A sunny afternoon, a twisty highway, beautiful golden autumn colors, and a motorcycle, truly a Gold Rush Highway. This ride is from Quesnel to Wells, British Columbia on Highway 26, the Cariboo Waggon Road.

Such a great day for a ride, with good fall colours. Definitely a hidden gem that is well off the beaten track. I forgot about the ski hill.

I find this highway fairly hard to catch in the best light in the fall, the sun stays so low throughout the day. But there is that one or two hours it is just right, and this was it! As it was the last leg, as I turn toward Barkerville from Wells, the light was already gone. The ski hill is doing a fairly big expansion, putting new runs in on the adjacent mountain.

I rode this a few years ago and camped in Barkerville for a couple of nights. There was a music festival in Wells at the time.

Robert, epic doesn’t do it justice! Man o man, one could never get tired of riding this stretch. Makes me think of how my dad had his favorite stretches, and he would have ridden this trail every week for as long as the weather would allow. I noticed the moisture in those shaded spots, something we always have to be on the lookout for. This trek is a Gem! Thank you for sharing it.

It was just a perfect afternoon for a ride that direction, fall colors, sun at my back! But yes late fall for the area and there are areas of the road that have heavy dew on them even in the afternoon!

Beautiful! Best time of year for a ride. The colors are so vivid in the fall, the sky is so blue. Well done. Thanks for the ride along.

Thank you for the great video. The colors of nature are wonderful. Thank you also for a video without background music. I have nothing against music, I am an amateur musician myself, but the most beautiful music is the sound of the motorcycle. I have been looking for a long time for an exhaust for my Harley that has a sound that matches the sound I want and I have finally found one. The sound of your bike is fantastic. Thank you again! In my thoughts I am riding with you... Kind regards Heinz

Thank you very much Heinz! As you know I do use music on some of the videos, just to add an extra element, but yes the sound of an engine being put through its paces is music all by itself. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

Such an awesome road and in Oct with those colours !!!! Wow
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz Год назад
It really was a timing thing. The colours have a short window of only a week or so, and at that time of year the sun is so low and there is only a couple hours that you can film it without the sun being in your eyes or most of the ride being in shade. I was very happy that I caught it nearly perfectly!

You will have to plan the big loop, 97 north, 16 east, and 5 south, with lots of detours and stops along the way. Or even bigger, 16 east to Jasper and 93 south! Thanks so much Eddie.

Wow! Great ride! It felt just like I was driving home. ;) I lived in Wells in the 90's and early 2,000's. I was watching some Itchy Boots videos and your channel came up in the suggestions. Subscribed and watched a few of your latest videos. Thanks again for the great video! 🥰

Thanks so much for stopping by and the great comment. Also thanks for the sub. I did another Barkerville Highway vid a couple years ago, a little bit longer and with some music from Ross Douglas. You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SKu9bS18Zqk.html

Thanks Walter. I appreciate comments like that as they influence how I make videos. I used to add music over almost the entire video after I had created the motorcycle audio, I just thought it would be more professional plus it carried the video a little bit. After a few fairly pointed comments I started changing the music part of the video. I still add music on some videos, but only for a portion, and some videos have no music whatsoever, and both those changes are due to comments such as yours , and a few that were far less polite. Here is the funny thing though, when I ride I don't liten to music ever, I just prefer not to. But when I am editing video I prefer adding music, oh well comments like yours will keep me reined in! Thanks for watching, and commenting!

Beautiful fall scenery. Beautiful ride. As usual great videography. I enjoyed the ride. I even looked up a couple of locations that caught my eye on Google Maps and did a street view. Beautiful places

Thanks so much Ned. If you ever plan a trip this way I think, based on some of your other travels, you guys would really enjoy Barkerville just a few miles beyond Wells. Wells itself is also a place you would enjoy, it is just such a cool little town.

great video Robert , is there a gas station in wells and if you keep going does it go back to 97 ?
@RobertMerz
@RobertMerz Год назад
Thanks Wayne. Such easy answers, yes and yes!! But really the answers are not that easy, both are more of it depends. Wells did go through a time with no gas station, I think due to environment concerns that the tanks were leaking. Eventually above ground tanks were installed and fuel is now available again, and I think for the most part a dependable source of fuel, but it is a limited supply at one location so it would be possible for them to temporarily run out on occasion. Back to 97? Most people consider Highway 26 to be a dead end highway, and for most it is. The answer first will depend on what you ride or drive, are you only wanting to do paved roads, or would you be comfortable on gravel or even worse? Secondly what is your intent? Explore? Shortcut? which direction do you wish to arrive on 97, north or south? If you are only doing paved roads Barkerville is the end of the road. Gravel opens up several more options. You can continue on to Bowron Lakes, a one of a kind canoe route with awesome scenery, and consider that the end of the road. If you wish to go north on 97 you can backtrack to Beaver Pass and turn north on a gravel road which comes out on 97 about 30 miles north of Quesnel. If you wish to go south the Barkerville - Likely Road is a spectacular route! It will bring you out on 97 at 150 Mile House. If you want scenery and are up for a bit of adventure I cannot recommend the Barkerville - Likely route enough. Check out this video here for a sampling of what is along the Barkerville - Likely route: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pxp0nc4mjlQ.html If you are planning a trip into the Barkerville area I would be happy to help out with info, just let me know!
