Beautiful knife, but following today's prices. I think this knife would cost at most US$ 3500. Recently, one of the same period of 84mm was sold for US$ 2000. Regards.

Have you a link of the auction? I agree with a standard spartan knife from that time period. The speciality of this specific knife is the corkscrew with 6 turns. And that was only available in 91 mm.

You kind of get the idea that someone allowed a designer to run around like a toddler with crayons on this one. I really do like the concept - but it does come with a host of issues. Firstly V co. is known for their affordable quality, functionality and usability (this is reflected in steel choice - models which have been reproduced for years en mass... etc.). So to produce something which undoubtably has been produced for I'd assume the collector's market. Seems 100% counter intuitive to their brand. High price (but same materials as other models), Does not look like its carry friendly, or comfortable in the hand... So ultimately as mentioned its a little piece of cool design, aimed at sitting unused in a glass cabinets to show off to your friends and family when they come over. Would I spend that kind of money to be cool like McGyver... nope. I'd get the regular model.

Spannender Kommentar, vielen Dank!

An intelligent and well considered review of this strange creation. I agree with your assessment, “cobbler stick to your last”, or perhaps “cutler stick to your stiddy”. The tools reminded me of mountains, but I love your animal motifs-especially the last one, haha! I would never guess stone tools.

Thank you very much. I think if art is not immediately recognizable as such, but needs many pages of explanation, it is not "good" art. Sometimes I think you make something particularly complicated and try to explain something particularly intelligently, for which a simple explanation would suffice.

Good analysis of this object and it’s implications on the Victorinox knife collectors. It seems to me with all the modding going on by there customers to get the tools they want, Victorinox could do more to meet there customers needs and desire’s. They retire popular models I guess to make them into collector’s items ? These knives end up to expensive to use or replace so they collect dust in a drawer. Thank you for the video.

Many Thanks. Yes, I see it that way too. And with the Alox hype, Victorinox itself came up with the idea of expanding its own collection. In addition, Victorinox has stopped supplying SwissBianco as the only modder with semi-finished products, which was definitely a good decision.

An Index or Table of Contents with time stamp links to the different chapters of the video would work too. @elsinox - I know it would be a lot of work, but I would like to see you collection cataloged on your website. The dated advertising knives you posted on MTO are an incredible resource for others and they reduced the resolution hosted there. I would only ask you add the back/bottom view of the knives if you host such pics on your website. Maybe the ends too, when it makes sense. I don’t know if yours is the largest collection, but it is certainly the best and most comprehensive I have seen online! 👍

This one surprised me as well- first place to the basic 205. But I had no idea there are only six known extant and how much they may be worth! I was among those who did not know exactly what the first 205 looked like until this year’s replica came out. (I am happy Victorinox produced it so I could at least own a copy!) the different corkscrew was new to me. Having three examples to show here is very special. Thank you for this series of videos- they have been enjoyable and informative!

Yes that's the way it is. The value of the office knife has only developed so strongly in the last 5 years or so. The prices are now higher than those of old soldiers' knives. One thing that is particularly certain about the officers' knives is that they have hardly changed in terms of the tools and the basic configuration - in complete contrast to the soldiers' knives. And the story is unique and remarkable!

Beautiful rare knife, thanks for the look. That Karl himself designed and named it is special. Must have been for the Horse Soldiers (or the use of war horses in general) that were to be phased out (by the USA) over a time period that corresponds with the production dates of the knife.
@elsinox
@elsinox 2 года назад
Yes, it's quite possible that they were designed for that. But they were never official equipment of the Swiss Army. In the Swiss Army, the use of horses has always had a high priority. There are still so-called "train" units consisting of horses that are used in different places and for different purposes.

That’s a big surprise!👍I have never seen or heard of the Wenger Switch. It is very innovative, even for Wenger. I wonder where the other 49 are! I don’t think Victorinox will ever produce such a knife- it looks very expensive to manufacture. Pairing the new model with the original was a great way to demonstrate the evolution of Wenger. Thanks for sharing.
@elsinox
@elsinox 2 года назад
From what I heard, the other 49 pieces were given away to large suppliers. It is therefore very possible that these are rotting away in drawers in some office or have already been disposed of as part of a restructuring. I think the concept is great and I've always wondered why Victorinox never made anything like this. A modular pocket knife that the user can put together individually for their needs. It is great! But probably very complex to produce.

Thank you. Yes, indeed. Its new and never used. It belonged to a person working for the "kriegsmaterialverwaltung". The son sold it to me when the father passed away. I wanted to try that can opener to see if its better than the old one. But I m a bit afraid I could damage the knife (or myself trying to use it) 🙂
