Labor rates are high because Real Estate prices are high. How one inflated market can destroy other markets. Corded electric is for occasional use., not battery operated. Batteries don't do well sitting around either. Lawn mower repair shops have been going out of business for a long time, Batteries aren't here to save us all.
You just described our shop and whats going on perfectly. My wife and I been running it for years and she has been the only help I could count on. But we to are feeling the stress and it's become harder to make it. Customers have become ruder also. It's just not enjoyable. anymore. We're both 58 and we want our life back lol an go fishing with the grand kids and like you said "not stroke out". Anyway we love your videos and will continue to watch them. We hate to see you close but at the end of the day we understand.
Wow 63? Enjoy your retirement. All the companies are trying to make worse cheaper products so they can sell a new mower every 5 years. Making the parts expensive and unobtainable is just another part of that.
A lot of the same stuff you're complaining about in the small engine world is happening in the car repair world, and I don't blame you one bit for getting out of it.
I put a comment up on another creators video, the video being about 3d printers and where someone can buy one, Amazon being number one place. The comment simply said"I hate Amazon." I get a notification everyday from someone asking why or assuming incorrectly my reason. Someone might as well order from wish.
hi, i have a question. i was takin ga run today and across the street from my run in one spot, i am pretty sure the white smoke looked like what you showed, probably a smokey motor with gas/oil. i was probably 50-80 feet away. and i had to walk thorugh it (as it was verywindey which pushed some of it across the street. is it toxic ? or should i be ok?
I would like to ask Taryl if he has any ideas on why my craftsman lt1000 mower drive belt keeps coming off? I replaced it with a new belt but it still comes off
Handy but using batteries for a while, the battery tools simply are not equivillants. Drills work well on the small screws, but try a chain saw. Not the same.
I had to do this. The first time it started slipping and squealing i pulled it out and cracked open the tranny, filled it with some atf and resealed it. Worked for about 5 years and now same thing. This time i just bought a new one.
China has a factory that makes the legitimate parts, but they steal the design and make cheap knockoffs in a lot of other factories and crap on our copyrights and trade secrets, etc
The Left is trying to force us into using electric (coal-powered) vehicles and equipment, just like they're trying to force who we're "allowed" to elect president.
My brother got one of those when the power went out in Texas from a big freeze and he had that thing turning way more rpm than it should have been. He had a heater and some lights hooked up. Not sure what he did to make it run that stuff but that thing sounded like it was going to blow up. Actually I think it did a couple hours after the lights came on but I think he did it on purpose. He probably had that thing running 10,000 rpm
Im glad you will be around. I have a craftsman dlt 25h its a gem and it will start only if while i engage the starter i choke it just for a second and she pops right over. Cant leave it on choke long at all. But then i can get it to run more smoothly if i tweak the choke a little. I have had this mower for 7 years used put together by a guy like you. Thing runs beautifully, and engine was rebuilt he was proud about putting 2 together to make it run burns no oil no oil on plugs at all. I just cleaned all contact's and was going to check the gaps on valves. But no sputter no backfire. And after ur rant on how hard it is to get parts i was thinking of getting new coils and do that soon. Great stuff
Use a Nutsert. I buy my epoxy putty from Pinch-a-penny to seal leaks underwater in my 1500 gallon fountain that is made of concrete. Wet your fingers to spread and feather the putty out before you paint if you wish.... Grease fittings are probably under them trailer type caps up front.......
"We don't do that...we calll you...with the phone...we pick up the phone and call you and we say hey, dol you want this done, do you want that done...do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?"" You're mental lol. I love it.
Love your videos very informative I'm getting ready to do this on a buddy of Mines mower. Now when it comes to those clips that are finicky tend to fall off could they possibly be glued in if you clean everything up and use a Hot Melt glue gun?
I'm in the business and Taryl is right: that cam release issue is a scourge. The only conclusion is that these companies are in a race to the bottom. All quality concerns are secondary. These companies spend more on marketing and "masculine curb appeal/appearance" (design issues) than they do on making quality parts. A new basic riding mower now costs the same as a budget used car and is made of the flimsiest possible materials and workmanship. But boy it looks cool so dad will buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's. And any warranties offered are nearly impossible to collect on after you read the fine print.
Even when you buy what you think is OEM, and it's packaged as such, it is STILL probably Chinccrap. I learned a long time ago that just because something from China looks good, it is probably made of substandard materials. They have absolutely no respect for patents or quality control. Ross Perot warned us, Clinton screwed us. What Taryl is describing is happening throughout every single industry. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc. I replaced a hose bib valve on the house my Dad built in 1948 two years ago. It lasted one year then the lever broke off. The original installed in 1948 lasted up till then. It has become impossible for any business to run profitably when they are plagued with comebacks because of failed, crappy parts.
