My channel is all about growing (although mostly peppers). Each grow season I share how I do things from seed to harvest. This includes successes and failures and what I learn along the way. I experiment with many different ways to grow, but tend to lean toward hydroponic methods, circulating and non-circulating (Kratky method). I also share designs and tips on how to build easy diy systems. Through the latter half each season I do taste tests/pod reviews of peppers that I grew that year.

Sir,I find your videos very useful and practical. I'm in Ghana in West Africa. I really want to try a simple hydroponics out here. Can you please if feasible send me a few grams of masterblend, calcium nitrate and Epsom salt. It would go along way. Thanks. Mahama Abdul -Basit
Very odd results there with the scotch bonnets mate. Yours are a bit further ahead of mine, but will check what I get with mine once they grow through. The bonnets were isolated, but I have only been isolating those specific ones for about 3 years, so most likely some regression from previous crossing. I would have assumed the original seeds I received before I started isolating were stable/isolated, but possibly not. Regardless, be interesting to see what they ripen to! Another good update Peter, your season has got off to a great start. Been pretty slow over this side of the world. The weather is finally starting to improve, so looking forward to some growth spurts!
So good to hear from you! I hope you have a great season this year. I just picked the first ripe pod. Each of them have one that has turned red. I bit the tip off of one. It has a very pleasant sweet flavor upfront, followed by a stinging heat on the tongue. I like it. I think I can use these for a lot of purposes this year. I just took another bite. Same experience, sweet flavor upfront, followed with a pretty intense stinging burn on tip of the tongue. Between the initial flavor and the burn, it has hints of a Baccatum flavor, but it’s hotter than any Baccatum. It’s not nearly as hot as a scotch bonnet would be. It’s a manageable heat, but nice. I really like it.
Looking great (as always hehe)! Your plants are probably almost twice the size of most of mine. I got one of those 4 bucket AutoPot systems. Gonna hook it up this coming weekend. Psyched to so how they work out. Those weirdly shaped Scotch Bonnets look kind of funky! Will be interesting to see then further in to the season.
Thank you. I got an early start this year. I hope you love the autopot system as much as I do. I think they’re great. I hope you have an awesome season.
The grommet is exactly what I'm looking for, thank you. I want to do several buckets on one pump, and have a grommet go down to a second water resovoir to fill it back up. The grommet was the single piece i couldn't figure out.
Yeah 2 nights ago I had to move 28 plants indoors because of the cold overnight temps. My plants are smaller than normal this season but they are starting to grow and today's high will be 80°F so that should help.
Everything looks amazing Peter, look at these early peppers. I think the ring of fire is mixed up, it should be mich smalled, more like the white thai size or smaller
Almost stopped growing the superhots except for one plant this year. Just got burned out no pun intended. Growing a wide variety of mild and sweet peppers now. Lots to explore.
Early on in my growing, I grew almost all superhots. But quickly realized there’s only so much you can do with them: I grow a variety too, more versatility.
Thanks, Khang! This is all, except a couple still in aerogarden. I’ve been cutting back, always end up with more than I can use. I hope you are doing well.
You can do either or. I’ve done both, currently just adding slow release to the potting mix, and using water, just easier. Both methods work fine though.
If there are affected leaves on the tops, I would remove them. This will take out a large number of mites instantly, and those leaves will never recover anyway.
Hi Peter. Do you still grow the PI 439452 Creme? Semillas La Palma haven't listed it for some time now but the following may be of interest: Today I noticed an online shop with seeds for 'Aji LEILLO' - which is a similarly shaped and coloured C. chinense pod, with a variable heat of 20,000-150,00 SHU's. Says it was possibly used to make chilli cocoa by the Mayans (so more northerly than Peru) and has an "exceptional aroma", is very rare, the plant is easy to grow and produces "countless fruits". A pity but the suppliers called 'Doom Rabbit Seeds' only ship within Germany and to Switzerland & Austria at the moment but has anyone else out there heard of or grown 'Aji Leillo'?
I usually do two a few days apart. Recently, I’ve switched over to just dusting dry powder on the leaves and around the plant as a preventative. You can get the dusters on Amazon cheap, they are advertised for use with diatomaceous earth.
Question: Should someone get a second Aerogarden or the big pot farm for strawberries? Could the big one do potatoes? It looks crazy huge to empty every 2 weeks, which I do. Just use one fertilizer and replace all the water every 2 weeks with a cleaning. You don't need +/- that way. It starts new every cleaning.
I haven’t tried growing strawberries or potatoes hydroponically. Your method of changing out the water and nutrients every couple of weeks is good. I’m usually too lazy to do that often with mine, but I think it’s ideal for the plants.
@@pepperdactyl I'm lazy too. It usually goes to the 3 week mark before I force myself to do it, but it means you start with new water and nutrients and not an imbalanced concoction. When I'm late, however, I notice some minor algae starts on the edges of the container, right on queue, so the Aero nutes every 2 weeks is anti-fungal. It is the secret sauce. I couldn't get cheapie straw seeds, until some cheap strawberries appeared in the store. I got a cheap plant instead. I also put an eyeing potato in a dirt bag. It's a monster of growth! Hope there are potatoes at the end. One could always put the dirt bag inside under a grow lamp in winter. Easier. I guess same for a strawberry plant. Oh, the huge hydro farm used a LOT of store nutes and I thought it would wind up being more expensive because of that so I just got a second half-Aero for more dill/lettuce/pea shoots. Why not grow soil plants inside in winter with a lamp? I guess this is the time I wish the balcony could be legally enclosed as a solarium.
For most seeds, I don’t think it hurts. Some are sensitive to it. What I do now is pinch off a small piece of the sponge and place that in the hole over the seeds. This blocks light and helps keep some humidity in. I let the lights operate on schedule. When sprouts emerge, they have it available.
@@pepperdactyl I have some scotch bonnet seed just getting to start - how long do they typically take and do you use a heat mat? My garage is typically over 80 F.
I wouldn't advise using it without the hole. If you accidentally overfill, there's not an easy way to get the water back out. It's possible the water level indicator could get stuck, or something could happen to falsely indicate the water level. I wouldn't rely on that. Having the hole there also allows some air to get in which helps the roots. Hope this helps.
With rocotos, it helps to soak the seeds over night, and use a humidity dome after planting. Can just be a small clear cup sitting on top. If seeds are in a cup, a small ziplock bag over the cup. The fresher the seeds the better. It might take 8 or 9 days.
As soon as I watched the part with the close up view, I purchased some on amazon right away. Been struggling with these stupid things destroying fruit trees for years.
Hi Peter, always enjoy your videos. I'm considering getting the LetPot Senior. I believe its light has fairly low PAR output. Have you had any luck growing peppers in that system? What is your opinion of the unit after you had the opportunity to use it long-term? Would appreciate your thoughts. Daniel
Sorry for the late reply. I haven’t grown peppers in mine yet. I had to terminate the basil, cause were so massive they filled the entire container. I’ve cleaned it up, but haven’t started seeds yet. I really do like automode. It works great.
Great video, thx. I was looking at these vs Grobucket setup ... Can you advise which system actually holds more H2o in the reservoir for extended time between refilling ? Thx
Thanks for watching. I haven't measured the volumes between systems. But from looking at how much it takes to fill them, they're roughly about the same.
Hi Peter, i hooe youn read this, I made your low pressure aeroponic system and I'm having some concerns with drooping leaves. Im wondering what is your watering schedule for this system? Thanks in advance !!
Thanks for your question. You could start seeds/seedlings with a wicking system, but you might want to top water initially until some longer roots are developed. Hope this helps.
