Too many parts way too many things can go wrong if it ain't put together perfect. ... just stick to a Warford auxiliary or nothing . That's been my experience. A 3 speed auxiliary if shifting is done properly like double clutching... never an issue and outlast the engines 3 times over

Thx for video. I have a 29 Tudor with 6 volt positive ground. Will the Harbor Freight gauges work ok ? Thx for the help.
@tracer409
@tracer409 Год назад
The Harbor Freight gauge set is universal. They have an Amperes, Water Temp, Oil pressure. The oil pressure will be of no use to you because Model A's don't have a pressure oil system, They only have a lift pump and it is low pressure- 5lbs max. The Amp gauge is a +/- 60 amp it'll work but a standard generator will not deflect the needle much. The water temp gauge is a sealed capillary tube it'll work with a modification to add the probe.

My dear friend, I am not someone who puts on a mask, eye protection, and rubber gloves to pop a pimple myself, but don´t grab in muriatic acid with gloves. If there´s a leak, you will remember it for a long long time. Use tweezers of some kind and keep your eyes (and face for that matter) away in case you accidentaly drop the item back in the jar. (splash up, blind !) Enjoy your hobby !

Interesting and helpful video Mike, and no doubt it your experienced feel gives you the right backlash. But you are getting a very false reading with the dial gauge set at that angle, a finger type test indicator would get down in there better and be much more accurate.
@tracer409
@tracer409 2 года назад
Thanks Bernard! You’re right it could be more accurate. For all intents and purposes, the accuracy will be more than precise enough for the life of the vehicle.

When the 2 housing are together it was hard to turn with your thumbs, are you say there is no end play what so ever on the thrust washers? Or do you then add a gasket between the housing giving them a .005 clearance.
@tracer409
@tracer409 14 дней назад
@@neildorey3978 Correct, there was no endplay. You don't want any endplay. A little preload is acceptable. Too much preload and you can prematurely wear out your thrust washers or bearing. I didn't add a gasket between the housings, I only used silicone to seal the halves.

Greetings, More questions. Are those Chevy four cylinder disc wheels? They look good speedsters with bodies. Is the fuel pump wired so you can kill it? Maybe fit a fuel regulator and a return line to the tank? That Model A carburetor is intended for gravity feed, a fuel pump might overwhelm the float valve. I’m not trying to be a pain, I’m just asking questions that come to mind. Let’s be careful out there.

Greetings, It’s been a few years since I had a Model T to play with, but I’m enjoying the variety of RU-vid videos. What’s the output of the Model T flywheel magneto? I seem to remember some people trying to hook the output of the magneto to rectifier bridge to get DC output. You’d have to add a voltage regulator, but it might eliminate that modern alternator. Of course the flywheel effect would be increased, but again, no visible alternator. Regarding improved brakes….. Charles Yapp’s Secrets of Speed Society magazine had a couple short articles about better brakes for Model T Fords. I think one mentioned fitting brake drums and backing plates from a VW Rabbit to the rear axle. Another showed motorcycle front discs and calipers adapted to the front spindles. Some of Jay Leno’s aero engined cars have had brakes fitted to the front axles. Those cars are in his Restoration Update segments. Remember, it doesn’t matter how powerful the brakes you fit are, you’ve only got a tiny tire patch. Four wheel brakes would improve the situation, and hydraulics might make them more controllable, but once the brakes are locked up, you’re just along for the ride. Let’s be careful out there.
@tracer409
@tracer409 2 года назад
What’s the output of the Model T flywheel magneto? Varies on Engine RPM 6v AC to 30-40Vac. I have used a diode to rectify the ACwaveform and charge the battery. With the use of lights and electric start as well as the ignition system, it typically doesn't keep up. a good idea that isn't practical for this system. Brakes... I personally am more interested in the ability to keep up with traffic rather than the need to stop on a dime. I have seen more Antique car accidents cause by the antique car not driving at posted speed limits. Brakes are important, but not as important as people think- Drive defensively!

How is the valve train oiled?
@edgartaylor7421
@edgartaylor7421 2 года назад
It might be one of those that don’t need oil. I remember an early ohv engine with an exposed valve train from the factory.
@tracer409
@tracer409 2 года назад
The engine is a splash oil system, there was no pressurized oil to the valve train assembly. It was on the operator at regular intervals to lubricate the system. This particular cylinder head didn't even have a rocker cover to keep dirt and debris out of the moving parts.

One more thing I could use some guidance on with my speedster. BRAKES! As of now I have no brakes when in neutral. Using T Trans with Model A as auxiliary Trans, small drum with wire wheels! No room for Rocky Mtns. Looking at Texas T disc brakes (once again expensive). Called them and seems I have to wait on "Bill" to call me due to that combination of rear-end and wire wheels. Any other brake ideas u know of man?
@tracer409
@tracer409 2 года назад
I do know of an idea! There were small drum brake assemblies that were available. Tom at Antique Auto Ranch in Spokane, Wa had some early small drum brake assemblies for sale a while back! I don't recommend Rocky Mountain brakes, In a future video I will go into some of those reasons!
