Chuck said the line came from a golfing buddy, who had kids and tried not to swear, so instead of swearing he would yell, "Go to War Miss Agnes!" Having no idea what it meant, Chuck took it. :)
There were other bands, such as The Turtles, Jackson Five, Bobby Sherman, The Archies, etc. They came in other snacks as well by other brands. But, as you're getting at obviously the brands were trying to sell their product using the music.
I don't remember the cereal box ones but I do remember finding these inside magazines like National Geographic. They didn't have the cardboard backing, it was just a thin layer of plastic with the record grooves on it. Usually the plastic was square but the record was round.
I found one of these way in the back of the shelf at a tiny country store in way out in the boonies of eastern Kentucky yesterday. The expiration date is in 1970 but I am enjoying the cereal and the record.
I think I bought a cassette like that at the Dugout Zone's autograph show in Elkridge last year. I know I got Brooks to autograph my Orioles black and orange world series jacket.
