Loved the video and music, nice choice! Wife and I took our 9 year old twins across the knife edge on a nice summer day. They loved it, but I would not have wanted to do it in high wind or rain. I remember the Helon Taylor trail down seemed to take forever.
This will be my 3rd year making and annual winter climb of Washington. In 2021 that chimney section at 4:08 was a pure ice waterfall. Only the presence of a large group's rope allowed people to ascend and descend safely. Last year I went up Ammo and hit Monroe and Washington, and descended via the cog. Much less icey and the weather was great. Highly recommend that descent at least once. Perfect for sunset!
You did a great job with the editing and music choice. Climbing down the notch looked easy in the video while I have always found it to be one of the more challenging section. You captured the vertical climbing out of the notch very well. My family and I did Cathedral and Knife Edge on July 3rd this year. Now that I am 68 years old it a bit more of a challenge! Thanks for making the video.
My buddy ended up landing in one folded with his head towards his knees. I always worry. Decided to just watch some folks work their way out and think about techniques. Good video to see the struggle haha.
Yes "Lion's Head". Congratulations on a Great Winter Trip! I climbed MT Wash many times, Sometime in the 1990's me and a friend did "Lion's Head" in late Nov/ early Dec, but it was still snow free. Once I climbed Mt Wash alone, May 1993, --70 mph winds w/ gusts of 121mph (I found out later). I felt like I could be "blown off the mountain". Only time I saw only ONE PERSON at the top, a guy from Italy who climbs the Alps. Yes, maybe a Winter trip for me some day...then again, there is always the Spring, Summer, or Fall...🙂5 STARS! --Van
You’re not the guy I met yesterday morning at the liberty springs trail, are you? I met a group of hikers at 5am, one of which said he does lions head up mt Washington annually.
This video does an outstanding job at the impossible, capturing the spectacular excitement of this trail. The music somehow fueled the magical quality of the "edge". Thanks so much for sharing. The editing was well done; however, the timing was a little too fast for my taste. Your selection of transitions worked very well also,
Pamola to knifes edge or Baxter peak to knife edge to pamalo. Which direction you feel is more stable less scary i guess. I plan to go in October , I dont mind heights but I yield in the line of. Caution.especially in the steep parts it its easier to ascend or descend .
Wow!!!! So that's what the knifes edge looks like without the fog😂😂😂😂 I recognize the crazy sections, what an amazing unforgetable mountain, if you get a chance check out our channel on this mountain it was very surreal in the fog and high winds. Nice job!!!!
I hate those! My worst one took me 1/2 hour to get out of, I got one snowshoe lodged between 2 limbs and had to take the other one off, take my pack off to sit on to keep me from sinking too far, and dig with the other snowshoe until I could reach the bindings on the trapped one.
My favorite mountain. I’m living 3+ hours north of it now and have some nice ones almost in my backyard, but I will get back down to the Whites sometime. And yeah, that part can be intimidating LOL I’ve only done Champney Falls Trail once that I can remember (maybe when I hiked it in the 80s in Boy Scouts, too), it was a FRIGID day in March 2017. I didn’t summit because the Sorel Conquests I wore for the cold felt unstable on some of the rocks. Ankle support isn’t their strong point. My favorite route is Piper-Weetamoo-Hammond-Liberty. Much more sheltered in bad weather. Great video!
Amazing transformation with the before and after shots, and then seeing it being used and looking like new! I imagine that it was a rewarding and satisfying project on something that will now likely last a lifetime. Thanks for sharing and ATB.
For the most part you'll leave them on. There is always ice in between the rocks, and often encasing them. I got stainless steel crampons specifically to be more durable than an aluminum equivalent. You might swap over to a microspike or trail crampon, but only if the conditions are extraordinarily mild. You can resharpen your crampon spikes at home if they become dull.
@FollowTheCairns603 What time did you start the ascend and how many hours it took you guys to reach the summit. I am planning to do it this Jan and I am in need of some expert advice. Trying to figure out for someone doing first time a winter hike or something like this, how much time do I need ot give myself for this hike.
Pretty neat. However, someone needs to teach the girl in the lead at 3:14 how to use an ice axe. She should be plunging the shaft into the snow, not the pick or adze.
You are inspiring me to back there. Done the Knife Edge in 98 and 08. Just a long drive from Western Connecticut and a pain to get the Camping reservations.
Thank you for sending this to me Marshall you are an awesome Son it looks like there's a lot of blowdowns up there I don't see how you can follow a trail it looks so confusing I love you
