Come along on my hiking adventures and explore the Pacific Northwest with me!
Hi. I'm Steve, your guide through the Pacific Northwest. I take you along with me to see waterfalls, scenic vistas, rivers, lakes, and mountains. So if you want to see a hiking channel that shows you the beauty of nature then this channel is for you. I let nature do the talking during my hikes. I also give hiking gear reviews and tips as well to help you before you hit the trail.
Since 2015, I have traveled the United States extensively spending time at 24 national parks and countless state parks. Unfortunately, I took no video footage of the hundreds of trails I hiked and the backpacking I did, only a ton of pictures. So I decided it was time to make some videos and take you along with me as I explore the Pacific Northwest.

Nothing. I never had a problem. I did bring some iodine tablets as a backup though. But the Katadyn worked just fine. It's pretty easy to clean the filter if you notice the flow rate slowing down. You can swish the filter in non-silted water or fill the flask up with half water, screw the filter on and shake.
We had a rainier spring than usual which kept everything that way. Gorton creek is so awesome isn't it? Most people stop at Emerald Falls and turn back. They probably don't even know there is another waterfall further up the creek but they wouldn't scramble it either way.
Very cool…love to walk and hike on the rainy days as you often have the place all to yourself…just checked out your soaps -you’ll have a new customer here pretty quickly…
Thanks so much. It's definitely nice having a waterfall hike all to yourself. 99.99% of people stop at Emerald Falls and turn around so I knew I would have Gorton Creek Falls to myself. Appreciate your soap order. 🙏. Thanks for checking out the video.
Thanks for the sub. Glad you enjoyed the video. Definitely one of my favorite wildernesses. Hidden trails are always fun. No sightings that day though.
I grew up in greeley, just like rainbow pools Dianna was a lot better back when it was just an unknown local spot. I remember riding our bikes as kids all the way across town to go to Dianna in the summers before cell phones and somebody would come pick us up in the evening. It was a hell of a ride down the mountain to the trail!
What a blast that must have been. As you know that spot has gotten way more popular. Only if you get there early enough will you have some solitude. I was working in Sonora for a couple months and enjoyed my time there. Very beautiful. I also enjoyed Carlton Falls as well.
That's awesome. Parts of the forest feel like you are in some kind of fairytale. Waterfall is nice too. Trail is mostly flat which is an added benefit.
I did this first week of September which turned out to be great. No mosquitoes, river crossings were easier, and less people. It's an amazing trail for sure. Thanks for watching.
It comes with a fuel canister stabilizer if you need more stability depending on what ground surface you are on such as a really rocky surface. I've rarely had to use this. In terms of compatibility, weight, and space, a larger stand will compromise these. Never had an issue with the MiniMo tipping over. The fuel canister stabilizer does the job.
@@PacificNWHikerthe one I ordered comes with a pot adapter. For the top to make the platform wider. I will use this and my Flash depending on what I am doing. Ty!
That lower falls area is closed for regrowth. And has been for years. I’m all for the outdoors but recreate responsibly. There’s legitimately dozens of waterfalls in that area you can walk up to. Not this one though
Really beautiful area for sure. I was hoping for better weather but this Spring hasn't been as sunny as it should be. Still fun in the rain. I'm used to it by now. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. Yeah if you are not careful it would spell doom. I got a really great view of it that most people will never see. They have to find the hidden trail first to even have a shot. Very mossy forest, just the way I like it.
Thanks so much. I think I would make a good tour guide but I still have so much more to see myself. The PNW is a special place. Highly recommend you check it out one day.
Not kidding on the enchanted part lol. You'll be at 1k subs in no time! In fact, this video gets a sub! Your an inspiration to creative minds everywhere!
@@PacificNWHiker I couldn't leave a regular comment, so replied here. Love your videos to hidden places in the PNW. I live here and don't get out as much as I would like and your videos help me. Thank you for sharing, Steve.
@@pyronymph-868 I'm glad I'm able to help you out and you enjoy the videos. My purpose on RU-vid is to inspire people to get out more in nature. If you need more info on a particular trail or recommendations let me know. Take advantage of the PNW. There is no other place like it.
Oh wow. That's some waterfall. Stunning. You did well with all that ice. I slipped and fell in at my last waterfall 😂 I was on mountain with a plane crash site. Canadian crew from the 1940s. I go as often as I can to a mountain or waterfall. They are beautiful. We have many here in Wales. Not as big as yours but lots here too. Liked and subscribed. Great vid.👏👏👍
Thanks for the sub. Appreciate it. Always good to get out there in nature. I'm lucky to live in such a place that has so many waterfalls and beautiful mountains. I've had my fair share of slips and falls too. Part of adventuring I guess.
Beautiful sharing ❤! Superb sharing 💞! Lots of love and respect from a solo mountain hiker from the Hindu Kush Mountains Lower Chitral District of Pakistan!
I'm sure it may throw some people off. It's not the one on the Eagle Creek Trail. Just so happens to have the same name. But you get a cool area and two waterfalls. Eagle Creek is definitely on my radar though.
Dude, I've been watching your videos for nearly a year now. ( I actually met you last summer on the lower Cape Horn trail!) I love your videos BUT I think you could get a lot more viewers with a couple small additions. 1. Include a map at the beginning of each video showing an outline from the nearest main town or attraction. People could screenshot it! 2. Tell how long the hike is and it's difficulty rating, for the consideration of elder persons or children. (You could also include any specific difficulties and/or specific points of interest along the way, as well as SEASONAL access problems) Your videos are exceptional and enjoyable and deserve more attention. I sincerely hope you'll consider my suggestions. 😊
That was a great trail. I'll definitely get that video out at some point. Glad you like my videos. I used to say how long the trail is and the difficulty but stopped doing that. I will consider doing that again. I'll also figure something out with a map. Most places I go anyone can just map it but lately I've just been saying the general area I'm in like Southern Washington or Northern Oregon and not being specific. But these are good suggestions. Thanks.
@PacificNWHiker Yes, thank you. I think that the MORE information you provide, the more people will subscribe and share your videos with others they think might be interested!! Keep em coming!!
@@PacificNWHiker Google Earth has added a hiking trails mapping feature that gives you a nice 3d visual of a trail and it's pretty simple to use. Another great video btw, thanks!
Good question. As far as dispersed camping goes, you can camp anywhere inside the Siuslaw National Forest. According to the Forest Service "Dispersed camping is generally allowed anywhere except where posted closed, where overnight parking is prohibited, or within 200 feet of developed road, trail or facility such as campgrounds, picnic areas or trailheads." If you want an actual campground, then the closest that I know of is Devil's Lake State Recreation Area which is 40 minutes west in Lincoln city.
Yeah it was a great hike overall. The forest was awesome, the bridge had a great view of the waterfall and I was able to get up and close to it as well. A top 10 Oregon hike.
Thank you for your concern. The viewing platform at the bottom of the Falls was built for safety. It's not a barrier. Only the upper platform is recommended to stay on trail due to restorative efforts, not the base of the Falls. At the base there is no flora or fauna in danger from anyone choosing to get closer because it is just dirt, roots, and some grass. Hope this clarifies things.
@@PacificNWHiker there’s literally a sign stating the CFR which is 36 CFR 261.53B which is for the flora fauna. If you somehow still need info, call the trout lake FS station and they’ll better inform you. 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for sharing your hike. I have explored that Herman Creek trail in the past, but apparently did not take the turn you did as I don't remember this particular waterfall. I reallly appreciated seeing how the forest is doing these days, and your coverage was great..
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback. Yeah the trail splits at the first junction where you can cross the creek and head to Pacific Crest Falls or stay left and head to Nick Eaton Falls. I love how mossy the Herman Creek trail is. I know there are other junctions you can take to see some views as well.
From what I remember, when I get to the town of Coulterville, I drove down Greeley Hill Rd (this might also be called Bull Creek Rd) which will turn into Briceburg Rd right when you pass Buck Meadows rd. Once you are on Briceburg road look for a parking lot next to the road that is basically a grass field. It will be just a short distance. The trailhead is across the lot. If you hit a fork in the road and you see Old Yosemite Rd then you went too far. Hope this helps.
@@PacificNWHiker I'll be coming up from modesto... So I go through coulterville... I'll try and find it soon.It looks like a nice place.Thank you for your help.
