I'm very interested in how Botox for migraines is/isn't covered. In the US, I've been getting Botox for migraines (via my neurologist) for 6 years and it is the *only* thing that has kept me from being totally disabled because of how bad my migraines are. I have to get it once every three months and it's currently totally covered here in the US, but in Germany, I'm not sure if it'd be covered or if it'd be considered "cosmetic" surgery (as it is still seen in a lot of places). No one's been able to give me a clear answer.

I wrote Testdaf and would probably prepare myself again and write in two more months. Reason: Even though writing and reading were easy according to me, I screwed up in speaking because many people speak at the same time in the recorder. Nobody mentions this part, which is the most irritating part I have had to face. Listening is similar to IELTS where you might lose track and need more practise.

I am much older. My wife and son are asian and living in Arizona with the horrible divide in this country as well as the constant struggle with healthcare has caused us to shop around for our next home. We need to visit Bremen it looks very nice and all of the reasons you mention are very key to us. I would be retired but my wife would like to continue to work. Thank you for all of your videos.

Racism might be more subtle in Germany than it is in the US, not so in-your-face, but it definitely exists. I recall an incident when my car was in repairs and I took the tram. There was an elderly lady standing next to me on a platform (I’m 68, so when I say “elderly” it refers to someone around 80). A group of young black girls wearing hijabs passed us by and the lady turned to me and said “Where might _they_ have come from?” I knew what she was getting at, just based on the disdainful tone of the question and the emphasis of the word “they”, but I decided to pretend not to, so I just replied “Oh, maybe Somalia or Ethiopia. Pretty girls.” She replied “Well yes, they _are_ pretty…” - again that tone and that emphasis that implied there was a “but” to her statement. In that precise moment a black guy came up to me and asked if I speak English. Being a native English speaker, I replied in the affirmative, and he asked if I could tell him at which stop he had to get off (I happened to be standing next to the route map). At that point we were approached by another black guy who also needed help but couldn’t speak German. I showed them both on the map where their individual stops were and we chatted a bit. All the time I observed the old lady from the corner of my eye and noted with some sense of inner glee the shocked, almost disgusted look on her face. I’m not sure if racism is a cultural thing or more an educational thing. I had never studied, having left home when I was 16, and worked at various normal office jobs throughout my work life, but I noticed the difference in attitude. I worked with mainly blue collar workers in one company for 20 years, and much as I liked my colleagues in general, there were certainly elements of racism, some more open, others in a more “subtle joking” manner. My colleagues were mostly German or Polish. Later I worked for an IT company for 18 years, where roughly 90% of the employees had studied. We were a diverse mixture of nations and ethnicities, German, Polish, Greek, Serbian, Turkish, Sri Lankan, Cameroonian, and English (me), and we all got along great. The atmosphere was generally relaxed and easy-going, despite the work-related stress. We all accepted each other as equals, I never detected a hint of racism. While no one else seemed to even think about it, for me, having come from the other company, then coming into this one, the difference was striking. I am retired now, but I still believe I had the best colleagues ever in that company.
@hajotge12
@hajotge12 6 месяцев назад
Your experience aligns to mine. The more white collar a company is and the more (original) ethnicities mix, the less racism you will see. I even a study about what makes people more trusting (which translates to me to "less racist") (many years ago) and the top item was: Going to a University.
@patriciamillin1977
@patriciamillin1977 6 месяцев назад
@@hajotge12 So it definitely does seem to be an issue of education, certainly the ability to think critically is important. Not everyone in the first company was racist, but the less educated they were, the worse the racism was. There were some with whom you could have at least a normal conversation, even if not necessarily an intelligent debate on any issues, with others it was impossible to have any decent conversation. It was very different in the second company where you could discuss all kinds of issues. I always got along with most people I’ve worked with, but I never had a private friendship with the people I worked with in the first company. In the other company, my colleagues and I did a lot of things together after work and I still have contact with most of them now.

Iam 60 years old never been in jail I was attacked in braunschweig by police in civilian clothes and a black car in an alley on September 1 2022 .I was taken to a police department to where they were celebrating and saying I swallowed cocain.I had needle marks in my arm from a operation about 12 hours prior and I was on my way back to my hospital room.I have a useless arm and defenseless.I have a American indigenous half breed and white background but look arab.They jump out of the car and attacked me no words were spoken before the attack.All I could do was cover my head I thought it was a mugging.I lost Conscience and woke up in handcuffs blinded by blood in my eyes with a knee on my head and neck see a video of the Floyd murder.Iam being charged with assault on a police officer.They gave me a drug test about 20 minutes after the assault that was negative.I called the American embassy for help but did not receive any other than advice to contact a lawyer and I did unfortunately There is no way I could pay him what he asked.Iam a veteran of the us army 2 honables and a veteran correctional officer from Texas with 22 years working as a hospital porter in Wolfsburg Germany and married to a German national for over 38 years and grandfather.If you are of color and in Braunschweig stay together stay away from poor places.My doctor an Arab told me that police in black cars have been seen attacking citizens and throwing them in the trunk.Iam still in bed but getting better from where I write this message.No video of the attack was taken but have multiple bruises The severe concussion so that I can’t drive a car yet.I have photos of the damage they are horrific.

You know what if these people do not want to ban hate speech then they must ban immigration 100%. Why do these people accept immigration if they do not want to support them completely LOL. Just ban immigration then no one will even consider immigrating to your country. It is as simple as that. Just ban immigration if you do not want to ban hate speech :)

Two biggest differences betwenn the police in Germay and the US: Germany Training is a minimum of 2.5 yrs. up to 3 yrs. Training includes extensive law training, deescalation training, psychology, gun training (both physically as mentally) as well well as generall awarness of what our job is about (with an emphasis on history of the police and what it was misused for from 1933-1945). The second big thing is, that we are taught from day 1 of your training, that we are not above the law. Our job is to enforce it and help our citizines, but we will be held acountable, to every extent of german law, if we abuse our "power". E.g. We shoot some in the back 6 times....there is no way a germany court will rule that as self defense. That officer will be charged, trialed nad most surley be convicted of murder. So because people here in Germay know this, they are much mor trusted of the police!

In the area of Bavaria, particularly in the Munich region, the Polizei (policy enforcers), are a bit more aggressive in racial profiling non whites. Also, BLM are not sensitive to other "black lives". So if "black lives" don't matter to other "black lives", why should anyone else be sensitive to "black lives"? So my take on that topic is that ALL lives matter.

One thing thar REALLY pisses me off about this discussion is how many people uncritically accept racist terminology. Black, asian, white or any other bullshit arbitrary category you want to make up are phenotypes. The "race" is called homo sapiens!

Enjoyed this a lot. Gonna visit Dresden in June as well. Kinda funny and sad how you were talking about "people" on that mural when it were actually just men. Which had me think for rhe rest of the video about how our city scapes even nowadays are just plastered with replicas of rich men putting their own faces somewhere or having it put there by their eich fanboys :(
