Canadian Cutting Edge is a channel with a primary focus on budget folding knives. While primarily on folders, also known as pocket knives, but there will be videos about anything related to knives as well as multi-tools and flashlights and a few other EDC type things. All of the time the goal will be to provide information about said products in order to make it easier for them to make their own purchasing decisions.
I get this question on a regular basis from Canadians, and I do mention the following information occasionally in my videos. There is no way of telling which video might be the first one a fellow Canadian will watch, but I don't want to annoy my regular viewers (90% of whom are not Canadians), so I don't mention it in every video, but I am happy to give that info here in the Comments. There is no store that reliably ships locking pocket knives into Canada because they have no control over which packages will be stopped, opened, and inspected at the Canadian border. For the last year+ I have all the locking folders that I buy from stores outside of Canada shipped to family in USA. They then take the knives apart and mail the handles in one package and the blades in a second package. It adds a lot of time and some extra expense to the process but it is the only reliable way I have found to get locking folders imported into Canada. I have had such packages inspected at the Canadian border and they have always been let through. Unfortunately, not every Canadian has friends or family in USA who can can do the same for them. That said, I do have stores ship fixed blade knives and slip-joint knives directly to me Canada without any issues at the border.
all this is missing is a finger guard/flipper that doesn't hinder the finger choli/ pivot point i say finger guard because just for added finger guard i still love this finger choli design but its just missing that solid finger guard i have a specific knife design for the pivot point fingerguard/finger choli
Correct, this knife has no guard. The blade shape is not designed for stabbing and piercing, therefore I believe it doesn't require a guard. Some people will want a guard on every knife - they should buy a different knife.

Thanks for sharing. I sometimes get comments that since this is a knife channel that I should stick to knives. But while this is predominently a knife channel I do sometimes choose to do videos about other EDC items and it's good to hear that there are folks that appreciate the non-knife content.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge I appreciate the non knife content personally, and enjoy your insight and analytical approach in general. I was a little surprised to see it at first on this channel, but the same aspects that we look for in knives apply here as well. There are huge variations in materials, construction methods, and overall fit and finish to be had, and a lot of it is handmade and hand stitched. I was happy to see you review such a high quality, readily available piece from a great company that is extremely well regarded by their corner of the niche hobbyist community as well.
Hi Jake. My friend, you are completely wrong about the way the clip is attached. This is the only way to reliably avoid play in the clip. If you use a screw, which of course will simplify the removal of the clip from the handle, but the inconsistency of the screw geometry will create play in the clip. At the same time, a pin with internal threads has a stable geometry and fixes the clip in the groove much more reliably. Sincerely, Ivan D. Braginets.
Hi Ivan. I VERY much like the overall knife design. Thanks for watching my review and leaving a great comment, but I think I am not incorrect "about the way the clip is attached". I think you mean that I am wrong about WHY it is made the way it is; I can readily admit that I could be wrong about the why of the construction and that my idea of a better way might not be better than the way RSK made it. The system employed to secure the clip definitely renders the clip reliably stable. Still, it makes it too much of an annoyance to change the clip to the opposite side. I am confident that many lefties who buy this knife will try to change the clip, but they will give up in frustration when they cannot even remove the clip in the first place. I am sure that many guys will remove both of the screws at that end of the handle, and in confusion about what to do next, will simply give up trying. Hopefully, some of them will see this video and choose to try again instead of getting rid of this wonderful knife. I have done teardowns on over 1500 knives in the last 10 years and not on even one other one was there a requirement to partially move a body pin (one that was stuck in place and not easy to move) just so that a pocket clip could even be removed in the first place. Therefore, I hope you can agree, at least, that that section of this video is helpful because it shows the uncommon step required to move the pin before it is possible to remove the pocket clip.
Anyone have an idea of how hard they are running nitro-v? I’m seriously tempted to pick one up, but if they are running it lower than 59.5 I don’t see the point.
Hopefully someone will see this and let you know. I know Lee over at LuvThemKnives used to have a lot of blades tested by someone in USA, but I don't know if he had RSK's Nitro-V tested or not. Maybe you can find the answer somewhere on his channel: www.youtube.com/@LuvThemKnives
I'm not sure if you can get them in Canada but skoda cars are excellent as well. Shame my country (Scotland) is no longer known for engineering or invention. Used to be, which is why the makers of star trek had Scotty in engineering. That wouldn't cross anyone's mind now. What a pity.
I does look cool. They don't say what steel it is, I wish I had easy access to someone who could test the steel and tell me what stainless it is and how hard they heat treated it. But, at $20 it's not really that big a deal.
It's actually not very dry, especially on the surface that has had my skin oil all over it, but I hear you - I just haven't decided exactly what type of wood oil/finish I want to use on it. I'll probably just use tung oil, but I might use my usual go to: Watco Butcher Block Oil & Finish
I think the slip joint guys say "nice walk 'n talk!" and I heartily agree in the case of this one. (Came back again to edit my comment, because I commented at the start of watching, and got farther in and realised that this is a REALLY nice slipjoint! Wow.)
Yeah, "walk and talk" is what they like to say, but I have never been much of a conformist. Thanks for watching long enough to "get" why I like this thing so much.
Good video! I really like slip joints but on this model the shoulder of the blade sticks out a bit too much when it's closed. Maybe a bit of nitpicking on my part though...
The best part of the knife hobby is that you can be as nitpicky as you want and nobody can say you are wrong, it's just your preference. The second best part is that there are so many knives to choose from that you should be able to find what you like. If you like everything else about the knife, you can always use a file and get rid of the harpoon hump on the spine of that blade and make it more to your liking.
Very true! But I meant that sharp angle near the pivot on the back of the blade where the jimping usually is. The harpoon point is fine by me. Best regards and thanks again!
Very nice gentleman's knife! As a lefty and hater of all pocket clips, the first thing I would do is get rid of it and use a pocket slip. It reminds me a bit of the Kershaw Federalist, a knife I love, and I believe this will fit in the same slip‽
There are a lot of others who feel exactly the same way. That's why I like this type of pocket clip - it still looks great even if yoiu delete it. Yeah, the Federalist is very close in size to this guy, I think it would fit that size slip just fine.
That would be nice, but I have never heard of such an option, and anyway I am sure my narrow minded insurance provider would still call that income - and that would be counter productive to me.
As a Canadian, Im really curious how a previous work-pension plan can prevent someone from engaging in commerce. Not my personal business but I'd love to know more about that.
I'm on a long term disability pension from my employer, and if I earn ANY money they drop my income the same amount. So, while they are not technically forcing me to not earn any money, they are in practical terms because their income reporting procedure is very invasive into my privacy and it's a lot of extra work to report this income, so much so that it's counter productive for me to earn any money. Even our government knows better, because I get part of my income from the Canada Pension Plan - Disablity, and they allow people to earn over $6K yearly before they start clawing back just a percentage of anything earned over that amount. This is much more fair and provides a path for people in pensions to grow economically without it costing the pension plan any extra money and eventually costing them LESS.

The Kansbol isnt intended for batoning as it has a thinner tip for meat cutting. Its mostly a hunting blade. The Garberg is intended for batoning as it has a thick blade through out and full tang. It is mostly a woodsman blade.
If you live in the country then this knife is decent for short camping trips or a hike or when building a fire but don’t wanna bring a hatchet but for everyday carry I suggest against it, i REALLY like how sharp the blade gets though and how it can chop right through kindling using rather just the knife or a wack of a rock or stick towards the opposite end.
I saved up money for a few months to buy a ZP, but it got scratched on the third day. I cried so much, and then my boyfriend bought me a bag from luxrul for me to carry alternately. Anyway, there are so many bags on the street, so as long as others can't see it, I think it's fine. The thought is there.
S - less than 3" M - 3 - 3.5" L - bigger than 3.5. Most of what I pocket carry are Small, unless I'm camping. I wear shorts almost all year, so I consider weight probably as much as length.
Good looking knife for $16 and in D2 which is a good steel. I hope your finger gets better…good to see I’m not the only knife dolt lol. Take care big shooter.
They are done fairly well, but they are manufactured by a Chinese OEM. The lock back is very appealing, I hope they have enough success with it to make a thumbstud variant.
I saw the Win+ variant online. I have to assume that they are made at the same factory. It is not uncommon for the lower cost Chinese knives to have several brand names.
I'd call it a large knife for a pocket folding knife. It's cheep on ali even shopping from Denmark. Only the black carbon available though. Pocket clip mounting is nice, the spacer and facade screw is 👍 much better than the empty voids for collecting lint and dirt. I like the pinheads on the pivot pin and screw. The backspacer gives a bit of stability to the handle when abusing the knife. But it looks nice without as well. Good review of a lot more knife than one would expect at that price, Jake! All the best Simon
Damn, I love the blade, but hate the handle. Maybe some paracord "extension" of the handle will help? It made Spyderco Manbuga a really comfortable EDC for me. I carry it with some bigger blade to not scare people ;)
So happy to see you review it. SRM is my favourite conpany and when I saw this model I immediately liked it. Not going to get it because I just went through a buying spree and got the Tenacious, RAT 1 and a Ganzo F729 : P
Looks like a nice little knife. I'd love it if makers got them down to 10 thousands behind the edge but lord knows that's reserved for the traditional/ high-end market, so I actually expected worse here.
Good presentation! The french usually categorize pocket knives as small, medium or large, based on the size of the closed knife. It makes sense considering it is something you should carry in your pocket. In that vein, I think that handles under 85 mm are small, between 85 mm and 100 mm are medium, and over 100mm are large. I've heard other people think roughly the same. It's good to see your finger is healing. Keep up the good work!
