Almost Free Bass helps you get the most out of your existing gear for free.. or almost free. We focus on how to use things you probably have lying around to get professional results for bass guitar, live sound, and the recording studio.
Along the way, we like to focus on the players and gear that has influenced us the most so we can share the joy we have for music with everyone.
I absolutely agree on your conclusion! I have an Aria Pro II RSB Standard from '83 which was about the cheapest bass back then, got it for less than 200 buck a couple of years ago. I actually wanted a cheap but well-made P-bass variant to put flats on. It's close to a Fender P construction-wise, but the pickup is closer to the bridge, almost in the StingRay position. If you pluck it closer to the neck, it can give you those Motown sounds. But if you pluck it closer to the bridge, it really sounds like Joe Dart! Now I just replaced the pickup. The original one was a very hot ceramic one, very loud but not very clear, and muddy/boomy with the tone down. The new one is an AlNiCo one, slightly hotter than vintage, and now it sounds much more balanced, and both more like a traditional Precision and the Vulfpeck sound, depending on how you play it.
Woah thanks for capturing this crazy performance! I love this live performance so much with the breakdown. I saw the same tour and just keep coming back to live performances of it. They're all top notch
May I point out that people who have been playing acoustic guitars can pull out many different tones from that instrument by plucking, strumming and picking and dampening the strings at different spots of the instrument. And they have been doing so for millennia.
I'll just stick with my mint green Sterling lol...this one seems like a complete rip off for the price...I could just solder mine, sand it down (ugh) and remove all knobs except the damn volume and have one identical in sound to this p.o.s. lol....wtf....plus Jack seems like a douchebag (Joe is obviously the only reason people listen to Vulpeck)
Not for nothing, but this same approach can be said for any other bass and how you play it..this isn’t really news….having said that, I think the bass should still have a tone control for even more options but I do like the bass and this video..
Great sounding bass, but you never really got that properly thick tone, likely because you never played right over the poles on the pickup, where the sound would be loudest. Shame.
Well see here's the thing: the Joe Dart Signature Musicman bass is not a cheap instrument($2500 for the current model, probably only a bit less for the original natural finish). If you have $2500 to spend on a bass, you can not only probably find a bass that can replicate the sound, as well as have other pickups so you can't play by the neck and not ruin the tone, active eq, et al. If you gonna procure a Joe Dart bass, just play it like a Joe Dart bass.
My ex-girlfriend had two cats with me: Jerry and Lily. I didn't really want cats, but I was willing to accept them. She used to joke that Jerry was 'her cat' and that Lily was mine. Lily was a bit of a runt and a troublemaker and had a tendency to drive me a bit crazy. One day, Lily began shrieking and had a sudden limp. We freaked out and took her straight to the emergency vet. Apparently she had a blood clot, which cut off circulation to her leg (hence the limp). The vet said that the prognosis was exceedingly negative and they'd have to put her down to put her out of her misery. We both cried as we said our final goodbye to a heavily sedated Lily, wrapped in a blanket, holding her little paw. These lyrics really hit me in a way that was probably not intended. "Lily's a punk. She don't give a funk. She don't make a scene, she just d oes what she wants. And speaking of which, I'm catching her bug and it's making me sick because I've fallen in love." Anyway - thanks for the lovely song! It really moved me emotionally. :)
