If some light and long fitting like cable or electrical conduit, it's fine to drill into the mortar. This saves spoiling the face of numerous bricks and also easier to drill especially if you have very hard bricks.

That was a very clean hole you drilled. Which is better--the cements or the plastic anchor especially when drilling holes for larger screws?
@buildingsheriff
@buildingsheriff Месяц назад
To be honest, they’re both the same if you get the anchor and drill diameter correct. It’s all about how the screw expands and causes static friction.

The marking of the pipe, was something I did on every joint. (Not a plumber but competent DIY’er). Every cut done with proper tool, then cleaned the end which put a slight radius on the pipe end, then marked it. Reason for the marking helps when I was reaching in some awkward places. Most of the time you know the pipe has touched the end, but sometimes it was the mark that let me know all was good. First time, I plumed everything in my house, 7 radiators, no solder, no plumber, 7 years on and no leaks or problems. Take you r time, work methodically, and you will do a good job.

Instead of twisting the spike to off set, if you alternate sides with sledge hammer will it have go in straight instead of off setting?

Good thinking. It should.
@cliffcarlo180
@cliffcarlo180 2 месяца назад
To avoid misalignment of the hole, begin drilling into the brick face with the hammer action off and at a low speed. Once the drill bit has made a small indentation of about 2-3mm, you can then continue drilling with the hammer action on. Or you could use a centre punch first to avoid drill bit shift.
