Well done ! I'm sure it will spark many memories . I managed to keep some memories from my concert days like my Gene Simmons bass pick from the Dynasty tour my fully autographed Tour poster ( Megadeth Peace Sells ) from when they opened for Alice Cooper on his Constrictor tour . I have a Corrosion of Conformity shirt a good friend mine made for me . I bleached the back of an Army shirt ( no patches or I.D. ) and on the bleached out back he did the COC skull and wrote out COC ( it absolutely kills ) . I wore it to the 92' Lollapallooza with the Chili Peppers , Soundgarden , Pearl Jam , TOOL and Ministry concert in Orlando . I also wore it to the very last RUSH concert . That's what its all about ....the memories . PK
@@ChuckSchillingDrums heck ya I agree. So you think Alex is finished playing? Hopefully you have children and can hand the drum down to them some day bro. Ps. I SUBSCRIBED
@@keepontruckinoutlawlife1248 Thanks for subscribing! It really seems like Alex is done. I can't fault him if that's his decision, he's left an amazing legacy of work behind. Watching old live footage, you can see he's almost entirely focused on Ed when playing, so I can imagine it doesn't feel the same anymore.
Very cool, Christmas in June! Congrats! =VH= was a band that others imitated but could never be duplicated. Long live the Mighty VH, have a blast with it
You weren't even born. To DON'T turn it back into FACTORY shape. It IS what it is and u just leave it that way. You clearly display immaturity and obviously you're the wrong owner of this drum.
I don't plan on going back to factory shape, nor do I plan on doing any irreversible mods. I'm just going to swap the hoop and head (safely storing the originals) and add a spur to be able to play it. It's not going to gig or anything, but it'll get played at home. Doing my best to preserve the history of the drum while also following Alex's wishes by using the drum.
Man what an awesome piece of drum history! Congrats! AVH is my favorite drummer. So glad for you! Cool that you’re near the rock hall, I’m in Columbus 👍🏼
Unbelievable! That was at the legendary backyard parties in the san gabriel valley days of Van halen. Just think of where that has been and what has been played on it!
It's really cool that you got a piece of VH history. At the same time it's a bummer that Alex has decided not to play live anymore. I don't know what he does with the money, hopefully something good. David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler sold their famous guitars for charity.
The charity was "Ride on Therapeutic Horsemanship". Ride On teaches adaptive horseback riding to children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. We also provide Physical, Occupational & Speech and Language therapy, specializing in using the movement of the horse to improve specific medical conditions.
DO IT! lease, i wanna see and hear Alex's bass drum, whether it was on the first record or not,who know's except AVH?but even better if it was used to write on fire or atomic punk perhaps....so cool he sold off the gear that created such amazing rock and roll.
That drum was 99.9% played in the Las Lunas house....I bet he got it when Eddie was still in High School. That's the drum he probably developed a lot of his technique on. To me, out of all the items on the auction....it's the one with the most history. All I wanted was a signed drum head to hang in my music room.....but I failed....lol.
Nice score!...To have anything he owned or played is so fawking amazing and cool, what a opportunity for all his fans he provided! because anyone who plays drums and loves VAN HALEN would be near delirious with excitment to have such a drum.good deal!
One thing I noticed upon viewing the photos of all his kits is that he was not afraid to take a brand new finely crafted set of drums, then begin drilling holes into each drum It was obvious that he did that so he could install his internal microphone mounting brackets. I believe that it was his use of internal microphones that he was able to get that “coffee can” sound from them… I have my own theory on as to why he began using 4 kick drums, and why the two outer ones were always joined up with the inner ones by coreugated tuning of various sizes, which had air tight seals around the tubing I believe it was an attempt to create a sort of large room effect with the outer drums by forcing air into them upon each hit. The outer ones would have microphones picking up the air volume as it’s being pushed through the tubing, then resonating inside the drum
Congrats man!! I’m a huge AVH fan and was looking at several things in this auction. Unfortunately I came up short on everything I was interested in. That’s great piece of history, I’m a little jealous.😂
As far as my research goes, the 22" was retired "well" before the first album recording. He had replaced them with a 24" and a 26" by the time of the recording, and then seemingly with tour advances he bought identical 24" and 26" to mount to the front of the first two. But this 22" was his main kick for a few years, and it likely made some of the earlier photos and even bootleg performances probably before 1975-1976 At least you have a few pictures of him early on with the drum that you could display with it! A lot of the drums in the auction were so-called "studio used" equipment, but there will never be photo proof of that (not that I think they are lying by any means, but "studio used" is certainly a stretch in order to inflate the value of a one-time use bass drum... lol)
I've been scouring through VH groups looking for any photos I can find. I've got pictures of this used into 76, and then a huge gap until NYE 77-78 when it looks like he had 24 and 26 kicks. I believe VH1 was recorded in Sept-Oct 77. You're most likely right that the 24 and 26 were on the album, but I'm still holding out hope 😂
@@ChuckSchillingDrums unfortunately there's only the one photo from the recording session... it's likely that he was using the 24/26 in the studio but there's a chance that he sized down or something to lessen the bleed in the other mics. we may never know, but it's still an important part of VH history!!
😨😨 *...OOHHH SHIITTTT!!!..* 😨😨 *F. Y. I. SEE IF YOU CAN FIND OUT IF THIS WAS ... EDDIE'S KIT FIRST!!!!!!* NO SERIOUSLY, A LITTLE UNKNOWN *"VH LORE,"* 🤓 ED WAS A DRUMMER FIRST, *(AL WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE GTR. GOD, THAT ED BECAME,)* HOWEVER AL, RESONATED WITH THE DRUMS BETTER (NO PUN INTENDED...😂,) SO EDDIE SAID -"FUC- (oooppppsss, SCRATCH THAT...😅) Aaaaa, said *"ta heck with the drums then, I'LL PLAY GTR. INSTEAD!!!!"* *BUTTTTTTTTTTTT,* *DO NOTHING TO THAT DRUM YET* .......................PLEASE....................... *DON'T CLEAN IT, DON'T POLISH IT, DON'T TWEAK THIS, OR TWIST THAT, NO FURNITURE POLISH, JUST TAKE A BREATH AND RESEARCH WHAT YOU CAN, AND WHAT YOU CAN'T DO, AS TRYING TO PRESERVE THIS ARTICLE OF R-n-R HISTORY!!! LET THAT SINK IN FOR A MIN* 🤔 *!...ROCK-&-ROLL HISYORY...!* 🤗 I AM AN *_"ALL THINGS ANTIQUE AND VALUABLE COLLECTOR!!!"_* I JUST HOPE YOU'LL READ THIS BRO, BEFORE, BEFORE, BEFORE, BEFORE, YOU DO ANYTHING TO THIS KICK DRUM!!! At least not until you find the three minimal values of that little gem of a kick drum!!! Those values are..,1.) "Mint condition" value, 2.) The "restored condition" value, such as cleaned, polished, parts replaced, etc. by a licensed musical instruments guru [CHECK,THROUGH "NAMM," I'm sure they can help...] 3.) "As is condition" value, sans doing anything to it. Of course there are other factors, AND conditions, however, those three are really important!! ANYWAY, YOU JUST MAY HAVE A REST OF YOUR LIFE RETIREMENT KICK DRUM, SOLELY FROM AN INVESTMENT ANGLE!! SOOOO, PLEASE, JUST TAKE A LITTLE MORE TIME, RESEARCH IT HARDER... AS A MATTER OF FACT, IF YOU WENT ABOUT IT JUST RIGHT, AL MAY BE VERY HELPFUL TO YOU W/SOME QUERIES AND ANSWERS!!! *ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER!!!!! *😎🤘🏼 *_"P._* ost *_S"._* cript I'm not trying to be a RICHARDHEAD, nor "the great, 'Asshole-E-Oh...!!" I am just hoping this is just enough info, for you to stop and ponder on!?!?
I appreciate the advice. I'm not planning on doing any cleaning/polishing or anything of that sort. I'm going to swap out his head and hoop for replacements (storing the originals somewhere safe), bolt the correct tom holder back on (no mods to do this) and put a second spur on so it can be played. It'll be in the vault when not in use.
Congrats to that piece of history! Actually I hoped, this would explain the 4 spurs on 14 deep bassdrums, but it´s obvious that Al added a second pair of spurs himself. I also own a 24 by 14 that I bought in ´94, serial number says ´76/´77 and it has also 4 spurs, but the holes are drilled exactly and clean, looks like factory made. Do you have any informations, if they did this to 14 deep bassdrums? I know the 16 deep had 4 spurs, never saw any 14. So I hoped, Al´s kickdrum would explain it... Thanx for posting bro! 👍🥁
