At what point do you recommend authors to create the 2nd book after the first one. I’m about 3 wks after my first but haven’t recouped all my initial funds so I don’t know when to jumo in for the 2nd? Please advise
How can you not mention Grammarly? It blows quetext out of the waters when it comes tone suggestions, correctness, plagiarism check, full-sentence rewrites, vocabulary enhancement, grammar, spelling check, sentence structure and context, and even genre-specific writing style, etc. There's a reason more than 30 million people, mainly professionals use it.
Dane, with regards to adding lead magnets to your book, there’s a point in the Amazon guidelines which says “one should put any link to request for customer’s details (email address etc…) As it stands, my thought about is is that we can’t add lead magnets in our books and I hope I am wrong. Can you please throw some light on it so we understand. I would really appreciate it🙏🏽
Just so you know, your link for "paystopublish" is not working correctly. It says it is not a secure link so just letting you know it needs a little TLC. Thanks for the great formatting info. I used to format books for Kindle for a publisher 15 years ago. But, of course, I've forgotten everything and having to start all over. (this time for me! LOL)
Hi Dane, When filling the Title and Subtitle do we have to enter the "colon (:) punctuation mark" after the Title of our book? Or will it be added automatically once the book is published? Please check the below example. I'm talking about the colon after the Title (the word beginners). New Diabetic Cookbook for Beginners: Easy, Tasty & Low-Carb Recipes for the Whole Year Also is it ok to add both Title and Subtitle in the Title box together? (I mean without adding a subtitle) Thank you.
KDP Select is a trap. Amazon get exclusive rights for 90 days. Page reads pay 10% of net (after royalties). I'm in the process of taking all my books off KDP Select and going wide. I'm getting hits on my website, I'm getting sales, I don't need it.
Hi, I got an email from bookbite: "To have your book submission approved by us, please send us a link to your amazon reviewer profile." So, where can I find this link?
I appreciate your producing this video. As a person who has been a disc jockey and a professional musician for 23 plus years (I'm now 75), when I hear others presentations I will recommend to, at times, just sit back and watch your own show; listen to the speed of your speaking and notice if you are speaking so fast that you are running your words together. I appreciate your time. When one speaks so fast, it also affects the listeners to be a little more on edge and nervy. Anyway, good job my friend.
I signup for the free Bookbite trial, and I guess it works, but there are on a few audiobooks that are ever listed. Is it different if you sign up and pay?
Hello Dane, I am sorry the question is not related to this video. Yet I thought you could share your opinion on this. I found out that the word "mediterranean" has been trademarked under class 16 (which is related to books and print on demand products) in UK trademark office. We all know that UK is the second largest market in kdp space. Since only the word mediterranean is trademarked, can we make a book named "Mediterranean Diet for Beginners" or "Mediterranean Recipes Cookbook"? "Mediterranean Diet" is a huge niche with high demand for very long time. How did those top selling books survived then? Aren't we allowed to use only the exact trademarked word (mediterranean)? Or can we use the other variants of that keyword? I have found several other keywords with the same issue. How these trademark laws work in kdp space? Thank you :)
Thank you. I wasn't even aware MS Word could be used to ready a book for publication, particularly on Kindle. I was under the assumption you needed a special program to upload onto Kindle. You've simplified the process for me. Thanks again.
I destroyed the whole world in my last novel and all of humanity. Now it’s ever more difficult. The artificial people here now, acting really strange, like NPC Charakters in a videogame. How can I fix that?
@daneMcBeth thank you for this content. Very helpful! what software did you use to record this video switching between your camera and screen? Thank you
Even with the walk-thru, i hit a couple of problems. The main issue was with Amazon, you have to send bookbite a link to your review profile. Amazon doesn't make it share friendly . Took me four links and six replies to bookbite, but it got done.
Is it correct that: "Promo Codes are only available to Rights Holders of exclusively published audiobooks and Producers who accept projects under Royalty Share terms". If so, if you're publishing through ACX for Audible but also taking your audiobook elsewhere, this is redundant...?
I suggest you look at the commercial use of fonts you recommended, as I would assume you are showing how to format a Kindle ebook, then it will be commercial use. Garamond is owned by Adobe, Arial by Microsoft. If you head to font 1001 and highlight commercial fonts you will have access to hundreds of commercial fonts without the potential of being caught in a copyright battle. PS, the square text you mentioned is called justified, the text which has jagged edges to the right is called range right or ragged right and the same goes to the left. These are printing terms. Hope this helps.
"I followed the guide provided by KDP to upload my manuscript to Book Shelf, but it would not stick and was rejected within minutes. I would love to get some help and see if I can get it uploaded successfully. However, I am confused because I saw someone else on a tutorial using a completely different method. KDP's formatting guide instructs to only have a page break between the HEADING of the first chapter. For the rest of the book, I reformatted everything using the measurements provided by KDP. I highlighted everything except for the text before the first chapter, held shift and the "page down" key, and then applied the formatting. However, it didn't work. I am not sure how others are uploading using different methods when I followed the specifications provided by KDP and it failed to upload." I
I haven't been paid my April royalty even after updating my account so many times. I have received payment twice from this account before….what can I do?
Hello, I want to express my gratitude for your content. However, I need to share my recent experience with BookBite in the hope of preventing others from encountering similar issues. Intrigued by the concept of BookBite, I decided to sign up for their service. After attempting to register for the free trial and entering all my information, including my credit card details, I encountered a server error message. Initially, I assumed the registration hadn't gone through. To my surprise, I later received a welcome email from BookBite confirming the start of my 14-day free trial. Upon trying to access my account, I faced another hurdle. Despite using the same email I provided during registration, the system claimed my credentials were not recognized. This discrepancy between the confirmation email and the inability to log in raised concerns about potential charges to my credit card once the trial period expired, especially since I couldn't access the website to manage my account. Unfortunately, my attempts to reach out to BookBite's support via chat only added to my frustration. Their response suggested no issues on their end, yet I remained unable to access my account. This lack of communication, coupled with the inability to find a contact number, leaves me wary of engaging further with BookBite. I feel it's important to caution others about the potential risks associated with this platform. Buyer beware.
