Having enjoyed the vast possibility of fishing in Australia, I found myself disappointed with the lack of fly fishing spots in Singapore. You could almost say that it is illegal to fly fish within our small island.
Hence, I began to explore other options like Bait Finese (BFS). One thing led to another, but I've managed to use my fly tying know-how to get into Jig Flies.
Not the most exact replacement for fly fishing, but it has been fun.
Take us fishing with you since you have a go pro now , make some new vids really enjoying them been getting into making my own bfs baitcaster baits learned a lot from you
Thanks for mentioning which end of the hackle is tied down. I’ve been trying a long time, and your comment about tying down the correct end of the hackle makes a big difference in how things come out!👍👍

I've been using cal's grease (or any lithium based grease..bike grease works too) on old style drags and also now carbon drags and its great. You lose about 10% drag power but gain at least 50% on smooth drag. And that is where all leaders break...jerky drag.

Hello my friend , can you make a video explaining how to use this reel..? I mean this has 2 speed and autoshift features that I don’t understand... thanks a lot.
I had never thought about or considered synchronizing the level wind with the line on the spool. Great tip. I have only been bait casting Abu Gracias for 50 years. Some guys like me are a little slow. Thanks for the videos.
I do not put grease on to abu original drag elements because it will decrease its power. That drag elements very smooth by its own. I polish the metal drag plate (3 of them including top cover) and the inner side of main gear using dremmel tool and and Fabulustre or other polishing paste to increase it power but DO NOT put grease. Strange but true as long as you not put a grease or oil on that drag elements. And if your line getting birdnest and you heard a rattle of the brake blocks during casting, that the time you need to clean the brake drum (the part that the brake block touch) and also clean the brake blocks with lighter fluid. I polish the drum part with dremmel tool and Fubulaustre polish agent to make braking more linear. The sound of clean smooth brake should be like buzzing or something like that, not rattling sound. Over the time, grease from bottom of spinning pinnion gear will contiminated the tip of brake block and brake drum. If that parts is clean with lighter fluid, you will get consistance range of casting and no more birdnest and fewer thumbing to prevent birdnest.
Always like to see how long long the spool spins by pushing the spool hard with your thumb. Like to video a before and after the tune up. Usually the results are dramatic!
I just purchased a reel like the one in your video. I am familiar with how to set the drag but, What is the function of the autoshift speed winch, please? And how is it set?
I have been following your channel for a while. Thank you so much for sharing and it is very inspiring to me. I have tried your jighead flies for BFS with limited success at our reservoirs - it must be my lack of skill. But I gave your spin fly suggestion a spin😂. Loaded a long spin rod with a floating bombarda and a woolly bugger and caught so many fish I could not believe it. Maybe the fly fishermen are correct after all…😅
Glad that it’s working out for you! My fishing buddies are also finding great success helping me test this pattern. I find that a bombarda is more stealthy on the water versus a normal float or sinker, allowing me to move the fly in a more delicate way much like i do in fly fishing. Thanks for your encouraging comment!
Very nice. Here in Hawaii we do the same method of fishing, using a float, or slow sinking...to get the flies out. We try for the juvenile GT (Papio-under 10 lbs).and even GT (Ulua-Over 10lbs) we make flies like the surf candy. More popular is the round or oblong epoxy head. This link is my friends YT channel, it shows one of the ways we get the flies out. You can see the popular Epoxy flies in different shapes, maybe you can get different ideas. I'm new to fly tying, do you know the material used that keeps it's shape (wide profile) in the water? Thanks for your video!
Thanks for your nice comment! There are several ways to make material stand upwards on the hook. One easy method is Reverse Tying - RU-vid has many videos on this method. With this method you can tie a good herring pattern for GT. Thanks for watching!
On an older model of abu ambassadeur, the drag should be free from grease. The drag elements were smooth and strong without grease. In fact you can increase it power by polishing the two metal disc on drag ass. plus one in top to mirror finish and put it back WITHOUT grease.
