Thanks. Yeah, many of us old guys were raised on slip joint knives, they keep us ( in part ) connected to the generations that went before us.

I think the slip joint guys say "nice walk 'n talk!" and I heartily agree in the case of this one. (Came back again to edit my comment, because I commented at the start of watching, and got farther in and realised that this is a REALLY nice slipjoint! Wow.)
@CanadianCuttingEdge

Yeah, "walk and talk" is what they like to say, but I have never been much of a conformist. Thanks for watching long enough to "get" why I like this thing so much.

I agree, and this is slowly becoming a more common feature, I just hope it becomes more popular, more quickly, than it has been so far.

As a Canadian, Im really curious how a previous work-pension plan can prevent someone from engaging in commerce. Not my personal business but I'd love to know more about that.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 дней назад
I'm on a long term disability pension from my employer, and if I earn ANY money they drop my income the same amount. So, while they are not technically forcing me to not earn any money, they are in practical terms because their income reporting procedure is very invasive into my privacy and it's a lot of extra work to report this income, so much so that it's counter productive for me to earn any money. Even our government knows better, because I get part of my income from the Canada Pension Plan - Disablity, and they allow people to earn over $6K yearly before they start clawing back just a percentage of anything earned over that amount. This is much more fair and provides a path for people in pensions to grow economically without it costing the pension plan any extra money and eventually costing them LESS.

A tool coming with a real steel knife better be real steel. That is a beautiful nice big knife. Only blemish being the obnoxious company badging.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 дней назад
At least their company badging isn't super dark and glaring, but I agree that it should be smaller, maybe just an RSK logo on the pivot pin.

Very nice gentleman's knife! As a lefty and hater of all pocket clips, the first thing I would do is get rid of it and use a pocket slip. It reminds me a bit of the Kershaw Federalist, a knife I love, and I believe this will fit in the same slip‽
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 5 дней назад
There are a lot of others who feel exactly the same way. That's why I like this type of pocket clip - it still looks great even if yoiu delete it. Yeah, the Federalist is very close in size to this guy, I think it would fit that size slip just fine.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 дней назад
That would be nice, but I have never heard of such an option, and anyway I am sure my narrow minded insurance provider would still call that income - and that would be counter productive to me.

Hi Jake. My friend, you are completely wrong about the way the clip is attached. This is the only way to reliably avoid play in the clip. If you use a screw, which of course will simplify the removal of the clip from the handle, but the inconsistency of the screw geometry will create play in the clip. At the same time, a pin with internal threads has a stable geometry and fixes the clip in the groove much more reliably. Sincerely, Ivan D. Braginets.

@CanadianCuttingEdge 4 часа назад
Hi Ivan. I VERY much like the overall knife design. Thanks for watching my review and leaving a great comment, but I think I am not incorrect "about the way the clip is attached". I think you mean that I am wrong about WHY it is made the way it is; I can readily admit that I could be wrong about the why of the construction and that my idea of a better way might not be better than the way RSK made it. The system employed to secure the clip definitely renders the clip reliably stable. Still, it makes it too much of an annoyance to change the clip to the opposite side. I am confident that many lefties who buy this knife will try to change the clip, but they will give up in frustration when they cannot even remove the clip in the first place. I am sure that many guys will remove both of the screws at that end of the handle, and in confusion about what to do next, will simply give up trying. Hopefully, some of them will see this video and choose to try again instead of getting rid of this wonderful knife. I have done teardowns on over 1500 knives in the last 10 years and not on even one other one was there a requirement to partially move a body pin (one that was stuck in place and not easy to move) just so that a pocket clip could even be removed in the first place. Therefore, I hope you can agree, at least, that that section of this video is helpful because it shows the uncommon step required to move the pin before it is possible to remove the pocket clip.

Good video! I really like slip joints but on this model the shoulder of the blade sticks out a bit too much when it's closed. Maybe a bit of nitpicking on my part though...
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 5 дней назад
The best part of the knife hobby is that you can be as nitpicky as you want and nobody can say you are wrong, it's just your preference. The second best part is that there are so many knives to choose from that you should be able to find what you like. If you like everything else about the knife, you can always use a file and get rid of the harpoon hump on the spine of that blade and make it more to your liking.
@jackekdahl395
@jackekdahl395 5 дней назад
Very true! But I meant that sharp angle near the pivot on the back of the blade where the jimping usually is. The harpoon point is fine by me. Best regards and thanks again!

Get some oil on that wood. Looks real dry
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 5 дней назад
It's actually not very dry, especially on the surface that has had my skin oil all over it, but I hear you - I just haven't decided exactly what type of wood oil/finish I want to use on it. I'll probably just use tung oil, but I might use my usual go to: Watco Butcher Block Oil & Finish
