The diesel vanagon is so weird, we never got them in Australia. They would have been great. I would have tried to bend the pipes instead of all those joins.
What the what, the blue hole is a must do cold plunge. Headed to NM in a week and a half can't wait to see my mountains. I grew up 18 miles south of Angel Fire and my family is still there.
Can you share who did your wiring and ECU reprogram? I’m upgrading my 1.6 diesel Doka to an ALH TDI. I get to do a 15degree swap because of the Doka raised bed area. I like your simple explanations.
There's a few guys on the Facebook page "TDI Swaps" that build them. If you join and inquire they'll reach out to you. I'm not sure if I should put his name or contact info on here 🤷
I'm sorry but it's not gonna work. There's no airflow in that area the fan will help but you won't notice any cooler air gains. The only real way to go is a water to air cooler
Your probably right, I'll eventually get an intake air temp sensor to see what it's running. I think with the fan and a scoop under the van I should have good enough airflow for a stock alh 🙏
@@TinCupOutdoorsyes, the current project is a 3800 Supercharged Pontiac Fiero conversion, it's in the home-stretch. Then a 1985 Westfalia Vanagon will be completed. I'll be posting some videos later this year.
I enjoy your videos. What kind of mileage do you get? Does it have the stock gear ratio's? I have a 2002 golf ALH and I'm wanting to put it into an 85 tin top. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice spot and view and that first place. I love to see your van and family. Loved seeing your son on the bike in the puddle. He knows how to live the good life.
Had two of these T25/T3/Vanagons. A 1.9TD AAZ Diesel, and a 1.9 DG Petrol. This series is making me miss them both. Had a lot of fun driving them around Wales. Great work machining all those parts yourself! Subbed.
Lots of Vanagon renovation videos on this site. Where are you people digging up all these old VW's? Pity VW doesn't make innovative/usuable/affordable vehicles like the Westphalia/Vanagons anymore instead of competing with the Japanese sedans/pocket rockets!
Luckily the old VWs are still out there, the price is definitely going up though 😢 Looks like VW is trying to get back into it with the ID BUZ, but I don't think it'll have the same draw as the classic vanagon!
If you want to do a less expensive rear disc conversion, check out epytec. I used them for my conversion (video isn’t quite done yet), but I posted it in my build thread on the top of page 4. Google “Olis 1981 VW vanagon tdi Build” and go to page 4 for the links to the kit and to another samba thread of a guy who did it. Also feel free to reach out via email if you have questions. Looks good as always!
@@TinCupOutdoors I went with the smaller size because otherwise the rear brakes would’ve been almost as large as the front. It’s a good kit and saves some money. Figured I’d throw out another option for you. Keep the work going. I love the series!!
Wouldn’t it be great if the only item to make the swap was that $170 input shaft ? Redundant , I know , but this guy’s knowledge/ability is sooo beyond most that I’m far too hella intimidated within the first 30secs of the video … that I’d only attempt this if all of the troubleshooting and mods AND modified parts , etc. had already been done and were sitting in my shop. Lol , and maybe an 8-part paint-by-numbers step-by-step video series to hold my hand throughout . I’m impressed .
Thanks! Ive been putting alot of time into this van to be ready for spring camping. Are you in oklahoma? I'd definitely buy it off you for one of these vans!
Unfortunately no, anything that wasent metal melted into nothing. I'm assuming one of the oem plastic fuel fittings cracked. Owner replaced all fuel lines months before fire
That 72 is ready for anything from the looks of it. Cold up here in Kansas too. I tried to heat up my vanagon with a mr buddy heater and it was still chilly in there. Gave up and went inside lol
It took a while of heating till it was warm, the extra insulation probably does it. Yeah It was even colder up there, these poor vans are waiting for warmer weather!
@bugmeister404 yeah it's a SMF. No noticeable roughness when running. I think the SMF does beat up the trans more though. I'll be posting another video soon with a DMF on another tdi van
