LS is OP 80% players are not using LS, but the fact is the weapon perfromance of 55% players are lower than LS in the TA ranking!! 55% players know LS is better than their main weapons, the number should be higher in reality, because many player use range weapons to farm material for their main weapons. When you do a interview to non LS players, there will be more than 68% of player think their main weapon is worse than LS. Range weapons are OP, why not? But it don't mean LS is not OP. As the 3% Lance main, i like counters and i know how to do counters. I can finish a monster much faster using LS than my LANCE!! My play time of LS is only 5% of my LANCE!! LS is an counter weapon, LS should do the best performance when the monster is attacking. At the late game TA, monsters are more often lying on the ground than attacking because of the damage power creep and game mechanics. In this situation, LS is still comparable to the range weapons, LS is better that other brust style melee weapons, like Charge Blade. When if there are more attacking chance for monsters like early game? LS will even perfrom better! I am the glory 3% lance main, I only care about lance. I will not compain about LS, excecpt when LS strike my shield and break my defense.
You realize that TA rankings use a very different set of arbitrary rules that most players don't play by right? Evaluating weapons based solely on speedrun performance is already a terrible generalization, but even more so if you're arguing TA rulesets specifically because of how heavily they restrict the players ability to access core game mechanics. Under TA rulesets the longsword is ranked 6 (which is still mid) on the Iceborne TA wiki, and in freestyle which is arguably (for lack of a better term) "closer" to how people normally play the game it falls off hard to bottom 5 where it gets outclassed by the gunlance. Even by your own metric longsword is still an average weapon in terms of TA performance, and if we followed this logic then we would have to conclude that dual blades and greatsword are also both overpowered along with the gunner weapons since they all outperform the longsword in TA rankings, but I think you'll have a hard time trying to convince people that the greatsword of all things is overpowered. If you can beat monsters faster with longsword than your lance, good for you. Some matchups I have better clear times with lance than my longsword, other matchups I have better clear times with my longsword than my lance, most of the time though my glaive has better clear times than both my lance and my longsword. These are very subjective comparisons and don't hold much weight, clear times don't do a good job capturing the strengths of a weapon outside of their DPS and their degree of variability doesn't make them good tools for measuring the effectiveness of a weapon.
Speedruns are not a good indicator, LS just doesn't have the tools that allow you to script fights like some other weapons do. It's busted in casual play (at least it was in base Rise) and you make performing counters sound harder than it really is. You also didn't adress the opinion that making LS into counter based weapon takes away from uniqueness of lance and CB. Video is very funny though, you got my like, good job.
@@MrBus359 Glad you liked it. I know it's kind of hard to believe because we are seasoned gamers with a lot of experience with the series, but a lot of people genuinely have trouble with performing counters like ISS (foresight is forgiving but people overestimate its power and I don't think thats where most of the complaints for Rise longsword come from). In terms of longsword taking away the uniqueness from lance and charge blade, I find that these are very surface level criticisms that dissappear the second somebody actually plays the different weapons and realizes how different the three actually play. It's not a very sound argument either because I can conversly say that charge blade took away the uniqueness off the longsword with its meter management and shield/sword buffs, or that lance and charge blade take away the uniqueness from each other because they both have shields. Completely agree that speedruns are not good indicators of general performance, I have no idea why people try to generalize this data but even if they're going to try (like Heavy Wings did) they should at least be consistent with the rules they've set up for themselves.
I do dislike LS, but not because it's too strong I dislike because of the low skill floor It's a light weapon with decently fast attack speed and long range, so just spamming the Y (or triangle) button and RT (or R2) button is totally viable strategy until end game, so it looks boring on that point of view Also Foresight Slash is too broken in my opinion. Not for the damage, but for the utility. It's basically an instant move with too much for its own good I don't mind Iai Spirit Slash, because the timing actually requires some skill, so player should be rewarded for it, but Foresight Slash is like a get out of jail free card for LS to me If other people want to use it, I don't really care, but I personally don't find much satisfaction when succeeding a hunt using LS
I'm glad you made this video because I think it hits at a far worse trend in gaming - the meta minded, obsessed side of gaming communities. It can be fun to analyze theoretical bests or worsts to a point, and even good to use data when interpreted correctly to suggest improvements to a franchises mechanics and/or playstyles. But so much coverage tends to gravitate towards negative bias because evolutionarily that's something you have to fight out of yourself. The guy who did the insane LS speedrun doesn't get a million views on their vod channel with the full process of them failing and triumphing inch by inch towards a desired, self-imposed goal. Most people only go so deep as to watch the viral, perfect run where you don't get to see the player behind it who genuinely enjoys the process and/or the game that is their play - if they didn't I can guarantee you they would have never stumbled upon that perfect video. They might even hate their viral video and say "this run sucks" which alienates them from people who don't have the mindset of someone who is as passionate about that specific hobby. I think some of the angriest players in any community would be happier if they just found what they enjoyed and kept it real enough so they could comment on their own experiences - not look at numbers erroneously to rationalize why they feel they cant get what they want with their own playstyle. That's what kept me playing Lance in base Rise when I can tell you down to the detail it sucked for very specific reasons and was still cool/fun for other reasons. And I still played it because I liked it. I made very good and kind arguments about the balance in the surveys they gave out, and I think that helped the devs make better decisions in the future about lance - Insta-blocks difficult parry window actually feels rewarding to use the counter out of it, and not just treat it like Melee Shine where you get to do almost anything out of it (which you do and it's hype). I don't like LS personally because it tends to swing everywhere, barely hit what you intend to hit, and trips people. And that maybe goes into a argument against flinch free becoming a bit too cheep to use and assumed for everyone in the multiplayer loby to have in modern MH... so that a LS user can go for the head and get in the way of the hammer player. That's a different conversation but I think at least a valid one. LS doesn't deserve the irrational hate, and I'd much rather the discourse be good so more people like me could eventually maybe be into it.
I feel like there's still a mystery here though if longsword isn't all that, but it is still the most popular where have been that 20% of players to explain hey know the weapon actually is quite risky to use and is not all that rewarding compared to other options obviously 20% isn't 80% I'm glad we agree upon that but 20% is still a huge chunk when you consider their 14 weapons that in theory should be as popular as each other.
I think it's a statistical inevitability that some weapons are going to have higher usage rates than others. There isn't really a rule that having 14 different categories means we should see an equal distribution among all 14 categories, people have different preferences for different things and statistics can capture a piece of that. Exactly why people gravitate towards specific weapons nobody can really say for sure and such a topic requires substantial research and testing that goes way beyond the scope of this video. It'd be interesting to see somebody give it a shot though.
pretty sick vid there. i guess i might just not have seen much of the actual annoying hatred personally cause i was feeling like you were deflecting to other weapons like really hard but that clip from that rurikhan guy got me goin "euuuu" so if most of the hatred is like that flavor then okay alright i can see why the defense was needed lol lmao
The only issue I got with LS are the people behind the LS, and those people know who they are, constantly telling off others for how they play. They are the problem with the series now after worlds release (I had a friend like this and when I went solo I started to actually understand and enjoy the game and when we play together I realize how fucked playing with him is)
Isn't it ironic that you claim LS users "tend to tell people how to play" when the community collectively decides that: 1. They shouldn't use flinch free in a multiplayer hunt. 2. LS and DB SHOULD ONLY target the tail 3. Cutting weapons should not be on the head. Hmmmm weird. Makes you wonder.
institutionalized weapon racism. wide sweeping attacks in the older games when flinch free wasnt a thing, and it being seen as a stereotypical weeb weapon. people dont really seem to get that ls kinda blows without a counter, because the majority of people in the current mh community that are vocal started with world where one was added to the base move set. ive said it before and i will never change my stance, people who started with world are some of the most insufferable people to exist. mh going mainstream has irreparable damaged the community and how capcom perceives how the community wants mh to be going forward. with the influx of people new to mh, more and more people have found it viable to voice their opinions online. the people referenced in the video, heavy wings and that guy who starts his videos with a catchphrase like an idiot, would not be making content in such a manner if world was never as popular as it was. it is those few people who internally dislike ls from back in the day spreading bullshit online to an audience who doesnt know any better. i will never forgive world for making gaijin stop making videos, and the fact that the new mh fanbase has let capcom know that they only want world style games on non portable systems only makes me hate them more.
The entire fanbase as a whole makes me sick, you losers are full of yourselves, it's hilarious. If you lot spent half as much energy actually playing these games instead of bitching about weapons you don't like, we wouldn't need videos "defending" certain aspects of these games. But you just can't shut the fuck up and let people enjoy the franchise in peace.
I remember the "LS is OP" stuff first coming up with Brave LS in Double Cross and people really really wouldn't shut up about it specifically because a few of at the time bigger speedrunners were using it the most when that game came out, which is really funny because for one, the window for the brave counter is pretty tight and second, the game was only out in japan so 99% of the people you saw complain about it online had literally never even touched the thing and were basing all of their opinions on videos of people that not only knew what they were doing but also practiced the matchups enough to get really good at them. This went so far that in a rare flash of voiced content, AkantoreX even talked about it in a video about weapon balancing. Thinking about it now, it almost seems funny that those times were simply the calm before the storm. Also, good job on the video. I would enjoy more of this type of content. :)
I liked LS more without counters. There's a really neat synergy in the design of the old LS (and most weapons) where you need to be in specific spots to do damage and specific spots to be able to avoid attacks easily, and you'd use fade slashes and your other attacks to deal damage while getting into those spots preemptively. You'd try to deal as much damage as you can while standing in or near the moving safe zones based on the monster. With counters everywhere is the safe zone as long as you can hit the timing window. Other people like it, I loved it at first, but the better I got at using the counter the more it felt like it took away from the experience and I was fighting every monster the same way instead of really needing to learn them.
I'm glad someone said it for me. I play the CB and I keep telling people that the range weapons are superior in damage. It's always made me feel bad that people get bullied over the longsword when you also have a DPS mod and see that the longsword players usually have the lowest.
excuses!! LS is the easiest to be good at. press one Button and you are invincible and do damage at the same time. All the weapons were upgraded to match the LS that's why i don't like MH Rise, it isn't a MH Game anymore.🤣
People who complain about weapons being overpowered in a PVE action game are really dumb, i'm not even a LS main (i play sns and ig) but i think the constant bitching about favoritism or overpowered mechanics is so dumb when as you mentioned in the video every weapon has its own unique powerful mechanics that many people ignore because someone on reddit or youtube told them that LS is overpowered, actual NPC behaviour.
As someone who’s more new to the series, idky a pve game has so much toxicity as to what weapon people use. I’d get it if it was pvp and ur forced to deal with something u don’t like. it’s just very odd to me
I've stopped playing longsword because of the hate for the weapon, I used to love it and found the counters hard but rewarding to be good at. The hate grew so fast and so loud I felt like I was a villain for playing it
I've been against bullying or memeing on LS. We can all dislike a weapon without being toxic about it, but the LS hate is just too strong and too toxic. Yesterday I gave up on fighting this losing battle, I've decided to just don't give a damn about the hate, and just play what I want to play. Besides, I usually play Solo. This community is beyond saving, I just keep Content Creators like Dear Gamer, Peppo, Arrekz, Nyx, etc -- because they are not toxic and are welcoming. People who "toxically" or blindly meme or bully or hate on ANY weapon, I will stray away from. I hope you find your peace and start picking up the weapons you find fun the most. Goodluck, and Happy Hunting!
@@xTiddi what a lovely reply haha. I can say I a permeant solo player for the same reasons sadly, too many bad encounters. Best of wishes on you too! And happy hunting!
never stop using it for the sake of others bro. you're playing video games to have fun, and not to listen to some random losers, that are filled with hate. the best thing you can do, is just block them and move on, and play with nice people or some friends. not everyone in the mh community has brainrot
I never hated the LS i actually enjoyed it on occasion in the older generations but when world introduced the counter system for it thats when i stopped liking LS everytime i picked it up i felt obligated to use the counters and i can't counter to save my life same with the shoulder tackle for GS i liked GS in old gen but not anymore after world
Good vid! I don't play longsword other than as a beat stick in sunbreak, and while I think silkbind sakura slash by the endgame was a bit too free, I appreciate its existence let me use this shitty ground insect glaive clone for a few hunts (jest).
Dawg this was some good editing lmaoo. You’re preaching to. I think the influx of players as the game became more mainstream lead to some takes being based on what they seen other people do, instead of what they have played themselves. I remember my 12 year old ass in freedom unite regretting picking great sword instead of long sword, just because it played faster, and I thought it was too late to change. When I go back for some nostalgia runs on mhfu, I pick weapons based on what I am hunting, and not what weapon is the most ‘meta’. I think future games should strive for this approach. Everything should be viable; but making some weapons just naturally stronger on specific targets based on timings is a good way to encourage people to experiment with the sandbox. Ex akanator has a big face, making hammer ideal, not that you can’t use something else. Or diablos with his charges and digging make melee weapons tedious, so range weapons, especially pellets are great. But ya, when a dude beats a monster without getting hit once cause of flashy Perry’s, it’s def cause the weapon is OP and not cause the dude has a billion hours practicing. Def the weapons itself. Couldn’t possibly be the hunter. So longsword must be OP. Despite what the data suggests
Thanks for making this video. I hate the fact that good longsword players are catching strays coz of all these shit longsword players and the majority of the monster hunter community generalizing that if you get a longsword player in your hunt they automatically assume longsword players are going tripped and staggered you to oblivion and beyond and your whole life is ruined. There's those idiots as well who has zero weapon knowledge who whines a a lot and those who hates the longsword for the sake of hating. PUT DOWN THE FUCKING PITCHFORKS AND TORCHES COZ IT'S TIME TO STOP. Anyways Great Video.
I can't even combo with Long Sword in the earlier games. Not saying I hate the damn thing but it's harder to play when counter focused. And I'm making an effort to play all weapons. Is it weird I can counter or block better with Lance than Long Sword? Valor Long Sword isn't that bad and can't even go Adept in GU. The ISS in Rise was just bad and had to spam the spirit gauge until I got the Sacred Sheathe. Still trying to see which I can actually stick with. How does the Lance fucking suck? It's because not enough players use it and don't see how good it is. Insect Glaive? I'll admit I hated it at first because of the hoops you had to go through to upgrade both the weapon and kinsect in 4U. It got easier to manage in GU and now in 5th Gen it doesn't feel awkward when trying to get the extracts. The one thing that almost turned me away from Charge Blade was the guard points. I may try to use them but know they'll do nothing. Just focus on damage in either style or I'm hoping the points in Wilds are as good in Rise, maybe bring back Ready Stance or Counter Peak Performance.
Dam dude this video was great, I picked up the long sword because I heard it was so overpowered but still get my rocked with monsters and didn’t really see how overpowered it was I really just liked the cool moves it has but srs this video was a really great counter to the entire long sword slander while being funny as well, gave me some real Running Shine vibes with how you were able to make great points then hit a curve ball of a joke at the end. I subbed and can’t wait until the next video keep it coming
Long sword is the anime noob stick. thats why it sucks, it makes things too easy. monster hunter isnt suposed to be easy, unless you're some crazy-ass hr999 veteran scumbag.
My friend hates both the bowguns and the LS because "ThEIr EasY' I find them fun, but hate his dislike when I equip them. Any ideas on how to educate him better?
