I fell in love with Olivia D'Abo in this film. She was the prettiest, sweetest girl I'd set eyes on. Watched how she'd grown up. Seeing her in ST:NG some time later was a pleasure. Still pretty and sweet.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine.
What I love most of this scene is the moment when the boy looks up is the "birth" of Conan. The rest of his life will be devoted to killing the bastard who killed his mother.
This is such a poignant line. Flesh is strong than steel. But what Thulsa Doom doesn't explicitly say, but demonstrates is that 'power' is stronger than flesh. Flesh controls steel, but power controls flesh. What Conan eventually realizes is that will is stronger than power.
Lol this is like the complete antithesis to "From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel".
Studio: John, it's a high-fantasy action film, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Just keep it fun! John Milius: If I die, I have to go before Crom, and he will ask me, "What is the riddle of making Conan the Barbarian?" If I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me. That's how we shoot this scene!
It’s by far the most impactful and inspiring movie to me it shaped my outlook on life as a young boy. The best of the 80s for sure . And Crom approves 👍
