Welcome to Bobbins and buttons. It all began in 2013 when my kids were very little. I taught my sewing classes in the evenings when they were tucked up in bed! I still love teaching and along side my real classes I now share tutorials here. I also produce a range of sewing patterns with styles for all the family. I sell dressmaking fabrics with a focus on sustainability. I think sewing should be an inclusive sustainable practice that anyone can do. My sewing pattern designs generally start as wardrobe solutions for me and my family, they sometimes even help with the making! I think of sewing as part of a well balanced lifestyle. From the mindful process of choosing fabric and design to the creative, practical process of making and then wearing your creation. Each stage is special. I would love to share and connect with you on your sewing journey.
Has anyone figured out the problem with the mismatching leg length at the inside crotch seam step, "step 3" on the website? There were a lot of comments on the blog but no resolution that I can find. Not sure how to proceed... in this video it seems she doesn't run into the problem because when she holds up the pinned crotch it all seems aligned.. but in my shorts the back side leg is about 1.5 inches longer than the front just at the inside..
Hi, someone sent me a picture the other day, and maybe this is the same issue. She had cut the wrong length line. They do sort of all merge together. I am going to see if I can change it to make it clearer. The best way to check is to count back from the outer line. If you are using the third line in, for example, count the third line in for the length on the back piece, too. There are answers to all queries on the blog post. Most were about not finding the download, which we have sorted out.I hope this helps.
That's a good question, I generally never do as sometimes it creates bulk along the seam edge but if the fabric frays a lot then it would definitely be a good idea.
I previously watched your instructions on buttonholes...the best...now came across this video and your neckbands look great. I always have difficulty in them rather on woven or knit...
I have to say thank you for the illustration since it helped me obtain the buttonholes I needed. There is always nervousness trying to do that an your instructions were understandable. The only thing I have to understand better is milimeters compared to our inches in America...LOL..
Thank you for this tutorial, especially the finishing and starting new threads, that makes such a difference to a project but very few people seem to show how to do it. I’m trying to use up my fabric stash and make things I can keep in a present drawer for when I need them and this is a brilliant idea for that! ❤
Thank you for making this video. I want to make a kantha quilt but it feels overwhelming. This is a wonderful way to try the technique on a smaller scale. Lovely!!
Hi Caroline, you need to subscribe to my newsletter. There is a link below the video. The newsletter comes out every week to your inbox. It has a link and a password to take you to a page full of free patterns. This week it will arrive on Saturday. Hope this helps.
Thanks sew much for this video. I will definitely try your technique next slippery top I make. I just finished hemming a slippery knit top with a twin needle on my sewing machine and wasn’t happy with it despite starching it and using a knit hem tape. It created a ridge despite my best efforts. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comment. You've inspired a new video idea going through setting up and some tips and watch points. I have added this to my list. It will be a little while, but I will make the video 😊
I think this is the first time I've understood what a FBA is and how it would make a difference to how my clothes fit. I have a very narrow back but quite a full bust so this will be very helpful in future, thank you 👏
