Great video thanks for the detailed clarifications, it helped me a lot. i have a question if you care to answer. I'm a little confused about the mastery stacking to the teeth, is it because of the holy damage it provides? for example at 53% mastery it says my judgement has 60% chance to do additional damage and with the talent "Boundless judgement" it gives another 50% chance to proc so I'm already procing the judgement damage on every cast right? or maybe there is something i am misunderstanding about the talents/mastery relations?

I just realized without the "boundless judgement" talent i get 40% chance on my mastery. does it also mean further in the expansion when we can stack appropriate mastery we can switch to "improved judgement" for more procs?

Thanks for watching and the nice words! And great questions. I do believe the additional 50% is meaning 50% of your current chance (so an additional 20% on your 40%, giving you the 60%) rather than 50% PLUS your chance, if that makes sense. For mastery, as with in the past it does buff our holy damage, which is basically everything, but now the added mastery damage proc and application to other talents increases the value greatly. I don’t generally believe in stacking fully into one stat and I know a lot of places like WoWhead do like to say Mastery and then everything else equal, but haste is important for HP generation and reducing downtime. Right now, i believe I have about 7k mastery, 6k haste, and around 4k crit/vers, but that is also reflecting my Blue Silken Lining x2. That does have me 80%+ chance to proc mastery. Ideally, I think I’d get a little more balance into vers/crit, but I do think it was feeling quite nice.

As for improved/boundless judgement, that’s a great point. I am leaning toward sticking with Boundless judgement, because of the additional HP generation combined with the proc bonus. With Highlord’s Wrath, we really don’t have to worry about maintaining the judgement dam buff, but I didn’t consider how more judgement casts would compare on the damage profile, especially as we get into later season stat levels.

Sorry! Just saw this comment now. I actually go over a lot of the addons/weakauras I use in my part 2 video and include links in the description as well! Hope this helps :)

I'm a tank and never played Ret before, but since I got the Legendary I felt that I should give it a try, this video and the way you explained everything was very helpful, I appreciate the time you put into this guide thank you so much.

Oh wow thank YOU so much! I actually started as prot on this character way back in Cata, and only switched to ret with the rework. Super glad to hear I could help you out!

When do you use ammer of Wrath? thank you!!
@DeyrFe
@DeyrFe 5 месяцев назад
Great question! Sorry I didn’t make that clear enough. Hammer of Wrath is actually quite strong. It’s a guaranteed crit and, therefore, a guaranteed aoe spiraling hammer from our Adjudication talent. When I know it will be usable, I try to make sure I use Blade of Justice at least once to keep charges recharging and apply Judgement, then I use Hammer of Wrath on cooldown to generate Holy Power between spenders. Ideally, I want to work it in enough to keep everything on cooldown or recharging at least one charge. I’ll try to remember to pull up some Details reports to see a damage breakdown throughout a dungeon. If it would be helpful, I may actually try to do some testing and put together a short about this.

These kinds of events that encourage people to try the game in a new way are awesome and I really found some lost love for the class. Season 4, season of feral? :P Would anybody be interested in videos or streams about learning more about feral, or possibly a guide video like I've done for retribution?

A lot of people. WoW is notoriously bad at communicating information to the player, so a lot of people are never made aware of a lot of key elements or don't have the experience to think of all the things you can do. Nothing wrong with wanting to learn a class or how to improve. If you're not one of those people, more power to ya.

Thank you! Hope you enjoy and get some good info out of it. Let me know if you'd like more details on anything. Thinking of doing some "quick tip" shorts for ret and general m+, once I can come up with a decent list of ideas.

Great video. Really new player but you make things very easy to understand. An ad on video would be great. What is that sound that lets you know to use blessing of freedom? Again thank you so much!

Much appreciated! Welcome to WoW. I will definitely touch on some addons in the next part. You actually reminded me of one I hadn't yet noted in my list, however, so thank you for that. I'll double check, but I believe the addon you are hearing is called GTFO, which pretty much just plays sounds whenever you are standing in bad stuff, so that you know to, well... gtfo. The sound can be changed for different levels of badness and urgency. So the sound is notifying me that I am standing in entangling, which slows me down. If you stand in entangling for too long, it stuns you, so eventually the sound gets more aggressive. But because I know that sound is cause by entangling, that tells me to cast Freedom asap.

Nice Guide.. The trinket accelerated sand glass is very under the radar trinket... It's one of my favs with Aug.... until I get Ashes... Sandglass will be in there for sure... sick haste build and since its out main stat.. people are sleeping on this one....

Interesting! I only got the trinket at a low quality track early on and then lucked out in vault with hero Branch and myth Augury and Rezan's Eye, so I haven't done much trinket testing since. I've been really crossing my fingers for a myth Ember of Nullification, since I don't have a mythic raid group to get Ashes. Maybe I'll start running for a hero version to test that out too.

Thanks for the feedback. While I think too much information is better than not enough, as someone with ADHD (wow player with adhd? who knew) I can definitely be rambly. What would you like more or less focus on? I am working on planning the second part right now, and certainly a more outlined plan is the goal this time.

Thanks! I use ElvUI, and started with Quazii’s minimalist tank/dps profile that I then fine tuned to my own liking and mixed with some others. He has a video with links to all his profiles as well as class specific weakauras that I found very helpful. I’ll cover a bit more ui stuff in the second part that I’m working on.

Appreciate you going over things in baby steps. So many guides just say "this is the rotation..." and start spamming keys. They don't take into consideration that most people looking to learn a class are very new to it and don't understand the "jigsaw" part of it (i.e. how things fit/work together) so don't yet know what most of what they're saying means. I've been thinking about checking out Ret, so having something geared to a newcomer is much more helpful! Thanks!!
@DeyrFe

Absolutely! Thanks for the awesome feedback. I’m so glad my rambling scatter brain didn’t take away from that haha I only went back to my pally last year after the rework, and found plenty of info on builds, rotations, stats/gems, but have always found it difficult to find out the “why” when learning new classes. I’m not the best, I still find myself even learning and improving as I went further in depth for this video. But knowing why something is good or bad is so much more useful than a list of buttons to press. It’s a long work week for me, but hoping to get into part two this weekend, tackling affixes, dungeon mechs and how to intuitively figure out future seasons, and other ways to use utility. If there’s anything you’d like some insight on, related to those or not, please ask! I’ll do my best to help, if I can.
