2023 Pepper Grow Update 03/29/23
This video starts off my 2023 pepper growing season, showing my six Aji Largo Rocoto peppers growing on the autopot coco mat system in the 4x2 tray, fed with the autopot easy2go valve, using an AutoPot 12-gallon reservoir. The way the coco mat works, is it wicks up nutrient water through capillary action, which is drawn up through the fabric pot, into the growing medium.

I'm not growing many peppers this year. I have a few started in my AeroGarden Sprout, that are starting to come up.

Lights I used in the video:
Mars Hydro TS1000 - amzn.to/3M2lACS
ViparSpectra XS1500 - amzn.to/3JNjXpK
Light stand - amzn.to/3JU00gT
Nutrients - amzn.to/42TUIuL

Thanks for the short update. Nice to see you're still around 😄The autopot system looks as nice as last year. I'm starting my plants in coco coir, perlite and vermiculite this year, and beside me forgetting it has *no* nutrients at all it is looking quite good I must say.

That’s awesome. Coco coir is great. I hope you have much success with your plants.

Those big pots with them little plants are going to make it really easy to overwater.

It's possibly the contrary with this setup, will have to run it a while and see.

Thank you for your update was kind of curious where you are now. Having more suc6 with tomatos but stil try to get some peppers to grow here are temps now to lo for outside groing, having some bad luck with my 1st real Grow lite is failing after 6 months it did by it from Ali-express 😢

Sorry to hear about your grow light. They have come down a lot in price. The cheap ones are ok I think. When you start paying mega bucks for the lights with the 'top bin' diodes, blah, blah, etc..., the extra money spent has diminishing returns.

Wow, great setup. BTW, can you recommend a tasty super-hot pepper that will be happy in a 6" container? Have a few nice mild ornamentals, but not sure what to get for when I want to abuse myself. 😋
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl Год назад
Most any of them should work. In a small container, they will fruit early, but have fewer pods. You'll have to stay on top of feeding/watering. I would recommend any of the 7-Pots. You can't go wrong there.

Do you leave the PPFD above the peppers canopy at 300 throughout its' entire growth cycle or do you increase PPFD upwards once the plants grow larger? Appreciate it if you could explain the process.
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl Год назад
For indoors, I'll probably gradually increase to around 400 for 18 hours a day.

I really like that wicking system. Are the coco mats Autopot brand?
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl Год назад
Yes, it is their brand. For the 4x2 tray, you would need two of these, www.autopot-usa.com/all-products/cocomats/cocomats-large-23-x-20/ and this root control sheet. www.autopot-usa.com/all-products/replacement-discs-for-kits/root-control-sheet-46-x-20/

300 PPFD on your lights, but for how long 12 hrs? Whats your DLI come out to?? I just put my peppers under an LED Light and the are around 350 ppfd with about 15DLI that i get in 13hrs. All new to me, and my seedlings don't even have their true leaves yet (about 2 weeks old). I don't know why that near the end of the light cycle they start to close up though.
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl Год назад
I'm running the lights 16 hours now, puts the DLI around 17. Mature peppers need a bit more, around 23-25 min. I'll gradually bump them up.

Hello?.Can you compare the led panel that you are using in this video in light efficiency between the cxb 3590 led or the citizen clu48?.Thanks.

@pepperdactyl Год назад
In the video I'm using a Mars Hydro TS1000 and Viparspectra XS1500. I think they use the Samsung LM301b diodes. You can do the research, I'm not really sure how they compare to the diodes you're talking about.

@@pepperdactyl Do you prefer the Mars vs Vipar? Or about the same?
