Hey Kyle. Sorry for the late reply. I have had some phone issues and just got them straightened out. 3x3 is an air box mod. Google 3x3 mod dr650. It just adds three inches of intake air. The 3x3 is size of the hole, thereby making it adaptable to use a k&N filter.

Thanks for taking us a long for the ride ! I used the 14/42 sprocket ratio on our DR 650 and had a similar experience noting 60 MPH was close to what I thought the engine liked for cruising . Most of my riding is back roads with a little highway riding . I reckon at 21:50 is why Suzuki put the DR 650 out from the factory with the 15/42 sprocket ratio so it would fit in about anywhere . Do you folks have many deer in your area ? We have a lot and that's one of my biggest fear riding .

Looks like a good time was had by all. How did the Talon perform? Any unexpected problems? Any aspects in which it particularly shines? As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve
@adventuresofjasonjulie8993
@adventuresofjasonjulie8993 Год назад
Steve, The Talon performed flawlessly. The terrain was very mild (in my opinion) with brief inlays of off roading here and there. It was nice to have the enclosure and heater as the mornings were quite brisk and unexpectedly cool. Nothing a nice over jacket could not have handled, but it was nice to have the heat and windows all the same. We did find some really good rock crawling on Poughkeepsie pass. The only problem we had, was self-imposed (as usual). When we arrived in Colorado, I noticed antifreeze in the toy hauler. I had overtightened a clamp on the heater system, and it was leaking, so we had to find a new clamp, replace, and fill. We were so fortunate that Lake City Co. has a utv dealer in town, so they were instrumental in getting us back on the trail, and super friendly people. The Talon has turned out to be a wonderful machine that is as reliable as the sunrise. I don't really care for the so-short wheelbase, but it works perfectly for our needs and fits like it was made for our toy hauler. As far as it shining, it shines in every category. We did 10+ hours a day in the talon with no comfort issues, and no worries of any trail. We often wheel alone and feel completely safe and have no reservations of the trails we travel. We rode most of the time in normal suspension mode, while sport mode is used for higher speeds on gravel and pavement. For what the machine is, the build is perfect for what we do and where we go. I will add though, we are going to upgrade to the PRP heated seats and a four-point harness, the factory seat belts left us both raw on the neck after day 2. Not much, but that is my only complaint about the talon. I hope this answers your question and thank you for watching.

I picked up a very low milage DR with 3 more years of factory warranty. The stock gearing would sling shot me out the driveway and I figured that would mean a lot of clutch work at low speeds on bush tote roads so I went with a 15/45 set up. I have not yet had a chance to test my prediction.
@adventuresofjasonjulie8993
@adventuresofjasonjulie8993 Год назад
15/45 will tame it down a little, I am currently running a 14/42 set up for around town, country highway and forest riding. the 14/45 was too low for highway speeds so I went back to the stock rear sprocket when I got back from Colorado, and nearly melted the rear end down. While I had it all apart, I went back to the stock rear, and it seems to be working out for the time being. It's like I can't find the perfect combination.

Just came across your vid. I saw your section on the helmet cam set up. I see you are using a GoPro Hero 3 or similar. I would like to urge you to upgrade that camera to at least a 7, if not newer, to get better resolution and image stabilization. I waited too long to do it and wish I had done it years ago. Now I have tons of footage of great rides that is almost unwatchable due to the lack of image stabilization. They don't need a case either. I suggest that you record in at least 2K, 60 for best editing / quality. No dig, just solid advice from a fellow RU-vidr. I got my 7 black mid 2020. If you look at some of my footage from early 2020 and before compared to late 2020 and beyond, you will see the difference. ( www.youtube.com/@dirtbikeaddicts3172 ) I ended up braking my leg pretty badly at the end of 2020 and basically ended my trail riding. I had so much great footage from before. Kicking myself for not getting a better camera earlier. Best wishes.

Hey old man, Thanks for the looking out. We have since upgraded to a 9 series go pro, and you are correct, there is no comparison. Just have a hard time letting go of money spent, i guess. Sorry to hear you are not able to ride no more, and if nothing else, I'll use the better camera on the next ride, so men like you can enjoy the ride a little better, even if it is from home. While your results are bang on, if you do the math opposite the numbers are more relatable (to car guys at any rate): 42/15= 2.8:1 final drive ratio (stock) 42/14= 3:1 (lower) final drive ratio. 43/15= 2.867:1 final drive ratio. Stock was okay but lacked off road low speed, went fast enough though. 42/14 was way snappier but 120kph is about the upper limit for sustained highway travel (my opinion). 14 tooth showed wear pretty quick due to the small diameter as well, I imagine a 13 would wear very quick. While swapping them out will do as you suggest I don’t think you will need to. My solution so far is 15/43 plus a TM40 (and exhaust); the gearing is just a bit lower (great torque) but 120+ is still no issue (moderate RPM). Looks like a great bike, more so when all your parts show up.👍

The Talon is shaft drive and honestly I grew up on Hondas. I've abused them for years and they are bulletproof. Not preferential of one over the other, just go with what you know kinda thing. As far as the Talon build.....don't know that I would do anything different. We built it as a team, (Julie and I) for the type riding we do, and it's perfect. I have built several and have a really good knowledge of what I was going to do before we bought it. Don't wait....go get, get out there and love the life. The longer you wait the more confusing it gets. The only other advice I've got is make sure it's something yall are actually going to use. The market is flooded with want verses need. We love offroading and plan constantly for the next ride, it's "OUR" thing, it's what we do. For a lot of people the extra money to outfit, the hauling to trails, the hotels and cabins is just to overwhelming and they are stuck with a 30k garage space taker. Hope this helps bro.

@@adventuresofjasonjulie8993 appreciate the knowledge, thank you. It would be my first utv. I've had multiple honda sport bikes, never let me down. We were in to the ski boat/lake life thing for a while. Kinda over it. I hear what you're saying about the garage queen thing. That's why I was also considering getting it plated, so we can ride around the streets now and then. Thank you again for the information, and for your straight up video style. Cheers

@@adventuresofjasonjulie8993 keep up the good work! Now I just need to convince the wife about the talon, and sell the ski boat. Lol.
