I am a hobby astronom (www.himmelwarte.ch) and I am interested in steam plants, locomotives and steam boats and japanese culture.
Steam engines behave differently in big plants compared to the table top versions. Here I try to give you insights in the behaviour of the various engines, exspecially driving my selfmade two seated steam boat AMPHORA. I will discuss safety aspects, maintenance tricks and some of my inventions.
Various restorations such of a Walter Kolb locomotive , ME Beam Reeves, Stuart 5A, Stuart 4 Twin, Southworth 12 inch Steam Pump, or design of a Steam Turbine Power Generator, are an integral part of several designed steam engine plants.

isn't showing the pressure gauge part of it? which sometimes seems so very low. the boiler should be allowed to rise to operating pressure and then heat the motors and the rest so there is enough steam when the water is hotter
Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, es ist nicht leicht Kohle zu zerkleinern. Viele gute Anregungen habe ich mitgenommen. Ich habe 1 Zentner Antrazitkohle aus Ibbenbüren nuss 5 = 10-6 mm gebunkert. small track was deceiving, what a big loco, the heavy wok for stability seems fine, it catching water might be a problem, does it go in a train shed ? no automation like hitting the bumper makes it start turning ? but getting it to stop aligned might be a small problem.
thank you for your comment. I drilled a hole in the bottom (not shown in this video ;-) ) to allow the draining of water out of the wok... the wok/turntable will be placed in a bed of stones levelled to the main track outdoor not in a shed...
Hi Christopher! I'm so happy I found this video- I recently acquired a unit - but now the motor just whines and hums, the bumpers don't work anymore, and the chasing lights in the middle don't happen either. I was watching your other teardown video- so I'm hoping possibly you have an idea of what I might be able to do to fix it? Love the unit a ton. Perhaps we can talk! I was trying to get into the plastic cover- however- I didn't know how to remove it. Thanks a ton!
Es ist schön mitzuerleben, wie sich im typischen Bahnland eins zum anderen gesellt. Mir schwant, bald wird es im Garten Erdarbeiten geben. Vorausgesetzt die eidgenössische Bundesgemeinschaft stimmt zu, wird wohl eine neue Infrastruktur entstehen, um das Niemansland für die Dampfbahn erschließen. Viele Grüße, Henry
Very cool. I have one older engine wherein the site glass is difficult to see because of its size and location in the cab. I’ll have to try this mod on that engine.

It is a two tube design I developed during my vacation in greece at the beach (a bit boring only sun)... see this special video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WBVqkxo2ceM.htmlOne bigger big brass tube contains a smaller brass tube with wholes at the bottom (they are silver soldered to a brass base plate).... the water runs from the top into the center One which contains special fabrics which binds oil as a filter and the water flows at the bottom of the center One to the outer tube where it goes finally back to the hot sink... the fabric is taken out after a while and may be burned in the coal fire... To your first Question where to by phosphate or soda... unfortunately I cannot open this questio or read it fully... please ask again sorry ;)
Wenn es einer kohlegefeuerten Kolb-Lok zu gut geht -- dann geht sie nicht etwa auf`s Eis - nein sie gibt einen Empfang auf edlen Parket. Christoph, da hast Du der Lok eine Aura gegeben, die ihr woh und zu recht auch zusteht. Grüße von den neidisch dareinblickenden Lokführen der BKB
Sofort kommen mir die Geschichten um die mystischen Lagerfeuer meiner Jugend in den Sinn. Das Kokeln ist bei mir auch tief verwurzelt. Als ich einst davon las, wie der weise Stephane Grapelli in seinem Pariser Domizeil, einem Hotel, Django Reinhardt nicht davon abhalten konnte, im Wohnzimmer ein kleines Lagerfeuer anzuzünden - ich konnte das nie wieder vergessen... Heute habe ich nicht nur in der Küche einen großen offenen Kamin, sondern auch einen im Gartenhaus und auch einen für die lauen Nächte im Garten davor. Rauchige Grüße aus dem Norden, Henry

Guten Morgen Christoph, ich sehe, langsam wächst eine Umgebung zur Versorgung der Lok. Ich würde tippen, auf dem freien Platz daneben kommt ein Rundpfosten mit Drehkranz und Galgen als Kurbelaufzug für die Bekohlung... Viele Grüße, Henry
danke Henry, ich habe mit 18 Jahren solche Radstände in Brandenburg (damals DDR) (mit Freuenden und Tages-Visum) morgens um 4 Uhr bei minus 15 Grad fotografiert, da gab es keine Handwärmer etc. sondern Slivowitz :-)))) man war der schlecht und uns danach!!!
This looks like it could be really interesting, but without audio we're relying on the text, and that strange typeface, in all yellow with very poor contrast, is impossible to read, so I've very little idea what's going on.
Adam no problem, what is your question I may help you in this chat... you print the text on a laser printer on glossy paper in reverse mirror style, than you cut the printed paper out and tape the inverted text print on a piece of brass, than you iron it from the paper site with highest temperature for at least 2 minutes down to the brass. Let it cool down and drop it in water with some dish washer detergent. rub careful the soaked paper with your finger and a brush away. Paint the back of the brass with some color to prevent the etching from the backsite. Place the printed brass in minimal amount of water and add the Fe-III-Chlorid etching reagent (wear glasses and gloves!!!) Waith for hours at room temperature or warm it even up to 30 degrees to speed up the process and check time by time the process of the etching on the surface to see if the 3D pattern is formed. I leave it even sometime over night at room temperature. Stop the process by changing to clean water and wipe the colores and laserprint pattern with aceton away. Sand it with highest grain 600 or even polish afterwards... The lower metal levels etched deep into the brass may be filled by thinned paint or darkened by selected (Brünierung/german word)... Done and I hope it help you kind regards Christoph
@@The123pcr you've just redefined "over and above expectations" - thank you!! Meanwhile, the easy way to maximize readability (at the expense of aesthetics) is to use a sans-serif body (not display) font, you've got the size about right, go with fairly dark colour (black is easiest) but add a 1px white outline so the eye can pick it out no matter the background. If your tools can do it (rare) the 1px outline can be an XOR or NOT of the background, or even a custom gradient map - that makes the outline much more pleasing but is a @#$!-load of work. This is an area where art and function are directly opposed. Or just do it white-on-black at the bottom like closed-captioning. I never thought I'd say this in this life, but some of the TTS (text to speech, aka "AI voice") engines are now reasonably good and could be used here. Actually... you could just do a literal CC track, and add a splash screen at the start letting viewers know, then the appearance is under the, er, "listener's" control. I have a hearing impairment and a particular interest in typefaces - I've spent a LOT of time thinking about and working on different modalities of information presentation, hopefully something in here was helpful.
Beautiful tone. I’ve just ordered a practice chanter from you. An absolute cracker with imitation ivory between the bowl and the ferule. I’m getting back to piping after 20 years. I have an old Henderson practice chanter but I’m treating myself. I still have my 1st World War R G Lawries which I’m going to get refurbished.
Ja danke ;-) Gute Frage, ganz einfach, der Stellhebel (1.6 mm Loch im Gestänge) wird über den Schwingarm gesteckt (1,6 mm Stahlstift im Schwingarm fest nach oben stehend (4mm hoch)). Da geht nichts raus denn von oben liegt satt der Deckel drauf, kein entkommen des Gestänges. Nur so kann ich alles verbinden, denn auch das Dampfeifenventilgestänge muss ja, allerdings direkt am Servo verschraubt werden, geht alles erstaunlich gut, vielleicht etwas fummelig.
Ja, sauber und fix gebaut. Wie ich sehe, das Wohlfühlprogramm für die umsorgte Kolb-Lok geht in ene neue Runde. Ich hab Angst, das meine Kolbloks jetzt auch so einen tollen Wasserwagen haben wollen. Wenn sie das sehen, kann ich meinen alten Wasserwagen gleich neu Lackieren... Grüße von der BKB, Henry

@@The123pcr Ja gerne, ich freue mich darüber. Ich hatte durchsichtigen Silikonschlauch genommen um die Funktion des Durchflusses zu sehen. Da kann jede Luftblase bei dem geringen Wasserdruck ein Hindernis sein. Ich puste manchmal in der Tankwagen, um den Durchfluss zu steigern und löse vorher hnter der Dampfspiesepumge die Scbraubverbindung und warte das es dort heraus spritzt. Dann läuft es super.
