-I don't remember A LOT of those WW2 aircraft being there at Air Museum when I was there in 2014 and again in 2016. esp the p-38, p47 and b17. Did they only show for 2015 and that's it?
That would depend on what you are looking for in a road, but in general no I wouldn't, they are both equally spectacular! 16 has more amenities, more traffic, and Ten Sleep Canyon makes it more spectacular. 14 is a little bit quieter, a little more remote, and the entrance to Shell Canyon from the west makes up for the canyon not being as colorful as Ten Sleep. But 14 also has 14A, with even less traffic, a more remote feeling, the medicine wheel, and spectacular views of the basin to the west. If you do 14A also be sure to take the short drive up to Five Spring Falls (just trust me on that or check out my Five Spring Falls video).
Thanks so much Marc, that means a lot! Paul Black is awesome! Check him out at paulblack.ca/ He just released a new CD and you are going to love it, I know I certainly do! By the way CD's actually put a fair bit more money in the artist's pocket compared to downloads so if you can wait for Canada Post to deliver it is the way to go, an artist like Paul deserves it! And by the way tell him I sent you!
@@RobertMerz hey Robert, just went and ordered his cd’s and I told him , you sent me. Sure am looking forward to riding down the road on my06 Roadstar and listening to him play. Cheers
Whew, that was a tough one to hang on for, but I held tight (80% view time is the most important factor) and glad I did the last part is the best! I've had a channel for years, initially just to share family videos, but everything has changed. Have recently gotten back into sharing with shorts and doing research on channel pushing algorithms. Good footage and great stories, but I think this video is slow to keep a viewer. Maybe more edit changes and starting with your story, then giving kudos to other channels?
At 80% you did very well! You are right, it is way too slow a pace, especially with my speaking. I probably did this video more for myself. I enjoy working through all the technical and there is a lot in this vid. Starting with the background which is all created post, I am actually just sitting in front of a green screen. I also did it for my hardcore fans that would sit through it to see what my plans were. Glad you liked the last part, being involved in a big production was a lot of fun, as well as educational! As I mentioned in this video, and as you probably know as a creator, comments are really appreciated, thank you so much!
@@RobertMerz Yeah, I've always just been uploading for friends, but now realize this is global and anyone can see. So I'm trying to make video that are more viewable. It takes so much time to create. Theory is 1 hour for 1 minute, but its more like 2 for me. 🤔
@@RobertMerz I have a small audience in shorts and am making shorts from full videos now. Looking at the analytics it does push some people through. Less than 9 seconds of the video’s best highlight seems good. 😌 👍
Love that you posted it both in directions! Recently took this drive from Payette, up through Cambridge. Amazing sunny spring day with beautiful views on an amazing road, kept thinking how much fun it would be on a motorcycle. Be safe on it it though! Glad I was focused on the road driving back, a pick-up truck driver (assuming sight seeing) crossed into my lane, fortunately in a spot where there was space as I needed to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision. Could easily have been force into the river in a different location. Hope your still riding and posting this season!
It is such a great ride, and far enough out of the way to be fairly light traffic, but we still have to be attentive at all times. Glad you avoided a crash. Thanks for watching, and leaving a comment!
Thank you for the great video. The colors of nature are wonderful. Thank you also for a video without background music. I have nothing against music, I am an amateur musician myself, but the most beautiful music is the sound of the motorcycle. I have been looking for a long time for an exhaust for my Harley that has a sound that matches the sound I want and I have finally found one. The sound of your bike is fantastic. Thank you again! In my thoughts I am riding with you... Kind regards Heinz
Thank you very much Heinz! As you know I do use music on some of the videos, just to add an extra element, but yes the sound of an engine being put through its paces is music all by itself. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Love your site. I am in 6th year of ALS but before that my wife and I rode many of the roads you have. We rode 1984 Goldwing, 2012 Victory Vision…our favorite, and a couple rented HD. Love the rural west. Thanks again
I have been riding motorcycles for almost 60 years. I bought one of my bikes 30 years ago and still ride it. My Harley Street Bob is 10 years old. My dream was always the streets of the American West because my home country, Germany, is very, very, narrow. Now I'm an old man and it's too late. I watch your videos and dream. Thank you very much and always have a good trip.
Well thank you so much. Comments such as yours are always a little extra special to me, I really have tried to make my ride videos as just that, a ride, and I am glad to hear that you enjoy them!
My grandfather Jeri Oppenheim took me to Horsefly when I was a kid. He used to have a Royal Crown Lease there. I still remember his friend Cliff the trapper who lived on the hill just above the lake.
@RobertMerz Sadly, he is long gone. He was probably 70 in the 1970's A real old school trapper. I have pictures of him as a kid. I remember him rolling his cigarettes in this really cool flat machines. I also remember this house across the lake with barrels piled up. The neighbors even used an old clothes ringer to get the water out of the clothes before hanging them.
You do indeed have some fun places to ride. I have always wanted to ride the coast with the purpose of catching all the east west secondary highways that connect with the coast, some great rides that most of the destination riders totally overlook.
Great video. At the 18 second time point of the video while on Hwy 36 I noticed some steel grates across the highway. Was there any issue riding over them? Seem like it went well and there's no concern.
Steel grates on the highway are reasonably common on secondary highways and roads where cattle are on open range or in the case you saw wildlife are being restricted movement to other areas. They are often made of heavy steel pipe and place on the highway where a fence is to replace an actual gate across the road. In my area we call them cattle guards but they are often called Texas Gates in other parts. In the vid the guard was to stop the Bison from using the road to leave the park. Generally they are of little concern to ride over but use the same methods as crossing a railway track, try to be vertical not leaned over, maintain your speed not braking or accelerating, and cross them square on if possible. If it is wet or frosty be sure to apply all those rules double. Many cattle guards also have running strips placed on top of them to provide a smooth surface for car tires, some riders use these strips to cross but I prefer not to because if your approach isn't perfectly aligned it can act like grooved pavement and pull the bike around a bit. Now for my question, what part of the world are you from that you have not encountered these? I am just so used to them being around all my life I rarely take note of them.
@@RobertMerz I'm from the north east. Specifically Winchester VA. About 50 miles west of Washington DC. Close to Skyline Drive National Park. To be honest the first time I saw "Cattle" gates was during an episode of Yellowstone. :)
They are just one of those things we grew up with in the west so don't think much of them. We have lots of open range, government land that cattle owners can obtain a permit to range their cattle on, and that is where you will most likely encounter them. It is easy to think that everywhere in the world is the same, and it is good to be reminded that it isn't, thank you.
I only did Lolo Pass because it was on the way to somewhere else. I had heard of it but it wasn't high on my to do list partly because of it's fairly low elevation, but my opinion changed after riding it. It is a beautiful ride with endless sweeping corners, peaceful views of the river, and very light traffic when I did it. I highly recommend it! It is the kind of road that just makes you want to chill, at least it had that effect on me. Stop along the way and hike down to the river to soak the hot feet and just relax, it is that kind of place.
Hey thank You!, for watching another one! The Likely area is a great place to plan some off road adventures from. One of the most popular is the Likely to Barkerville via Matthew River and for a more hardcore route, via Yanks Peak. Here is a link to a video of a portion of the Matthew River Route: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pxp0nc4mjlQ.htmlsi=CUnDAPmWp1E5IqrM
The road into Horsefly is a nice ride, and the start of some great off pavement adventures if you wish to go further. Thanks for watching, and leaving a comment.
The top of the pass is fairly low level at just over 5,200 feet and I believe is kept open year round so I would expect it to be ridable and snow and ice free on nice days anytime in April and on. Expect it to be a cold ride with high snow banks though until at least early June, and remember mountain passes can get snow any month of the year.
Mr. Robert, will you maybe doing a video about the 2013 Wildfire Season in this Classic Motorcycle with clearly written words style of yours.? It's dramatic & effective way to read while watching you Ride these area in Very High Quality.! The Music is subtle & in the background, it doesn't over-power the video like in mine vids. 👍
Thanks for the kind words regarding my vid style, I appreciate that. Regarding the 2013 wildfire season i don't remember it being out of the ordinary, maybe remind me of the area that it most affected. Also 2013 is far enough back now that the more striking evidence of a fire is starting to fade so is less evident in a ride by type of video.
The 2023 fire season didn't affect any areas that I plan to ride through so probably not, if I do ride through an area and it is obvious I will probably point it out.
I understand 🙂 I liked it when the Canadian Guys use to host Motorcycle LiveStream every week. Snow & Cold is coming to Calgary again this Sunday, if you ever wanted to help me encourage someone to start a MotoStream, that would mean a lot for my winter. It could be some older gentleman on Cruisers, that enjoy long distance riding, even if that is not my style.
It has been winter here now for a week, and worse then that it has been very grey and dull so it has hit hard, so I get needing encouragement through the winter. Let me know if you find someone doing that!
