Thank you SEW much for this overview. I found the information on the godets and how you placed your hooks and eyes extremely helpful. Just a note for anyone else who might be coming here for information: I decided to begin my Elizabethian wardrobe with this type of jacket and found the RH pattern did not work for me either for several reasons. (I am 5"4 and weigh 113 pounds which I think would be considered a smaller size.) There was one other pattern I tried that also did not work, before I also settled on the Tudor Tailor.
Hello to the other Lyssa from the original Lyssa! So nice to finally have a face for you. Was a bit confused because I knew I wasn't camping with anyone there. Very nice to see the rest of the event I missed since I didn't try to be everywhere and do everything this time which helped to avoid the usual heat exhaustion collapse.

I have never packed for a Pennsic (right now I'm contemplating Gulf Wars for next year) however a lot of your tips are excellent. But keep your re-enacting gear organized before the event, use your list, and there is far less chance that something important will be forgotten. In CW, I use a wooden ammunition box that is three by three to store boots, sox, ammunition, caps, mess gear, my neckerchiefs, bosun whistle's, gun cleaning apparatus, and sewing kit. It does not house the cleaning rags, those are in another small box. In the house, all garb is kept on the clothing rack, and leather gear whether CW or medieval is in the clothing bag. Boots are in the Medieval Box (I may have to change that in the future) along with my cup, etc.
After each event I clean clothing and put it in clothing bags on my clothes rack. Leather goods like belts and pouches go in the bottom of the bag. This way, when I'm packing I can grab the bag and go. If you have a big collection of garb, and it sounds like some of you have much more than I, I only started with the SCA a couple of years ago, get the long canvas clothing bags, with small windows added, write on a card and put it in the window for exactly what is in the bag. Have designated bags for particular outfits, to make it more convenient.
I I camp with a big unit, and they bring the tents and so forth, but we all pitch in to put them up, and carry sleeping gear in, and set up the interior of the tents and so forth. In some ways it is a hassle because sometimes we're putting up seven tents, but in some ways it is really good, because the last day we are at an event, usually the Sunday, we'll pack up Sunday morning. All our personal stuff and garb goes to our cars, tents are taken down and so forth. Civil War re-enacting is a little different, because we usually hold a battle the Sunday that starts at 2 and we stay until after the battle, but with everything broken down, after the battle we can leave.
I do Civil War Re-enacting and there my unit brings a complete medbox, with all kinds of bandages, over the counter meds for every ailment you can think of, a thermometer, and blood pressure cuff. If you have a bunch of people you know your camping with, this can be a really great aid. Just make sure the one who takes on the Med box is going to be there!
A lovely look! That headdress is fantastic! Not particularly summery, but I've started a shawl for a girlfriend with a big celebration coming up in the early part of next year.
Great hairstyle to keep hair out of the face and also not worry about remaking. I’ve just started trying this and I so want to do it properly, it saves me form pesky pins and clutches and bun sticks. Those require constant Maintenance
What state are you located if in USA? That thrift store!!! I saw a lot of linens I would have bought! I never see that many at any one thrift store. I am in Georgia. Thanks~
I’ve gotten all the way to camp and realized I wasn’t sure if I’d make it back for fuel… I did, but only because I was less than 15mi from a gas station.
Basting also helps avoid the tension issues that pins can sometimes create because of the way they go through the fabric. And you can leave them in to keep everything in place until you're done, instead of having to pull them out to avoid sewing over them or stabbing yourself. 100% worth it.
5:55 that's a pretty big problem. I went and looked at their catalog, the new editions of the non-stay/undergament-focused ones, the dates are as follows *1560-1620*: POF 3 *1695-1795*: POF 6 1720-1860: POF 1 1860-1940: POF 2 Therefore, there is no content in the Men's and women's *Dress* books between 1660-1690, which the original POF 1 included. Would anyone mind referring to your copy of the original and confirm if there were only undergarments and/or ruffles &c, and they may "only" have been shuffled into those dedicated publications? Thank you this was very helpful.
What I've noticed in my original set is there is a 40 year gap between 1620 and 1660. Now there is a wider gap going from 1620 to 1695 in the main Patterns of Fashion series. I've been doing some research and found Jenny Tiramani worked on some promising 17th century books that fill this gap and were published through the V&A. I'll post some details on them when I get to my desktop 😁

@@MaridithSmith Oh, neat, I just recently got that book and was looking at the kirtle pattern! Did you alter the neckline at all? Bruegel's necklines look pretty round compared to the standard square Tudor thing, like the country peasants were sort of still back in the 15th century, fashion-wise. Maybe I'll try the TT pattern and see if I want to make that kind of alteration to it. Thanks!
