Hi mate, firstly great channel and content, I've just purchased the insta 360 x4 and iam new to the action camera game, I want to get Mountain bike shots and just want to know which is the forward facing lens?is it the screen side or other, it may be a stupid question but all new to me. Thanks for any help
Hi thanks for the comment - not a stupid question at all, these cameras have a steep learning curve. The front facing lens is on the side with the screen also referred to as the inner lens. So the rear facing lens is the lens without the screen known also as the outer lens. Any other questions start a new comment because I don’t see replies. 👍
I wrote this totally the wrong way sorry - I’ve edited my comment - the front lens is the lens facing you with the screen as it’s in front of you and the rear lens is the screen facing away from you. Also referred to as inner (front) and outer (rear).
I think it will be within the next couple of years. Insta has 11k Timelapse on the X4 and before they brought out the X4 they introduced 8k Timelapse on the X3 so it does make you wonder whether the X5 will be 11k - wishful thinking maybe
Been watching a lot of these videos trying to see what is best for my needs. I am very interested in a 360 camera view. My main reason is filming my sons soccer games. I will have the camera on a tripod. I feel the 360 would be best due to its ability to cover the entire field. Is there one you'd recommend the most based on my need? Thanks
It has pros and cons - it’s ideal because you can see everything that’s going on and zoom in on any part of the match. The cons are that it is super wide, much wider than you think so a lot of the gameplay may look too far away so you will want to zoom in to follow the ball or get close ups of the action. This takes time and you’ll lose image quality. You will be recording a lot of footage which will take hours to reframe and export. If you can get someone else to edit and export then great otherwise expect to spend a long time editing. Hope this helps.
Planning to buy for my Kauai trip (boat ride on na pali coast) do you recommend? To view the mountains and can i use it under water with the invisible case ?
Yes it’s perfect as a travel camera - my main tip would be to shoot shorter clips 1 or 2 minutes max and this will make editing a lot easier. Yes you can buy an invisible dive case.
54 freaking euros for a small clamp?!? Is it made of gold or something? Even the Manfrotto Super Clamp, that is a industry standard and can handle much higher payload, costs like 20€ or something...
Very nice biking shots. It's the one use-case where I especially love a 360 camera. Although I still struggle to find better mounting options, because I prefer to have the camera on the hull, and not on the handlebar or the forks. (And my bike is shaped weirdly.) Anyway, I haven't tried an e-bike, but they are definitely getting more and more common. And I always feel a slight sting, when they breeze past me uphill! But the 25km/h limit makes sure that on flat road, I can take the lead again, ha!
I am on firmware 1.0.62 and I do not have the sharpness setting in settings under any video mode. perhaps you like to share with us what firmware version you are using.
I ride an electric trishaw for Cycling Without Age giving rides to the disabled and elderly. They have a walk assist where you can get off on steep places and walk up the hill with the bike. I wonder if that has the same.
No it doesn’t but that is a great idea, thanks for the comment. On this bike they would definitely have to tone the speed right back as even level one would be too powerful for walking. I had another bike that had a throttle so this would work well for this as you’d have more control over the intensity of the power. However in the UK the throttle is illegal to use so it doesn’t work.
I didn’t add anything for any of the shots and it secures solidly but can mark your frame. I then found two thick protective stickers on my bike when I was getting the cutaway shots - it was a bit late really but I stuck them on there. The problem is the clamp slips when you do this so I’m glad I didn’t use them when riding. I think some rubber sleeve might help but it almost needs to be a bit sticky so it doesn’t slip.
I have recently purchased an Insta360 X3. What is the ideal or basic configuration of mobile to edit videos via Insta360 app smoothly without hanging. I have redmi note 9 pro with 4gb ram, 64gb rom, CPU - octa core Max 2.32GHz, Android Version 12 which works with hiccups.
Cool ! Can you transfer directly to a latest gen phone videos from any SD card using the insta360 X4 USB quick reader ? Even if the videos come from the SD card of osmo pocket 3 for example ? (the app would not be needed there)
If it’s extremely white you may have dejected manual exposure accidentally so make sure you are in auto. If you are in auto and it’s just the clouds that are too bright then look for ev and adjust it to -0.5 or even -0.1 which will darken the auto exposure
Yes, I record internally using the 32-bit float and during the course of 50 takes with the X4, I have clap before or after recording and even then, I still have to nudge clips around trying to look for matching videos, it's just a mess. Do you always hardwire the RX into the Insta 360 X4? if so, that bulky setup might work great in vloggy scenario but, not in action scenario 'cos gravity, wind will just knock everything off.
Yes that makes sense as I use it for vlogging so I always hardwire it. The tricky bit is the fact you have to reframe the footage - you could reframe it and then export without audio. Then use adobe premiere to sync as this has an auto sync feature. A bit of a faff and might not be practical but can’t think of a workaround. You could reframe in adobe premiere and not the studio or in Davinci resolve using a third party plugin - not sure how good the syncing is in Davinci. It’s just worth looking at other softwares as syncing should be straightforward if the software is good and the frame rates all match.
@EatSleep360 you are quite correct. I can ship it to China for repair or to be thrown away and replaced. Either way, I lose what's on it and will not get another one in time for the holiday I bought it for.
How do you sync audio with this thing using the Timecode feature of the Rode Wireless Pro? I'm tired of having to clap before or after each take & then, nudging audio clips around in post production just to find their matching video clips.
If you’re connecting direct to camera you shouldn’t have any syncing issues or are you recording inside the mic and syncing after? Is the issue occurring in the app and the studio - interesting to know if it’s an edit software issue. I don’t think there’s a way of using the time code feature with the x4 as the x4 doesn’t generate any time code. If this issue is happening in the studio software I wonder if it’s recent. Be great if you could reply - if you start a new comment rather than press reply I will get notified or DM me if you prefer.
X4 is not really an action camera, lenses are easily get damaged specially for us mountain bikers and its expensive and time consuming to replace it. Good camera but not action cam.
@@CoolCoolCool89 im only using the x4 when shooting myself continuosly on tripod while jumping my bike and stuff but i don't mount it on myself cause the stabilization is horrible, nothing beats gopro.
Lens protectors exist... GoPro software sucks balls and you don't have 360 footage unless you get their 360 camera which has the same lens vulnerability issue.
From my experience with their previous camera it will probably be let down by the app even if it can deliver the quality images. I think GoPro have a chance with the Max2 but it will have to be something very special and by that time insta will probably be on the X6 - GoPro are taking forever.
