Well there’s competitive play, which is the vast minority of the community, and casual play. We worry mostly about the power creep that makes purchasing the next set imperative because the cards are just… better.
This is like the lowest tier of content creation damn-near. Read an article while putting your own opinion on the matter and misleading people with a bad title. It's an egregious lack of substance that casts your purpose into question because you have marked yourself as unnecessary by conducting yourself in this way. Get a better hobby.
Couple points regarding your criticism/hate: First, if you haven’t noticed, every channel is covering this topic; and in general, EVERY channel highlights the article and provides their own insight. This isn’t unusual for reporting news. However, this content must be complete trash for some reason because the news hurt your feelings. Secondly, your comment is simply negative and toxic, and not at all constructive. I can promise you that WOTC will maximize their monetary gains with control of commander as a format. If you think having the RC, in control for the entirety of commander’s existence, losing control of commander to WOTC, isn’t going to change the game in favor of Hasbro’s financial benefit, you are new or just haven’t been paying attention. Cards with reprint equity like jeweled lotus and mana crypt being banned caused an uproar; these are chase cards and have been the flagship cards for products released this year. They sell packs. Especially LCI and CM packs. Do you think it’s a coincidence that the announcement wasn’t made until after “festival in a box,” containing collector boosters of cards featuring the lotus and crypt, and with a booster box of MB2 which contains lotus, was sold in mass? Do you think this information wasn’t leaked when you do an analysis of the price charts of these cards and more copies were sold at cheaper prices weeks ago? Also; the morning of the announcement, these cards were pulled from buy lists BEFORE the announcement was made? Come on man; the thumbnail isn’t even clickbait. WOTC is a business and by default opportunists. They found a way to take the helm of commander and have further control of the secondary market. Clickbait is “COMMANDER IS DEAD! “ or something along those lines. Not, “hostile takeover,” which is what happened behind closed doors. An opportunistic takeover. Thousands of people dumped their lotus and crypts in response to this announcement; now they’re frantically buying them back (and having their orders cancelled) because anyone with half a brain knows these cards will be unbanned. It’s the biggest thing to happen in the magic space since mtg30 destroyed the vintage secondary market or when chronicles sparked the creation of the RL.
Wizards has been in control and has owned the format since they began releasing commander product and creating cards exclusively for the format. If wizards hadnt have been in control, sol ring wouldve been banned, but since it is ubiquitous with the pre-con, wizards couldnt afford to have 1 card in every single precon on every single shelf be illegal. The idea that fans ever owned anything, that we as consumers owned any part of this commodity, is a naive and uninformed notion
@@leviathanops4524 100%, what's glaring obvious to you is meeting lots of resistance in thought from others. This debacle is is bring out "the best" in everyone ya? 😜 Follow the money, like you easily did and saying WotC was waiting for the moment to pounce is not a stretch.
3:35 when competing in a tournament nobody is going to ask you what the power level of your deck is, there all made to win the game as efficiently as possible.
@@Qbawllz right? That's was a silly example in the announcement. I totally agree. Perhaps they were trying to insert themselves in rule 0 for kitchen table. It a was bizarre statement which was why we posted it out.
This is more than a little incorrect, but the most egregious crime being that crap, click-bait, high school Power Point project lookin' thumbail outright LYING to people.
Welp, sorry for the doom and gloom, but reality isn’t concerned about your feelings. If you don’t see this an an opportunistic takeover with the evidence in front of your face, you would’ve probably acquitted OJ
@@MadMagicShow This ain't your first defensive reply, looks like. If so many people are saying that this video is wrong, as well as other creators/players (although, by indirect means), maybe it's not about his feelings bud. Keep seething.
What the clickbait is this? Hostile Takeover? No, that's just factually innaccurate. The RC was litrrally afraid for their safety and they personally handed it over to WotC because things got so out of hand beyond their control. This was NOT WotC forcing the reigns of power away from them for doing a bad job or for money.
Yea this guy is just being over dramatic about this whole thing. If Wizards wanted control over Commander they could have done that at anytime no questions asked. They had to do to the toxic people in this community. People like this RU-vidr who thinks everything is a conspiracy
why would you want a format to die? i can understand not liking a format and wanting more support of the main formats but to straight up want for it to die out is a bit much, i dislike standard but i dont want it to die out, people like it
@@lunatic-db6mp I was joking I just don’t like that commander has become the main format of mtg. It was never meant to be the main format, it is broken by design. On top of that I think it is just a watered down version of mtg. But you are right I don’t actually want it dead, people like it and that’s fine. I do however think that it is better for the entire game’s health (commander included) for commander to not be the main format anymore
This has became stupid, and mainly because of RU-vidrs and Reddit. If i was Wizards i would of done the same thing at the end of the day they are a business, and earning money is their top concern. But this toxic community and its tinfoil hat RU-vidrs caused this. Its never ok to threaten people especially over some cardboard. However now all these RU-vidrs are making videos crying more than a Karen at a Starbucks. Like about waiting to see how things go before running to make a doomsday video on how the world is over because of this evil company. But im guessing that if all of you owned Magic you would be ok with some group banned prized cards in your game.
Keep in mind it was the banns that got WotC to take over the format because it costs them money....NOT these supposed death threats. Olivia on the RC has already stated this was not what she wanted and is devastated. Totally fair if you agree "Safety" was the reason for the take over of "OWNERSHIP" of commander (WotC really jumped right out there with that didn't they?)...I do not believe Safety had jack shat to do with it. WotC is the benefactor of the RC content creators etc. they have immense leverage over them. All of this points to $$$ and everything else is a smokescreen. Inside of all of that, the hostile takeover may be better for the format...time will tell. - Mono
I believe you don’t really care you’re trying to spend your own conspiracy theories because you’re probably mad about the banned cards. Plus Wizards could have come in anytime and took over. Did they do it for money yes, and if I was them I would have too. The only card that should have been banned was Nadu the others were fine. But here we are now because people threw a Karen tantrum, and people like you made it worse
The tier system is generally for competitve scenes, and for when you're at a local with strangers. It's to streamline discussions about power levels to play by based on your strongest card(s). At a local level or when you're with friends, you can discuss and rule 0 to make exceptions to the tier system. I'd argue that the system will act more as a guideline in most casual settings and while be used as a concrete rule for more competitive events.
@@MadMagicShow funny enough, I was commenting and thinking about the idea of forming a tiered system for Commander about a week ago. RC's rash decision to outright ban several cards tanked their value and removed their ability to be used in any environment. Tiering cards would at least give cards a chance at several levels of play before banning becomes necessary. Dockside, Lotus, and Crypt were all fine in CEDH, but not so much in casual. RC completely ignoring CEDH to balance for casual was a god awful idea when CEDH has grown quite a bit since the inception of Commander.
This is patently false: The RC contacted WotC and asked them to take over Commander because they didn't have the resources to ensure their own safety and the safety of their families due to threats of violence from members of the Magic community. WotC has money, security, and legal teams. The RC is just five people. Stop spreading bullshit. It's this exact type of crap that got us into this situation. If you don't like that WotC took over Commander, start looking at the players around you and holding them to a higher standard. And if you hate-mongered or sent threats, this is your fucking fault.
@@MadMagicShow 1: The decision didn't have to be made unanimously. 2: You can both be devastated and not want to have something happen, bit still approve it because you don't feel like you have a choice. Get some evidence before you start throwing accusations around.
I've been preaching for well over a year: Those banned cards? Get one! Especially the Reserve List ones. Can anyone predict what Fastbond or Tolarian Academy will spike to if they're unbanned? Remember that Recurring Nightmare almost got put into MH3 before they remembered it was an RL card. What does the price of the game's best repeatable reanimator go to if it's unbanned? Then let's make a prediction: All non-RL cards that get unbanned will show up in a secret lair within 6 months of the announcement. I'm looking at Biorhythm, Coalition Victory, Gifts Ungiven, Primeval Titan and Sylvan Primordial.
I saw this coming a mile away. WOTC always disliked a non corporate entity with influence over their business. This is why they promoted the format as Commander instead of Elder Dragon Highlander. My guess is they adopt something close to Canadian Highlander point system to simplify the power level conversation. With the pesky rules committee out of the way we are going to see even more power creep believe it.
Everything gonna get unbanned for tier 4, I'd pick up some banned stuff. WotC used the ban hostility as an excuse, they were never gonna stand by while 3rd parties kill off their cash cow cards.
I’m focusing more on a possible entry point for the kitty. He’s still an amazing card, but because of his perceived interaction with dockside, we may get a deal.
I've always advocated for dissolving the ban list for Commander. Let people play with their cards. Rule 0 should be changed to "pod level" or something. Level 1: Precons/jank/beer & pretzels magic. Level 2: Upgraded precons/themed/mildly tuned decks. Level 3: Tuned decks on the competitive side, we're playing to win here. Level 4: cEDH. Done, problems solved.
Sometimes being a mtg brokie is the right way to play this game. F in the chat for anyone who bought any of these cards near their All Time Highs as they may never see those prices again.
Cards are def cheap. If you want to buy, this is the time to do it. But as you said... might be a while at this level. I love watching auctions like this end.
Thanks for watching. This vid not many views yet, the previous BL one lots watched. I'ma keep making these though. It's the true gauge of what people are willing to pay. I missed recording a Kid Icarus LP UL BL tonight and it sold for just over 10k. Card was beautiful...only 10k. Back up a year that sells for 17.
That lotus front is a beauty, I think the play marks on the back are aok by me - shows it is authentic and has been used. No damage or ink or scratches, just normal wear and tear.
Cool video -- Similar to tears of valakut, "Combust" - 2mana instant burn, cant be countered and deals 5 damage to white or blue creature. Kinda one of my favorite cheap removals
When I started Magic $10 dual lands and getting tanked by Serra Angels was the norm. I remember pulling an Eron the Relentess from a pack and feeling like an absolute boss. Those were the days.
My brother and i played Magic during Alpha Beta 1st and 2nd edition, when arabian nights came out, i had played so much i was so bored with the game so i stopped playin. He wrote a book on how to play the game with some friends, and helped make the game popular. He created something called Matt's Thumper Deck, which was how to play goblins and red properly, and he created the infinite moves with time warp which really pissed me off, and made me storm off!! He got to meet a lot of the artists and have some cards signed, he eventually sold them many years ago to pay off his college tuition. We still have BOXES of them at our parents house deep in the closets! :) P.S. I always loved playing green and they would destroy me so fast before i could get any creatures out, i LOVED my Gaea's Liege soooo much! :)
I'm waiting on some lower prices for Urza's Saga reserve list land to complete a playset. I think we get those lower prices on a greater SP500 meltdown. MTG and Pokemon seem to have fast bounce backs from the lows but it's going to be interesting to see if we can see some market repair after 2026.
You "get it". You must'a listened to my final thoughts/ramblings, and suspect the same thing. It just really feels like this is a really good spot IF one is in the place to buy cards r/n. I'm looking at as much as I can. Great time to open the wallet if one does it smartly
Totally fair! I disagree with shady tactics but there are many who would agree with you. The only caveat is that proxy's are not allowed to be listed on eBay, but many do do that.
I have to admit I think you're wrong here. They're not fraudulent cards perse, as it is very clearly listed as proxies. This is just a case of people not reading properly. Yeah sure it's a bit scummy, but the listing is clear enough. It's ebay, buyers need to actually pay attention to this sort of thing. It really is on the person paying the premium. And honestly, $6k for 6 pieces of power nine in that condition? There's no way. Nothing about the post looks like legitimate cards and everything screams proxy/fake.
So you have a defendable position for sure. I would say I was wrong if this guy was just not English speaking and authentically typed what they thought they needed to to make the auction clear. That I personally didn't feel it was clear, could, ya know, be chalked up to a personal problem. However, if they were trying to do the bare minimum to tell the truth and specifically omitted the proxy language from the title and used non-english to obscure the truth, then eF them. True, peeps can do what they want...but at Mad Magic we say "do honest business" not "technically, not against the rules business." If it's the latter then we gonna fecklessly rage in a vid and call them out 😂. TYSM for commenting though. We gonna keep posting high $$$ legit and scammy auctions as we see them. We know many peeps will not be as polite as you were. All good though! We know what we are signing up for.
