I don't globally believe in absolute black and white points in life, so I'm on the side where 98% of the thing could have good and bad in it simultaneously. The last 2% being for the very fews cases of having pleasure from doing evil stuff (like hurting child). Anyway I must admit this song quite encouraging you to do questionable things😅

after watching this movie, and psycho analysing this song, I'm actually full on believing that Ella did the prank, not Uliana and her gang. the lyrics towards the end "But just how far do you go? How much do you compromise? Oh, tell me, how do you know? Where do you draw the line? There's nothing I wouldn't do if my heart tells me it's right, If it's for someone I love, If it's to save a life." helps back up my theory, if Ella was willing to do anything for someone she loves (probably charming) and to save a life (Bridget??) and the book can only be opened by those with a pure heart (not the vk's duh!) then Ella might've been the one do to the prank if Chloe and Red didn't change the time line. Feel free to correct me or add something :)

i’m confused on why the song is problematic i guess i don’t think the song is saying everything is gray the song is basically saying yes there is right and wrong but sometimes they may overlap like it did literally in the story red a traumatized kid who to save everyone red had to steal the watch so she could have it to go back in time at the moment because mads wasn’t there and it’s just a book so i mean i don’t think that part is a big deal
@TheArtisticAloubell

When I listened to the song, it came off as trying to sell the idea that not only are there not legit absolute bad and good decisions that could be made, but that sometimes there are justifications for doing morally questionable/bad things. The song didn't emphasize enough when it's okay to cross a line or not and I think that's dangerous thinking. Overall, I understood what the song was attempting to teach, and I respect that, but I didn't like the execution. As for Red, we don't have the complete story yet, so we don't know if she'll end up regretting stealing the watch at some point. And it honestly seemed more like she stole it for herself than the people her mom terrorized. Sure, she ended up using the watch because of what her mom was doing to others, but stealing it had more selfish intentions. Again, I get why she did it, and I do feel bad about her whole situation, but let's not confuse her motivations here. And as for stealing the book, they really didn't need to even do that as I'm sure Merlin would have helped them out.

I think that giving the context of what Chole was questioning (should she help Red break in and steal) that song actually pretty good. I get that morality is complex and there are definite bad and definite good but since this movie is still targeted to kids, thankfully under normal circumstances most of them don’t know what k*lling or ass@ult are. Yes I know that in the movie Cinderella got beheaded but it wasn’t shown to us and Queen of Hearts was shown to be in the wrong. With Robin Hood, I think it’s one of these stories that are just so wildly known the explanation doesn’t really need to be there, and Robin Hood is a good argument but it’s a song and they can’t break down corruption and all that and again kids, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t known what that is. The line about following your heart is very Disney, is it necessarily right? No, not really, but it is very Disney and fairytale in general that if you stay true to yourself and always follow your heart things will turn out fine, and I think it is wishful thinking but then again, Disney/fairytale formula. Overall I think that Get Your Hands Dirty is pretty good as an introduction to the concept of choices being morally gray and I wouldn’t necessarily call it problematic as a whole. I understand overthinking (I am an overthinker) but sometimes analyzing the song from an adult perspective just isn’t worth it. It’s pretty clear what the message tried to convey without overcomplecating it and not all songs need to have an ideal message to be enjoyed, people enjoy villain songs and they sell us all the bad ideas.

@@zuza3377 I respect your view on things. But I personally couldn't help but be bothered when I first heard the song. It honestly just rubbed me the wrong way. I understand what they were going for and it's not a bad concept, I just didn't care for the execution. I don't think this song should get a pass the way that villain songs do. Villains are painted as obviously in the wrong, so we can feel free to enjoy their songs knowing they are wrong. But with a song like Get Your Hands Dirty, it is sung by a "good guy" and it is framed like that character is right in their thinking instead of the movie calling them out on some problematic thinking. That's more why I take issue with it. But hey, to each their own!

It's also hilarious to me that her mom in the past was so upset that Chloe got a reward for being a good person.. when it was clearly a complete surprise gift. I really hope they address this because they set it up that they have to (though I know just because they set it up that way they won't always address it) show why and how Cinderella changed her mind later on.

🧼 This song doesn't fit in this movie very well. Red is the only morally gray character in this film. The other villains are treated like black hearted monsters. Lady Tremaine, Uliana, and the Queen of Hearts are all pure evil. The fact that Bridgette got bullied in high school does not make all of her future murders morally complex.

Shadows of Gray rewrite of this song Title: Shadows of Gray (Verse 1) In the morning light, I see the lines, Right and wrong, they blur and intertwine, Cruel and kind, they dance a delicate waltz, Who’s to say where the truth takes its fault? (Pre-Chorus) Every choice we make, a path to unfold, In the heart of the storm, where the brave meet the bold, Oh, there's a whisper in the night, calling out my name, Telling me to search for the love, not the blame. (Chorus) In the shadows of gray, where the colors collide, We find the reasons, where the heart cannot hide, With every twist of fate, and every tear that we cry, There’s beauty in the struggle as the moments pass by. (Verse 2) There are rules for a reason, to help us define, The fragile threads that weave our lives intertwined, But in the depths of doubt, when the world feels so cold, There’s warmth in the chaos, a story to be told. (Pre-Chorus) So take my hand, we’ll walk this winding road, With a heart full of courage, we’ll lighten our load, Oh, there's a spark in the dark, igniting the flame, Teaching us to dance in a world that's untamed. (Chorus) In the shadows of gray, where the colors collide, We find the reasons, where the heart cannot hide, With every twist of fate, and every tear that we cry, There’s beauty in the struggle as the moments pass by. (Bridge) And though the path may twist, and the skies may fall, We rise from the ashes, we’ll conquer it all, With hope as our anchor, and love as our guide, In the vast array of life, we’ll stand side by side. (Chorus) In the shadows of gray, where the colors collide, We find the reasons, where the heart cannot hide, With every twist of fate, and every tear that we cry, There’s beauty in the struggle as the moments pass by. (Outro) So let’s embrace the gray, let’s cherish the days, In a world full of choices, we’ll find our own ways, For right and wrong may bend, but love’s here to stay, In the shadows of gray, we’ll learn to be brave.

Verse 1 In a world where right meets wrong, Cruel hands and kind hearts sing their song. Who’s to say what’s just or fair, In the dance of shadows, we tread with care. There’s a code that whispers to me, Every choice hides its own mystery. A hint of grey in the black and white, Searching for truth in the fading light. Chorus So let’s get our hands dirty, dive into the mess, Life’s a canvas splattered-give your worst, give your best. Bad or good, should or shouldn’t, it’s not always clear, There are universal truths that we must hold near. Verse 2 Like valiant knights with their noble quest, Fighting for justice, their hearts in protest. But who’s to judge what fights they’ve won, When the lines are blurred, and the battle’s begun? Creepy witches with their potions brewed, In their own way, could be misunderstood. They might have dreams, they might have a past, Isn’t it funny how perceptions can clash? Chorus So let’s get our hands dirty, dive into the mess, Life’s a canvas splattered-give your worst, give your best. Bad or good, should or shouldn’t, it’s not always clear, There are universal truths that we must hold near. Bridge If you’re good, they say good things will come, But the shattered vase tells stories undone. Life’s complicated, it’s messy and real, Can’t always keep it clean; that’s the deal. You’re a nice girl, but your princess is showing, Behind every smile, there’s a tempest flowing. Chorus So let’s get our hands dirty, dive into the mess, Life’s a canvas splattered-give your worst, give your best. Bad or good, should or shouldn’t, it’s not always clear, There are universal truths that we must hold near. Outro So here’s to the grey, where we learn to grow, Embracing the contrast, letting our colors flow. Right and wrong, cruel and kind, In this chaotic beauty, a new world we find. Another version

🧼Exploring the concept of morally grey actions in a fairy tale setting, which normally only has objectively right and objectively wrong actions, is actually a really interesting idea. However, this was not the way to do it. Instead of saying that there is no way to know what is right and wrong or that every action has shades of grey to it and that you should just do what feels right, I think that the characters should have been put into a situation in which there was seemingly no right answer and be forced to make a choice. Or maybe our characters can learn that sometimes, there can be more than one right answer and that others aren’t always the villain just because they do things differently than the heroes.

I feel like the reason they TRIED to give her not to tell the principal wasn't because he was a bad person that couldn't help them, but more like a "if he is a good guy, and a guy powerful enough to stop uliana, there gotta be a reason he couldn't do it in the first timeline, so we can't consider his help, he was here the last time bridget got transformed and bullied, and he couldn't help Bridget, why would he in the same time and place, being the same person" but they just put way more wholes on this stupid story, cos now the reason the villans got stopped, was because of something that merlin would be able to stop in the first time line and does not explain why in the first time line they werent stopped, cos they were stopped without the protagonist interfering at all

To my opinion, Descendants always had a running theme to prove you could be a rough around the edges and still be a good person. I guess they were trying to say that again with this song. That being said, I do understand your points. Sometimes it feels like being good just to be is a sign of weakness, and it's truly not a weakness. So in a way I guess it really depends on the situation, considering who's right or wrong. But that is my opinion.

TBH I haaaated this song. HATED. Sucks too because I think Ella's actress's voice is really nice! But yeah I thought the message was...just weird. It had the same vibes as the end of the movie. Like out of all things a young Cinderella would tell a girl she's just met, why would it be "doing bad things is on if it means you get a happily ever after." And what if Chloe was planning on something against Ella? I guess it may be foreshadowing to the fact that the prank has nothing to do with the Pink Bridget ----> Red Bridget storyline and has everything to do with the fact she felt some kind of betrayal to Ella choosing to go to the dance with Charming instead of her

In my opinion, it’s definitely okay to have a song like this as long as the rest of the movie rectifies it. However, I’m not sure whether or not that’s the case. Probably not, but it would be a cool story if the two characters both learned about this complex topic.

I agree. Especially because by following your heart 24/7 it can sometimes lead to situations like what happened to Ben, Mal, & Audrey (but worse). If there's an existing couple but one of them has a "heart that tells them" that they are meant to be with another person that they just met, that would negatively affect the existing relationship. Ofc, if it's a hypothetical person, I don't think it's wrong to end a relationship since sometimes you just know based on circumstances that your current relationship will only end in disaster if you force it but if you don't break up with them AND you find someone else (which could lead to cheating even if the people involved aren't necessarily at that level of familiarity), it's not okay.

On a surface level, i think the song is digestible enough. However I do agree with the problematic lyrics when you actually read them, as not everything is grey, just as not everything is black and white. When it comes to morality and the reasoning behind someone’s actions, this song does fall below the bar. Yeah it gets the general idea across, but the wording makes it confusing and feels more like Disney trying to justify their questionable choices (not just in the film industry)🧼 Great video as always, take the cookie and a warm glass of milk 😤🍪🥛

I also think that this song would make so much more sense if young Bridget sang it instead of Ella. The song itself justifies Bridget’s actions as an adult because by the song’s logic, it is okay to do bad things if you can see the “goodness” in your own actions. In Life is Sweeter, we already see that she kinda has a naive way of thinking. Bridget being shown to have this rhetoric before being “turned” evil by the prank could show the innate issue with this ideology which is that it’s SO EASY to use it to justify bad actions!

@BecauseICantEdit 12 часов назад
I get that this is going to be unpopular, but I don't think Robin Hood needs more context than "stealing from the rich to give to the poor" to be seen as morally right becuase the innate power dynamic of people who are POOR (ie living in poverty) co-existing with people who are filthy rich is unequal, unfair and exploititive. Yeah stealing isn't the ideal way to fix this but no system that makes rich and poor people is going to be fair enough to fix itself even in the long term. So really Robin Hood should have started a revolution. TLDR taking from the rich and giving to the poor is innately a good thing, so though Robin Hood would have done better to set up the wellfare state a few centiuaries early what he did was the next best thing so right regardless of context. (becuase systems where rich and poor exist basically just means the rich legally steallign from the poor)

I agree when listening to the lyrics I personally think they should make the descendants movies to be for mature audiences and be explicit if they can't explain things about the world and people in a kids and teens movie tbh. Bc it is very complex and complicated. Like not everything gotta be about kids/teen movies you know? Cuz sometimes they sneak in adult jokes in kids/teens movies and shows that the adults will notice that kids/teens won't. I get that they tried to make kids/teens to understand the world and such but the lyrics and messages they try to convey is very problematic as u said. Like I said I personally believe they should make these movies mature and explicit for young adults if they gonna write a song like this. The robin hood line is how i see this entire song. I can see how this song can be problematic but i dont see alot of the decendants songs as lesson for the veiwers but the overall story as the actual lesson. The true lesson for this franchise is you are not your parents, you are you and you only, you chose to be a good person or bad. Its like listening to ways to be wicked and thinking thats a lesson on be evil, its just a song for the characters story to progress, their Actions ARE the lessons the audience needs to focus on
