- it's Lucy's, from when he lopped it off back in episode 4. There's some hidden storytelling going on there, I think: His brief interaction with her helped him re-gain just the tiniest bit of his long-lost humanity, and she's now a literal, physical part of him.
I hope it is also a reminder for him.. as well as for her.. so in a sense he has gotten a finger that is alive & she has gotten one that prob came from one of the many ghouls in the other room.. In reg to level 12. He heard a noise & thought it was a creature that got free, that is why he grabbed a harpoon gun. If he suspected Lucy or a vault dweller, I doubt he would have grabbed the harpoon gun. I love the show. I think it is very well done. A few people arent so keen on it. Some worry the very end may screw up prev story lines (I wont spoil it here). I dont think so. Everything that has happened in the games - happened. This plays after all the games.. I am sure on purpose, so nothing needs to change. As far as the ghoul juice & ppl being upset over it. I say, ehy can it not exist in the West Coast but not back East? It stands to reason that in 200 yrs development was diff for either side& not many ppl probably travel that far or easily (apart from the Brotherhood). Anyways, again love the games, love the show. I enjoy your reviews.
@@BellaTrix0707 Keep in mind, a lot of the negative reviews are from notorious "ragebait" hatemonger channels who give damn near EVERYTHING a negative review, milking money off the "I hate woke" crowd (i.e. "Synthetic Man" and the like). Those channels are not to be taken seriously. The show is 99.9% lore-friendly as far as I can tell, the only inconsistencies I could spot were a couple minor details regarding Power Armor (e.g. you can ALWAYS exit the suit, even if it's powered down). Like you said, the Ghoul serum could be a regional thing, and the destruction of Shady Sands/the NCR laid low is completely plausible.

@@lisdalia_ They cleverly use shocking or repulsive imagery to hide details and clues. The puppy incinerator in ep.2 hid the fact Dr. Wilzig falsified his dog's records, and the over-the-top comedic violence in the "Battle of Vault 33" from ep.1 hid some interesting clues regarding the attackers (re-watch and see if you can spot 'em). There's even a clue about the chicken-f*cking snake oil guy that will pan out by the end of the show (no spoilers though). With Lucy's finger, you're too focused on the conversation (and the fact that this man is casually performing reconstructive surgery on himself) to notice the finger is WAY too not-rotten to be his own. These guys knew EXACTLY what they were doing, it's delicious!
Remember, Liz, that Maximus has grown up in a quasi-medieval technology cult since, like, age six. Eight, at most. It's a miracle the guy's as well-adjusted as he is. He's definitely a bit of a dumbarse, but he IS (mostly) doing his best I think.
Its taken me a few games to get into it. Part of it is the aethestic and story bits of the olympians was more my thing. But popping a nuka cola and mad maxing around is fun! The vehicle modding is very easy and it'll be so much fun to have a driver and a gunner! There are going to be a lot of shenagians!
