Great content! I subscribed and a rookie referee, but a question.....if I'm AR1 and am down at the goal line signalling a corner, and now there are subs, I'm not really going to be able to manage the substitutions unless I hit a 50 yard dash up field when the CR has already acknowledged the substitution. So I guess my question is, this isn't always the case - AR1 managing, right?
i have a questionnnn, if i have free kick do i have to wait for ref to whistle? another example if my teams scores can we restart the game without the whistle? I saw a soccer game yesterday and the girls didnt wait for the ref whistle to do any of the example mentioned
I’m a ref and I only whistle after a free kick if there is a wall that has to be put in place. I think it’s mandatory to wait for the whistle with a match restart.
Is they clearly score and it’s easy to see that the they scored don’t blow. If the ball fully crosses the goal line and then bounces back out or something then they will indicate it with the whistle bc it was harder to see

I use almost exactly the same things, except for an organizer and the RefSix app for match reports and match events. Would recommend those instead of Tupperware and paper.
@@73drew It's tradition as they're the 'visitors' to the ground. However, an alternative method is saying 'heads is home team, tails is away team' or vice versa and then tossing the coin. Personally, I always do the Away Team as that's what I was taught but it's up to you :)
@@dan_whalethen - interesting. Good discussion. There is nothing in the LOTG that states who is given the call. "Because that's what we do" doesn't convince me that it should be that way. I know a lot of referees (in fact, most local referees) give the call to the Away team. My thinkings is, 'home team advantage' should give the call to the Home team... End of the day, it should not be a major thing but it is certainly good for discussion. I had an Assessor recently who told me off for giving the call to the Home team. His only justification for giving the call to the Away team was "because that's what we do" - not convincing enough for me!
Always a great standard on this channel! I'm a young referee in England and have just started a new channel where I'm going to post a load of refereeing content with a various range of topics. Keep up the excellent standard of upload Ashley !
Good advise here, about who should manage the subs (who is closer). However, I would caution that, especially for assessment purposes, AR1 should always also move to the halfway line and help manage the substitution(s). As per page 186 of the IFAB Laws of the Game, "If there is no fourth official, the AR moves to the halfway line with the substitutions procedure". My advice is to get into this habit early and whenever you are appointed as AR1, always help manage the subs, unless the referee stops you (which they shouldn't). Also great point that i would like to echo and emphasize - as referees, ALWAYS WAIT for AR1 to get back into position before restarting.
I am also a referee, from the US. My kit bag items are similar to you. Every referee I've worked with has something similar, everyone is different when it comes what to pack. What us your opinion on using a backpack instead of a duffel bag?
You should have black shoes, never wear bright cleats. The ref does not need to add more attention to themselves by wearing red cleats and appearing unprofessional.
Great observation Colin. That specific point is covered in my Match Day Attire video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HjbKKhwM-1c.html The point here is that for families of young referees officiating at the youngest levels, it is NOT practical to take on the additional expense. For those of us who are in it for the long haul, I agree with you 100%.
