I am an enjoyer of video games. More importantly, I find video game design to be endlessly fascinating. I love looking at a variety of games made by a variety of people and seeing what people choose to put into their games.
I love finding interesting choices that pay off in little indie games. I love big AAA games that know exactly what they're trying to do. And I love how both the smallest of indie devs and the biggest of AAA devs seem to have an equal chance of pulling something off that's capable of capturing people's attention and imagination.
This channel is dedicated to finding games and turning people onto them who might find them interesting.
I do tend to focus on upcoming smaller indie games, but the big chonkers are fun to look at every once in a while, too.
I hope you enjoy your time here and I hope you find something new to check out!
Hello, I would like to introduce myself as a representative of the developers for the game Mage's Legacy. I want to mention that it is currently only a trial version of the game with its first level, so there may be some incomplete and subjective assessments. Thank you for taking the time for us, and we hope you will support the upcoming official release. <3
Thanks very much for saying that. Glad to know it's appreciated. It's a weirdly challenging struggle to keep the focus on reading while recording a video. There's always so much going on. Easy to get distracted.
Hi. Midnight Special Dev here. Sorry about the constant Mr.Happy Bar. It's a UI issue we missed. We'll be patching it asap. Thank you for taking the time to play our game.
That may indeed be the case. I've seen some stuff that makes me think you get kidnapped at the end of the demo and wake up in a house that I'm assuming is the kidnapper's... but I don't actually know if that's what the game is or if it just resets and you do another shift. In which case, it would kind of just be doing the exact same thing that Chilla's Art games have already done.
@@sliceofanime8614 This demo was re-released as another game under another developer and publisher (only 2 days after the "Midnight Shift" demo was put up), where the Steam store describes the full game as something where you have to escape the house of the kidnapper and surrounding area, and can do so in multiple ways, from being stealthy and evasive, to going on the offensive, with dynamic AI that responds to your play style. Which sounds cool. But I have no idea how the stuff in this demo becomes that game. This demo has a few very simple scripted events and "press E to make the screen fade to black where a sound plays." And the scripted events don't even work in the new demo. There's something really fishy and weird about this.
My first streamer! Thanks for playing. You were right about the budget. This is a personal project I have been working on to try and release my first game on Steam.
Looks way too grindy for me. Like if NCSoft made a survivors game lol. Might be cool in a couple updates. Do you have a list of games you plan on playing?
Indeed. It's not finished until it's finished. You never know. I don't have any kind of a list, in terms of demos. Whenever I feel like making a video, I usually just end up looking at the store and grabbing something about 2 minutes before recording. But in terms of full releases, I have a steam wishlist of 232 games, most of which I've played in demo form, liked, and plan on checking out when they release. That being said, about 98% of them don't have a release date so I have no idea when they'll be out to look at.
@@t0ptircasua122 None. I just do this for fun. Critiquing and rambling about the games while playing them and having them live on youtube to look back at adds a fun element to playing games that I enjoy doing. I've already exceeded any expectations for people actually watching anything.
Nice showcase and break down! Broke my heart when you mentioned beyond good and evil and I remembered the sequel may never be real lol. Looking forward to you playing some more of these
Apparently the new remastered version of BG&E (that comes out in 2 days and was announced after I posted this video) has a new mission in it that links the story of the first game to the second. Doesn't mean it can't just disappear, but Ubisoft is still insisting that it'll come out.
Watching this back, I'm frustrated by what I did in the hedge maze. Towards the end, I would start by immediately going right and checking a dead end. Then after checking everything on the right side, I'd loop back past the elevator to go left and in the process, pass the dead end right in front of the elevator, thinking that was the first one that I'd checked when I hadn't actually looked at it yet. I legitimately think the hedge maze is just number of statues and I was confusing myself in the maze.
My two favorites were Mind Diver and Minds Beneath Us. (Coincidence that they both have "mind" in the titles) Mind Diver was just a really cool way to explore a world. Minds Beneath Us was very well written and did an awesome job of creating actual sympathetic characters in a very short amount of time (and then placing them in an interesting situation).
Big thanks for delving into Darwake and showcasing your gameplay! 🎩 As you await the full release, why not swing by Darwake's official Disc Server? It's the ideal hub to share your invaluable feedback with us and mingle with fellow dreamlings! 🌌
That is indeed the risk with any game. I took a look at the Steam reviews and read some of the negatives. Unfortunately, I'm not far enough in the game to speak to many of them (and even if I was and I disagreed, it'd just be my opinion, which would probably mean about the same as the opinions of the people leaving the negative reviews). I will say that several people mentioned the movement not feeling that good. For what it's worth, I thought the movement felt really good. I haven't played more of the game since my initial video due to a busy work schedule, but when I do, I may record it for the channel so people can see a little further into the game.
Well I like it so far. It is like A few games. Metroid,Super Alloy Ranger,Axiom Verge,Axiom Verge 2,Barbarian: Testament of the Primordials,IconoclAsts & Hollow Knight A tad. If love Metroid games and never played IconoclAsts. I recommend it. Very Metroid like. With graphic differences, but main character is Blonde and female.😅
@@MrJehoeSurprised you went back from the mines area. Most games I see people play always go forward and not back track to check things. Cool to me you did 😊
to be honest i thought the main character was some type of fish hybrid alien thing. the beginning shows in the space craft like almost a fin fish like thing around the head which i just was like ok cool... its a sci fi game i didnt have any weird thoughts. then when you called up the pause menu thing it shows a normal woman(im guessing at the picture). interesting.
Ha! I watched it again to see if it's one of those "once you see it, you can't unsee it" things and I still don't see it. I see which part you're talking about, though. Funny! On a semi related note, though, I do quite like the art style in the cut scenes. Kind of reminds me of Day of the Tentacle. It's that same ratio of simplicity to detail and uses angles kind of the same way.
Ha! I use an app called VidIQ that makes recommendations about tag usage, chapter usage, and reminds me to do things that the RU-vid algorithm likes. All that to say they recently added an AI evaluation of titles and it flagged this one as being confusing. I overruled it because it made me laugh.
First of all, I'm glad you like the game. By being critical of something, I never mean to disparage the opinions or enjoyment of others. Second, I do somewhat agree with you. The video is 36 minutes of me rambling about the game so I'm sure you didn't watch every second of it, but I do call myself out a little bit on not acknowledging enough that it's its own game. That being said, I don't think it's entirely unfair to keep bringing up Geometry Wars. The title of the game and the visuals/design are very clearly selling the premise "What if Geometry Wars was reimagined as a survivors game?" And I don't think they pulled off the first part of that sentence. To your point, that doesn't automatically make it a bad survivors game. But it does mean they didn't deliver on the premise. My feelings on it are that the survivors genre is super crowded. I don't think this one is terrible. But I also don't think it stands up on its own without that hook being effective. And I think it would have been a better game if they did execute on that part of their premise, better. All of this is just my own subjective opinion, though. You mentioned that my critique is not objective. It is specifically not meant to be.
I agree. I do think the idea of taking the loot from the run and buying it to slot in permanently is a cool idea. I just don't think it carries the entire game. It essentially transfers what would normally be 30 - 50 decisions in a run down to 1 decision made outside of the run. And then you still fill the time where those 30 - 50 decisions would be made in a different game, but without much to do.
Dev here, I'm so sorry! Thank you for checking it out though and honestly really helpful stuff, the note flip area is getting highlighted more asap. Good content, subbed!
Nice! I think a tutorial would go a long way, too. The game mechanics (with the mind map and finding things in the world to click on to add to it) are definitely interesting, different, and cool. It's just hard to piece together how it all works and what the game wants from you. That, mixed with really subtle interaction points, makes it tough to get going. Lots of clicking without knowing the intent. I'm still excited about it! Cool premise and a lot of really neat ideas!
You are not the first regarding the tutorial request. I have a "Controls" feature in the main menu but truthfully it's not very accessible, being just a wall of text. I do want some level of confusion from a player perspective to mirror the amnesia-setting, but this needs to be better balanced. Most likely I'll start working on that tutorial. Thank you for the added input! I will take all into consideration@@MrJehoe
I still see him around (online) every now and again. He moved to a different country in a very different timezone which is a pretty big change. That'll impact anyone's day to day.
