Appreciate you going over things in baby steps. So many guides just say "this is the rotation..." and start spamming keys. They don't take into consideration that most people looking to learn a class are very new to it and don't understand the "jigsaw" part of it (i.e. how things fit/work together) so don't yet know what most of what they're saying means. I've been thinking about checking out Ret, so having something geared to a newcomer is much more helpful! Thanks!!
Absolutely! Thanks for the awesome feedback. I’m so glad my rambling scatter brain didn’t take away from that haha I only went back to my pally last year after the rework, and found plenty of info on builds, rotations, stats/gems, but have always found it difficult to find out the “why” when learning new classes. I’m not the best, I still find myself even learning and improving as I went further in depth for this video. But knowing why something is good or bad is so much more useful than a list of buttons to press. It’s a long work week for me, but hoping to get into part two this weekend, tackling affixes, dungeon mechs and how to intuitively figure out future seasons, and other ways to use utility. If there’s anything you’d like some insight on, related to those or not, please ask! I’ll do my best to help, if I can.
Played Prot from BC until Legion. Just came back a few months ago and picked up ret. I’ll click on any guide just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Great video dude! Got a sub from me 🤓🤙
I'm a tank and never played Ret before, but since I got the Legendary I felt that I should give it a try, this video and the way you explained everything was very helpful, I appreciate the time you put into this guide thank you so much.
Oh wow thank YOU so much! I actually started as prot on this character way back in Cata, and only switched to ret with the rework. Super glad to hear I could help you out!
Glad you enjoyed it! So, I did some recording for part 2... and then hated it. Haha reassessing to make sure I give the most helpful info I can, but hopefully without too much delay.
Nice Guide.. The trinket accelerated sand glass is very under the radar trinket... It's one of my favs with Aug.... until I get Ashes... Sandglass will be in there for sure... sick haste build and since its out main stat.. people are sleeping on this one....
Interesting! I only got the trinket at a low quality track early on and then lucked out in vault with hero Branch and myth Augury and Rezan's Eye, so I haven't done much trinket testing since. I've been really crossing my fingers for a myth Ember of Nullification, since I don't have a mythic raid group to get Ashes. Maybe I'll start running for a hero version to test that out too.
Thanks! I use ElvUI, and started with Quazii’s minimalist tank/dps profile that I then fine tuned to my own liking and mixed with some others. He has a video with links to all his profiles as well as class specific weakauras that I found very helpful. I’ll cover a bit more ui stuff in the second part that I’m working on.
Great question! Sorry I didn’t make that clear enough. Hammer of Wrath is actually quite strong. It’s a guaranteed crit and, therefore, a guaranteed aoe spiraling hammer from our Adjudication talent. When I know it will be usable, I try to make sure I use Blade of Justice at least once to keep charges recharging and apply Judgement, then I use Hammer of Wrath on cooldown to generate Holy Power between spenders. Ideally, I want to work it in enough to keep everything on cooldown or recharging at least one charge. I’ll try to remember to pull up some Details reports to see a damage breakdown throughout a dungeon. If it would be helpful, I may actually try to do some testing and put together a short about this.
Sorry! Just saw this comment now. I actually go over a lot of the addons/weakauras I use in my part 2 video and include links in the description as well! Hope this helps :)
Thanks for the feedback. While I think too much information is better than not enough, as someone with ADHD (wow player with adhd? who knew) I can definitely be rambly. What would you like more or less focus on? I am working on planning the second part right now, and certainly a more outlined plan is the goal this time.
