Some kids have natural talents for wrestling. Some kids have great passion for wrestling. When you get kids with both attributes, you end up with David Taylors.
Darrion Caldwell was a true freshman in this match. Came jn unseeded and knocked off No 9 and No 8 seed to get to No 1 Lang. Guy could wrestle with some serious funk and was a blast to watch.
BM very well might've been stuck @1:58, how can that overweight ref not be down there seeing that... & how is the announcer going to pronounce his name "sch-laugh-ter", like he's not aware that this is one of the biggest HS matches in the history of the sport & how to pronounce the participants names, js
@@rickcimino5483 For the first ever 4 time NJ State Champ? That same year Darrion Caldwell, Zach Rey, Frank Molinaro and Jordan Burroughs were NJ State Champions, not 4 times like Grey. Each one of them went on to be National Champions and Burroughs became arguably the greatest American wrestler of all time...so yeah...a nothing burger.
This 2006 NJ champion class had four wrestlers (Darrion Caldwell, Frank Molinaro, Zack Rey, and Jordan Burroughs) that went on to win an NCAA championship. And Burroughs went on to become a freestyle legend afterwards. It’s why I tell people that despite its small size, NJ is pound for pound the toughest wrestling state.
Johnny Thompson had a unique combination of power and slickness. Most wrestlers are one or the other but he could flow from each one where the match needed.
Think of Bubba Jenkins career: 1- this match 2- takes out the Magic Man 3- beats Frank Molinaro when Bubba moved on to MMA and Frank is training hard freestlye 4- avenges loss to Chris Wade and so on.
Let's not forget now magic man was a freshman Bubba was a senior that took a year off so Bubba was like 24 vs a 18 year old not saying Bubba didn't deserve it but Bubba college career vs david no comparison Bubba was a good college wrestler not a great wrestler big difference when you win best college wrestler of all the college wrestler you can be labeled one of the greats Bubba not in that category he could have been I think if he had cael coaching him Bubba didn't attack I think if he was more offensive then a counter wrestler he would have won more nattys defiantly had potential he was one of my favorite but he made me mad a lot not attacking lost some close matches because he just didn't think offense
I thought there would be more space between wrestlers during drills. Surprised no one has had an ACL torn from a teammate crashing into their knees from behind.
They are getting paid to do this but that isn't the most important motivation. It a scholarship so it's like parts of professional combat sports sponsored buy educational institutions. Practice is important......
Everytime i watch Besik, I am in complete awe of how powerful he is. He was truly something special. It honestly hurts so much that he's gone. I have nothing but prayers for his wife and his children, and his family. Rest in Peace Russian Champion. God be with you🥇
Watched him wrestle for national championships 3 different times.........twice against Jared Lawrence and once against Aaron Holker. His speed, flexibility, and power were all exceptional. Thanks for posting.
