I don't understand why you can't just plant them, am I wrong or can I plant them whenever I want in the summer as long as you realize that you won't get flowers that year ¿ Or does it somehow kill them because they will try to flower and not store nutrients for the spring? I don't care about flowers this year I just want to get them planted!
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 11 дней назад
You can plant then anytime, I was just showing when is a good time. I have planted them at the end of July and they still flower sometimes before the end of the year. But even if they do not flower they will grow and then flower next year. So yes just plant them. They are my favourite flower. Watch out for the red lily beetle and they drop down when they sense you removing them so catch them from underneath. Also they lay black marks and that is the new lily so put on a glove and just brush over the leaves to remove them without pesticides. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info,i have bought now lots of lilie bulbs on half of the price and was wondering should i wait till autumn to put them into the ground or is it also possible to plant them in july(when i get home where i want to plant them)will they survive during the hot summer in the ground?...So just as you said i hope they will come out with a green stem and then still collect the power to survive the winter in the ground👍
@dianelloyd2469

PUt them in now. I have just planted some in May and they are coming up. I also plant some mid august but they tend to not flower. HOwever last August a lily called Eyeliner which is white with a black line around did flower! If its hot and dry just water them or start them in pots for year one and you can easily water them. Even if they do not flower this year they will flower next year.

If you get a 1 gallon new Ceanothus plant in pot do you, or can you shape it into a tree right away. Like bonsai before or after you plant it. If you want to make it a small tree?
@dianelloyd2469
@dianelloyd2469 3 месяца назад
Yes you could shape it. Best time to do it is as soon as its flowered as it flowers on last years growth. Do not shape it too much, clip it with shears into the shape you want. Keep doing it each year after its flowered to keep it in the shape you want.

Mine is this large in Spring already. No yellow. And it’s seeding. It seeded in the fall too so I’m a tad confused. Mine is in a pot. I feed it often. It’s about 5ft tall. It’s beautiful
@dianelloyd2469
@dianelloyd2469 4 месяца назад
Hi there. We would recommend not growing it in a pot unless I had to and would recommend the biggest pot you can find. We did try growing asparagus in a pot once and it did not work for us. For each Asaparagus crown it would need to be 2 foot in diameter at least. Can we ask a few questions, how old is the asparagus crown? We cut nothing from ours for the first 3 years in terms of the asparagus shoots itself. Did you cut shoots when they first started to appear at around six inches to eat? When the plant is as tall as you suggest it is not time to cut and eat and as you say it has gone to seed but this is not a bad thing as the leaves on the stalks will be feeding the crown for next year. We cut the stalks down when they go brown and wait until the following late spring in England to harvest the new shoots.

I have two honeysuckles, in my last house I had one growing up and over a pergola, every 3 years I hard pruned it down to about 12 inches to the ground to rejuvenate it and it buds at the bottom from that point otherwise it gets too leggy and you get all the flowers at the top and none at the bottom.

@dianelloyd2469
@dianelloyd2469 2 года назад
That is really poor. We always buy our bulbs from an online bulb supplier which we have found are better than garden centres. Did you buy all 500 of the same colour? We do not buy mixed bags of colours as we find they are not as good as single bags. Often if they do not come up it is non viability of the bulb. Other issues are that they do like alot of water in the summer but in the winter if its too wet they rot so that is why we grow them in pots. The ones we put in the ground are not as reliable as the ones we grow in pots.

Nice to hear from you. Yes I would recommend the following and I have put them into colour combinations. For white combination I would choose Purissima and Spring Green. To go with them I sometimes put Apricot Beauty. Then I would consider a purple and orange mix so I choose Black Hero and Ballerina. I have found Ballerina to come up the most consistently. Other ones that are perennial are Unique de France and Mariette and also one called Dolls Minuet which has a very unique shape.

@dianelloyd2469 3 года назад
Dear Alan you will know from our videos that we are suburban gardeners who are just laying small paths around our garden from old bricks. So for us we will simply relay them and its fine if its a bit wobbly! We are not doing large landscape areas. It would be lovely if you sent me a link to a video if you make one on how you might lay them on other materials and I could put a link to the webpage. Thanks for your comment. The Lloyds

@@dianelloyd2469 hi Diane I’ve not watched any of your other video’s but am concerned that your efforts will be in vain if or when it all sinks as it’s just been laid on soil. I’m a builder by trade but don’t have links to videos. I would recommend digging a trench and laying crusher run or limestone Chippings then compacting them before laying a 50mm bed of compacted sharp sand. This then gives you a firm base on which to lay your bricks.

After its finished flowering is best. If its really badly overgrown wait until winter to cut it back to a metre. But if you do this it will not flower the following year. We do not cut ours back very much we do some pruning after its finished flowering and then again in early spring.

Just a quick question please, all other videos and info online do not suggest containers. Also they use gravel. Is this something you have done before with your Eremurus ? thank you
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 3 года назад
I grow alot of my plants in containers because I sometimes put them in the ground and they never come up or I only see them once then never again. This is especially true with anything that is a bulb or tuber. So I started using pots and things come up every year. I can also move them around my garden. I do use gravel ontop of my tulips to make it look good and mix it in the soil to keep them well drained. For my Eremurus I just use normal compost/soil and its fine. I might try one in the ground and see what happens!

To get flowers in July when exactly do we need to plant them?
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 4 года назад
The flowers in our garden are nearly all perenials so they come up every year. So each month we get different ones flowering because we have planted different perenials to flower at different times so we have flowers all year round. We do not grow many annuals because they only flower once. In our July garden you could buy and plant most of the flowers that I mention at anytime of year. There are some that are different - Lillies you buy as bulbs and they are available to buy now and you can plant them but they will probably not flower until next year. Dahlias are tubers and we planted then in the spring (there is a video) but we put the pot into the greenhouse until May. During the winter you need to put the pot back into a green house or take the tuber and dry it out and replant it next spring. Aliums we have put a video on and you plant them in october to flower in the spring. There are some plants that self seed around the garden so you need to buy then and plant them in the spring or summer and then when they finish flowering scatter the seed around the garden or collect the seed and grow the new plant from seed, these are Poppies, Aqualigia and Feverfew, Evening Primrose. We will do a video explaining this later this week. Thanks for getting in touch we love to answer gardening questions.

My rose bush is super tall! How do i know when to prune back without killing it?
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 4 года назад
Hi Deondra there are a few things to think about here. Perhaps your rose is a tall growing variety and thats how it should be but maybe you still want it shorter. Here are a few things to think about if you want to reduce it. Flowering shoots can be cut back when the rose dies off and you can cut them back to a leaf maybe 30 or 40 cms. But I would not do any more than that at this time of year. I would leave all the shoots alone. The time to get your rose to be the hieight you want it to be is the winter. In November or december I would prune it back 30 or 40 cms all over. Then maybe sometime January or Febuary I would do a final prune taking it down to the height you want it to start at, remembering it will grow after you have pruned it. We will put some photos on of the rose we pruned so you can see the height they are now but they are not big roses. You may have a much bigger variety.

@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 4 года назад
We think its Ceanothus thyrsiflorus, most of them are lower growing and shrubs. There are some though that grow to the height of ours or taller, It did take about 10 years to get this height. So it started as a bush but grew into a tree. Its now about 12ft (4 metres).

I have a rose plant that absolutely is nothing but leaves this year!! Plenty of leaves, nice color and even smooth and shiny but absolutely not a single bud!! Is this okay ?
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds
@GardeningTipsWithTheLloyds 4 года назад
There is a thing called rose blindness where the plant does not flower. But its not clear what causes it. Here are some suggestions - make sure it is really in the sun, check for any pests, there are pests that would nip off the buds, water regularly in the summer and think about nutrition. This could be organic or inorganic but it needs to be balanced between the 3 main nutrients - nitrogen, potassium and phostphorus. Usually to encourage plants to flower more a high potassium feed is used, this might be a standard tomatoe feed or if you are oganic a home made comfry feed.
