My son has a rare VX55 pre-production model. I never understood why no manufacturer rather than having two useless forward facing rear coupe seats instead had one usable seat facing sideways from the passenger side to the driver side, BTW the slot in the arm rest is where you can insert the key.

Great review, as usual! And with a very well spec'ed M2 Competition, with the automatic high beam button on the indicators stalk as well as the heated steering wheel, plus all the rest. Well done! I also like the button to adjust the gear changes, and the bottom of the gear selector. I didn't know that the adaptive suspension was optional on M2 Competition.

Maybe be worth for me to say that I've owned an E93 335i pre-LCI, with the N54 engine, which was very good too. A full twin turbo engine, while the N55 is twin scroll turbo charged, and with the fantastic ZF 6-speed. But this E93 335i LCI, with the N55 engine, is about 10% more fuel efficient and with the DCT 7-speed it's a bit more eager to accelerate. And like you said, the M-Sport package is fully worth it, especially in regards to the seats.

I have the 6 speed ZF in my XF, it is a bit lazy in normal driving but stick it in sport or dynamic mode or both if you're brave and hold on! The 8 speed with a decent engine size should be lovely safe not have to hunt too much. The only thing that stops me getting an XK is that the XF is a fine handling car without the compromise of the XK. It's a GT Saloon if there is such a thing.

Replacing the 17" 205 runflats with 17" 215 non-runflats also made huge improvements, in comfort and in being more quiet, as well as a bit more grippy around corners.

And I agree with you, cars like this would benefit from a bit more leather over the dashboard, although the quality of the plastic is quite good, so not a big miss. Loving your E-Type and XK Paul. The camera used for filming this really accentuates certain noises and when I watched this section it really sounded quite terrible. In reality, as you are no doubt aware, the action is far more ‘solid’ than the recording implies. Having said that, I believe Sir William Lyons encouraged steering your jaguar using only your forefinger and thumb, a habit I developed from my very first Jaguar, a 73’ Series 1 XJ6 4.2 SWB manual overdrive. I still drive this way today conditions allowing. Point is, there is a finesse to driving Jaguar’s in ‘the manner they are accustomed to’ which comes directly from its heritage and creator. In a world of plug and play, instant response, instant reward, discard after-five-years mentality, operating controls with subtlety may no longer be the norm. Personally ‘finessing’ my driving with minimal input, smooth actions, with a ‘slow-in fast-out’ methodology brings me much satisfaction. Whether its running to the shops or piloting down a B road, I just love it. Thanks again Maz500!

The exhausts aren't quieter on later models unless you mean 2019+ due to the GPF in the catalytic converters. Pre 2019 the only thing that quietens the exhaust is the software update which came out around 2018-19 and has been applied to so many cars that have gone into the dealership. People beg the dealer not to apply it but sometimes they ignore/forget. The update is to close exhaust valves pre 4000rpm, lower the fuel into the exhaust for the pops and increase the life of the catalytic converters and O2 sensors in the process. I might be driving one of these v8s on the weekend which has the GPF and likely also with the software update so I'll see how it sounds compared to the v6 I drove last year.
@maz500

Yes, I mean 2018/19+, as seen on the P450 V8 75 that I reviewed. It's not unique to JLR, all other manufacturers had to quieten their exhausts too
