What’s funny as well as a lot of the first generation Battletech designs (i.e. many of the ones the Lego team referenced here) were in fact designed imported from the 1982 anime Super Dimension Fortress Macross (also known as Robotech in the US, and the source of the toy for Transformers G1 Jetfire as well). They didn’t *quite* trace over someone else’s art so much as the creators of Battletech thought they licensed the designs but only licensed the art from various anime. Funny how I can now add Bionicle to the looooooooong list of western things that have been influenced, directly and indirectly, by Macross/Robotech and Shoji Kawamori, the mecha designer behind that franchise as well as Armored Core, Vision of Escaflowne, Diaclone/first year Transformers G1, and Gundam 0083.

Ah, thanks for the clarification! I also recall hearing that some BattleTech designs were taken from the 1981 anime, "Fang of the Sun Dougram" from this cool video I saw about it, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iBEy3mVN05M.html. - Waj

Replying to the review of Matoro's gun - it's more like a sniper, and it does more damage when you shoot from further away using the scope (ability button). It really does suck for most scenarios though. I totally forgot that you can't use the scope until you fully unlock it though!
@Modularity
@Modularity Год назад
Ah, that makes sense. Also I totally forgot to show/explain how it can freeze enemies too. According to BS01, there's a 6% chance to freeze with the level 1 mask, then 12% for level 2 and 25% at level 3. The fire rate is pretty slow though, so I just end up using one of the other Toa in most cases :P

Really nice to see my script helped! :D Really great video, was cool to hear your thoughts on it ^^ and thanks so much for the shoutout! To add a slight correction, someone said the textures were up-res'd - it's actually the original textures from the game! That's always been impressive to me, the amount of details in the textures that were just lost through the DS's tiny screen. What's been increased is just the output resolution from the game's 3D engine. I like that you noticed that you can see the end of the previous level from the start of each. I love that in Sky Temple you can see the Coliseum at the start, then you go into it in the next level. I think the ranking is based on how many deaths + how many coins you got. I'm a big fan of Nuparu's shotgun, personally. Also, lil secret - I added a sprint button in my script, it's RB :D
@TomRule
@TomRule Год назад
when you talk about "Destraction" - That's actually the grey toa's unique ability. You can swap from the zamor launcher to the hand, and rotate them until they explode :D
@Modularity
@Modularity Год назад
Great to hear from ya! Your script was incredibly helpful; really made re-playing the game a lot of fun! I meant to clarify that the textures were the original ones and not part of some high-res texture pack, but ended up saying they were up-res'd even though that's not the case. Regardless I really appreciate the detail that went into 'em. Yeah I dig how the levels feed into each other; makes the areas feel cohesive. My top 3 weapons would be: Jaller, Kongu, and Nuparu. I stuck to Jaller mainly in this to get through the game fast. Dang, now I kinda want to play the game a 5th time just to use the sprint button :D Also that's super interesting about Destraction- I'll have to try that next time :)

The word I should probably have used was chill (or as Slime said passive) instead of laidback as she wasn't always exuberant like most recent Disney Channel teenage girl protagonists (Mabel, Star, Luz, Molly McGee) have been. Instead she was usually more calm and collected

So glad that you want to revisit it, it's got so many well hidden secrets; took me 13 hrs to 100% it. Also I just recently found out that Makuta mode makes it so that if you die, you have to restart the level you're on, which adds that consequence to death. We forgot to test the mode in the video, and I never bothered to try it, so I kinda want to play the game a 5th time since I think that additional challenge would make the game even more fun.

I have many opinions on TCW, but I would have too much to say here. This was a fun discussion, lots of interesting points brought up. That said, I will say Rebels really takes what Clone Wars set up and rolls with it in a way I love. After recently rewatching both series, Clone Wars has a *lot* of completely skippable episodes and some incredibly low lows. The highs are great, but that show was not consistent in quality. Rebels, however, is a pretty solid experience the whole way through, with no plotline ever feeling like filler. Every single episode was used to develop plot or characters, and I can't say any episode feels especially weak. Whereas I felt the need to make an episode guide for my older brother (who is watching Clone Wars for the first time), I don't feel that need at all for Rebels. But I can't say Rebels is the best non-movie Star Wars material, because the Charles Soule comics exist, and so does Andor, both of which I have been absolutely delighted with.
@Modularity
@Modularity Год назад
I think I came across as too negative towards TCW, but I actually did like most episodes/arcs I saw. Granted, I was given an episode guide by Jogn, so I don't know what kind of lows the show really hits. I haven't heard too much about Rebels, so I might check it out if its of a more consistent quality. - Waj
@maccaebus
@maccaebus Год назад
Rebels is less episodic and arc-driven compared to Clone Wars, being more of a long-form story. It's carried by its good cast of characters who very much act like a family. While it can be whimsical and childish at times, being aimed at an even younger audience than Clone Wars, it never feels like it's dumbing things down too much. One of the things it really does well (aside from properly concluding the story arcs of a couple fan favorite characters) is getting into what it means to be a Jedi, and bringing back a lot of the "magic" to the Force. There's some extremely memorable moments in the show regarding the mysticism of the Force, some not even strictly related to the Jedi or Sith. It absolutely gets zany and wild, but I think that's what I like about it: it's not afraid to go places with the setting and really push the limits of what we think we know about the Force.

If y'all need any tips, I know a... well, frankly an unreasonable amount about this game. Also, when talking about versions, you missed one: the mobile version. No, not on smartphones. Mobile, as in flip phone. Hero Mode being too prevalent is a huge criticism of this game, not just because it makes the game too easy, but because this game actually has a *really* good soundtrack, and while the Hero Mode theme is a good song, it also means you never really get to hear much of else.

Yeah, we may revisit this version- possibly with the Myths of Voya Nui and Voriki mods. I actually spent about 5 hours yesterday playing through all of the DS version again, and its pretty fun. In all likelihood we might save the DS version for last and try the GBA one next, since I don't think anyone has had experience with it. So we could go in blind much like our Tales of the Tohunga playthrough.

In a perfect world, Bionicle heroes would have created brand new stuff to flesh out voya nui, instead of using stuff from prior years of bionicle they could design new rahi and other things to fight. But when you consider that they had development constraints, I am fine with what we got.
@Modularity
@Modularity 2 года назад
Same, I think TT Games did a great job merging their design style with BIONICLE. Its clear from the dev interviews that they had done their research and just chose not to make it fit under BIONICLE's canon for the sake of creating a more streamlined gameplay experience. And I respect that.
