Admire the transparency between quality and economics. I tend to live in that world as well…quality is certainly there but I am not always in the position to acquire unfortunately!
Great video. One thing I wish you would have done is shown some footage without the heavy grade and stylized film grain etc... for just a couple of clips. Really hard to actually get an idea of the great 5k when it looks like Super 8 here. I am deciding between the Lumix S1R and the Leica SL2 for this 5k S35 feature right now so that would have really helped me out. With that heavy of a look it really could have been 1080p. Love the channel though, looks great.

Right now I’m just reviewing things I buy myself. Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to review more gear but as of right now it’s only the things I buy to actually use
I thought I came from a small town in rural(ish) New Zealand... we have around 80,000 people here (a big chunk are university students who come and go). Great video Lukas, really enjoyed it.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give people shooting video on this camera is shooting in HLG instead of L-log. You lose a tiny bit of dynamic range but gain better color (less magenta$
Great video and samples. Bought a used 24-70mm for my SL2-S and sucked dust like a vacuum cleaner. Glad I could give back to the dealer. Currently waiting for the next used 24-70mm in mint condition. Hope this one is more dust-proof. This lens is a great combo with the SL cameras.
cool think about the minilux is you can leave them on without the battery wearing out.. s.k. Grimes makes a hood for it, I just never turn mine off. Also solves the flash setting annoyance.
I have had the 24-90 since it was released. Still use it all the time. Like having 6 lenses in one. Just that good. Yes, very big and heavy. But worth it.
Great input! On my SL2 I’m currently shooting with a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 DG DN. I like this combo because of the range it gives me and the weight as well. Returning from a 5 week trip to Portugal and the Sigma was on my SL2 for 90% of my +7,000 photos. Cheers!
Bro stop it please, get yourself a 24-70 it’s not that big pf a difference in weight and size, you get 10 times the quality. Currently shooting also with the sl2 and mainly 24-70 sigma art 2, tried ones the 28-70 from a friend, there is no game

I didn’t shoot a zoom lens for the first 20 years of my professional career until I purchased the 24-90mm last year. Now I’m pretty obsessed with it. I’d love to try the 24-70. Also never understood why the focal length is on the menu screen but not on the live view screen. Great vid - happy shooting!
I’ve always been a prime guy, pretty much only got this lens for video but I’ve been blown away by the character of it. I’m interested in trying the 24-90 some day, but I think my next lens will be an APO prime
I had a new SL2 with 24-70mm lens delivered to a neighbour who lived across from me, by mistake. This neighbour had a history of denying taking in parcels. Fortunately I had an another neighbour who witnessed it. When I went over to get it, I thanked them for taking my parcel in. They go ‘what parcel?’ Fortunately the box was in the hall behind them. So I said ‘that one’. T which point they admitted it and gave it to me.
The level of service for private and public postal/delivery systems in the US is shocking. I recently sent a book purchased by a customer in the US, postage paid and the delivery never arrived. The customer believes USPS lost it. What is the point of paying for secure shipment? This would never happen in my country of residence.
I accidentally left a black soft-sided case in a cart in the Target lot. It had my 15” MacBook Pro, my cinema camera and and external HD with a lot of my media. Didn’t realize I left it until after I unpacked my purchases about 20 mins after getting home. I rushed back with no hope of ever getting my stuff back but some kind and honest soul saw my bag in the cart, opened it and realized it was probably important to someone and turned it in! Still blows my mind to this day, six years later.
When the Sony A7R4 was new....Fed Ex delivered my camera to 1302 9th St instead of 1302 10th St. I got lucky the home owner was honest. I ended up receiving a package of his a couple of weeks later.
Thats amazing! I used to live in an area where we, thankfully, had the same drivers for fedex and ups, we've actually had the fed ex driver find a package from amazon across town, and he randomly saw our name and address, and drove it all the way over on the weekend to bring it to us, we thought It was stolen / lost. I do my best to make small talk / friendships with them, you never know when it will help. Glad your cam is safe and you made a potential connection out of that experience!
Hi Lukas..... just watched this movie ..... after your SL2s set up movie- :)...... and left you a comment there.... great job here.... so my other rabbit hole- in addition to Leica is Nikon.... I go way back- to 1987- my first Nikon... N2002.....it just broke recently.... the rewind engine burned up..... that smelled great!- Anyway... I have the F3 and the F2... and love them- and many more Nikon film cameras... too many to list here.........but overall use is less- as I have the MP and M3... but when I do pull them out- I feel the same way- as you described..... I am still trying to get my arms around film stock.... discovering which film I love most.... both color and BW..... on the color side- I think I am sticking with Gold 200 and Portra series......just easy that way- and I love the colors......... black and white side has been so much more difficult-.... (and of course- film is not cheap- but delivers such a great experience..... ) alway loves recommendations...... what is your favorite film stocks- color and BW... and why- .... let use typical outdoor photography- I have a close friend who shoots a lot of film- and inside without flash- so he has shared with me high ISO film stocks for inside shooting..... I do some inside shooting with film.... but majority of film is outside..... thank you John

long time M and Q user- just picked up a BEAUTIFUL (pre-owned) SL2s...... yeS!..... Oh my..... will use mainly with my M lenses.... but did get the 75 APO (pre-owned) when I picked this up..borrowed the 24-90 to play with when I was trying out the SL2s at my local Leica store.......- really enjoyed the experience- but as all know- HEAVY....probably aim for the 35 APO (pre-owned next)... your tips are great.... will watch your how to video (um,,,motion picture) tips next...... thank you...ps... your motion picture here (I have been "instructed" not to call it video- ha... it's a Leica.... if you want to video- use your iPhone :).............is so well done- information to the point- easy to understand... thank you......well done

Nice, realistic commentary on the camera. I'm in mid MI. The 5DC is my "get out of the creative rut" camera. It's a tool that gets out of my way and I adore that at times.
How is the heat management on the sl2s for video. Does it over heat often or is like a a7siii and that it can handle being a little hot. Pretty interested in picking one up
I’ve used it in 105* f conditions and it was fine, I’ve never had an overheating experience with this camera and I’ve put it through its paces. It does however, get very cold in the winter
I have had my R100APO macro for years. Used it on my R8 for ever. Now I use it on the SL2, Did not like the rendering of it on my SL3. but beautiful on the SL2
This is really cool. The magic here is that they didn’t have all those constraints of the rules we all stress over. It allowed their creativity to run rampant and it shows.

I really enjoyed this video ! The power of magic and the sharing of photography ! Great ! For beginners in film, I found the images excellent for a start.
I can relate to how you feel because my first serious camera was a Leica M3 with a 1.5 lens. I love that combination and took it everywhere. Eventually though I borrowed my friends Nikon with a 50 1.4 a 28th 3.5 and a 135 2.8 lens And with that combination I just fell in love with Nikon. I liked being able to see my depth of field through the lens as opposed to a viewfinder or rangefinder to focus. The rangefinder was still way better for shooting in dim lighting because I could focus on a candle with that M3 where as SLR’s were very poor for focussing in low light. So certainly the Leica has its place. I like an SLR way better than a rangefinder. And now that the cameras are mirrorless which was the big difference between the SLR and the rangefinder that negates owning a rangefinder as far as I’m concerned and they have stabilization as well, I enjoyed your review. Glad you enjoy shooting film, which is something I don’t do much anymore although I still have couple of film cams Ieft that I kept. Regards Gerry
Absolutely! I view them as different tool for different things. I still really love the rangefinder process but while it’s out I am happy to shoot the f3 and f2!
A few months ago I sent my Leica M4 for CLA. In the meantime, I picked up a Nikon F and used it while my M4 was out. Fast forward to now, I'm happily shooting my M4 again but my trusty Nikon is calling me from the cabinet. I need to put some rolls through that puppy!
Reality! I love my Leica system. My pro life was made with Pentax SLR and later My Nikon-F Kit! I was given a Canon AE-! with lenses, it was light years ahead of my M6!
Absolutely! I still prefer the process with the m6 but I really like shooting with my Nikons, might start doing some double exposures with the f3 since they make it so easy
