haha, but Tolkien himself said on more than one occasion that his work is purely Christian, he even converted other writers of the time to Christianity, like Lewis...I don't understand how there can be people who hate Christianity so much that they don't want to recognize that an author they respect is one.
I rather enjoyed season 1. But that involved a lot of vodka and pot. I enjoyed the scenery and score, all while daydreaming about the lore. It was a fun thought exercise to guess what parts of the lore they were going to adapt and try to fit into their adaptation. I thought Adar was an interesting character, and I thought his orcs looked good.
It always confused me when people swap a genshin's character race and everyone praises the person who edited the character's skin to white, and their justification is always "oh, this region of genshin is supposed so be inspired by Egyptian people so they should be black", and I mean, fair enough, but is every Egyptian a stereotypical black person with wide lips? Because that's what every character ends up as
Disney fired all their 2D animation pretty much for CGI animation Marvel is a second hand studio that is still a Disney owned but not directly running it
They have no good faith earned not with there words and especially there actions Just because It got a few things right doesn't negate the base fundamentals and structure of the world it got wrong. Undeniably purposefully and maliciously so for modern day social brownie points, And that's not even factoring in all the crapping on fans they did, so no they don't deserve a fair shake not after all modern-day BS that's bin going with almost every popular piece of entertainment.
I want to think that timing was the main reason Furiosa bombed but then there's James Cameron's Avatar franchise. I think the reason why it bombed was due to the overall state of the film industry. The pandemic, streaming, and all of this woke crap have made releasing movies a great way to go bankrupt.
Hollywood has a system of breaking in new starlets. I'm not sure why it's taking ten years to introduce Anya, though. Film fanstics know her pretty well. She didn't need to wedge herself into a franchise like this. This was a bad move career-wise.
Uruk is the word orc in black speech. Before Sauron created a separate large variety of orcs, all orcs could call themselves Uruk, and it wasn't until they made large orcs that they began to divide into Uruk (true orcs) and Snaga (slaves). The show takes place many thousands of years before the separate Uruks appear.
Could Tom's appearance be based on Paddingon Bear? You mentioned in the video Tom's clothes were based on a doll of Tolkien's children, and that was the first thing that came to mind
I have more of an issue with the people in the show (like Galadriel or Adar himself) seeing Adar as an Orc, when he's just an Elf with skin issues. He seems to believe in Eru as the creator, which is contradictory to the idea of the spiritual corruption of the Orcs.
I’m not sure why it matters…no one should be watching this junk anyway. They could include jar jar bjnks and it wouldn’t affect my viewing experience 😂
The show is doom to fail, when there’s an interview between Showrunners and Vanity Fair, a while back ,in season 1, when they said “ they wanted to create a story that Tolkien never wrote” in other words they’re simply saying they wanted to make up things out of the blue and use Tolkien name on it. If Tolkien never wrote it , then there is no need for it period. It’s as simple as that.
Why do you read something if you didn’t like it from the jump? I loved this series. Alan was written like a fleshed out gay man of his time. Any moodiness or ineptitude would be pretty normal considering the heightened stakes of bringing queer back then. Lots of men had “beards”, had families, lived in the closet. Otherwise they could be fired, institutionalized, or targeted for violence. But yeah, sure, I guess he wasn’t acting “Super” all the time. He may have even acted…human 🤷🏼♂️ and I found that way more interesting than 20 pages of punching. As for the “going back in time to watch his kids grow up”; I hope we get to see more of that in a series and what he did or failed to do in those utter low moments of Jade and Obsidian’s childhoods. I’m now pretty obsessed with Alan Scott and looking for older issues ft. him. Reading them, I keep in mind he’s canonically gay, which feels right considering we’re all pushed towards heteronormativity early in life. Enjoy your JADEdness, haters 💚 Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈
Nerd Alert! And me being a nerd, I am Alert! To bad the show runners decided they did not need us nerds to make the show popular. oh, wait... yes they did...
I just have to say, I don't think you're "Just Some Guy" I think you're "The Guy" I love Tolkien and hear someone stand up for this wonderful legacy of Anglo-Saxon culture is warming my heart. Norwegian culture and the cultures of what we know today as The British Isles, are very much intertwined. Things like Dublin was founded by Norwegian vikings. The British language has many words with Norse origin and vice versa. How you pronounce numbers for instance. In English it is; One. In Norwegian; En. Two ... To. Three ... Tre. Four ... Fire and so on. And the pronunciation of those numbers are so similar. There are many words that sound very similar, like Window in English is Vindu in Norwegian. The new trend of today that shits all over western and northern Europe culture is just wrong. Spiteful and filled with envy. And in case of white people who do it, (and there are a lot of them this days) is just masochism and self flagellation on display for a narcissistic audience. I'm from Norway and we are a small country, (and to borrow from "Love Actually") But we are a great country as well. I got a question: If the Western culture (read white culture) is so bad, racist, violent and intolerant. How come that EVERY refugee on the entire planet desperately try to come here? How come? Okay. So what has any of this to do with Tolkien and Amazons butchering of his work. Its a concerted effort by forces to dismantle and destroy western culture. Discredit all the good things by using the bad things. Shit, I can do that with any culture since the beginning of time. But it would still be wrong.
You know, I am just one guy, too. Over 50. I grew up in an age, without all this fancy CGI-stuff (Yes, Extra-Portion of Pathos here). But back then, I imagined, what movies could be made, when the restrains of models and extras could be left behind? If you just need one Computer to generate huge battles? When the opportunity arises, to get worlds like Middle-Earth in a credible way to the big and small screen? Now, all of this is technically possible. But look what we have got!
There’s this one line from the funimation English version dragon soul and it hit me hard when I learned the LEGEND had passed, “Nothing ever dies, we will rise again”, Toriyama-sensei lives on in his children and family and the legacy of Dragon Ball that made millions of peoples childhoods. Rest In Power Toriyama-sensei.
Nothing new. Right, left, up, down, doesn't matter. Plenty of folks can separate the artist from the person. I can only imagine reactions to some of the stories I write. No, that's not my belief. The story and setting reflects the world in which the CHARACTERS live.
Tolkein literally said that he hates Allegory's and nothing in the lord of the rings is an allegory for anything. It's Good vs. Evil, that's it. Yeah it has some correlations, but it also has correlations with Beowulf and Norse mythology. He said that making something an allegory stifles how people view it and what messages they pull from it.
Sorry but after they basically spit on Tolkiens creation and said "we can do it better" they lost all credibility and fairness. Spitting on a guys legacy that is already dead and cant defend himself anymore is despicable. You saying we have to be fair when all the damage has already been done honestly melts my brain a bit as I didnt expect this coming from you.
I've been saying this for months. If Disney is so insistent on casting black actors in European stories. Make a movie about African myth. Make an action thriller about an African folk hero who has to track down and slay the Grootslang and recover its treasure to save his village/town from poverty. Or maybe a horror suspense movie about a witch doctor in modern-day having to find out which person in a gathering at an estate is a Kishi clue-style. Hell, you could do a VanHelsing esque story about an African vampire hunter who has to track down and defeat a powerful Asanbosam who is terrorizing remote towns. If you want to be more whimsical and family friendly then make a movie about Anansi the story weaver befriending a human and having to save them from a tyrannical African diety using his cunning and the help of friends he meets along the way. There's literally dozens of African myths and stories you can draw from and it won't be (insert European story) but this time they're (insert minority group) and it's in (insert media format) so please give us money. (Also yes I'm name dropping African myths but not explaining them because you guys need to look them up and see how cool they are, like look up Grootslang and tell me that doesn't look like the coolest most unique monster you've seen.)
