I'm Stephanie - A Product Photographer and Videographer for food & drink brands aimed at making the world a healthier place. I left my Corporate job for good in 2021 to pursue photography full-time, and now I want to teach you the creative and business skills that helped me along the way, so that you can do the same.
Hi! one last question 🙈 I see you focused once on the can, but when you have 3 actions, like in this example, wont the glass and the nuggets be unfocused? im really struggling with the focus 😱 thanks!!!
Hi there! So since all the items in the frame are relatively the same height, focus isn't really an issue since they're all on a similar plane. This would probably start to become an issue if I focused on the can and had a much taller item in the image. If you do have items that are vastly different heights, I usually shoot with my f-stop at f/14 and that gives everything plenty of focus (as long as your lens isn't too close to everything). For this video, I think it shot it somewhere between f 5.6 and f 8!
I believe it was a full can! Having some liquid in there helps to keep it stable as I'm rolling it across the table so the motion looks nice and smooth.
After a long search I finally found this (thank you, perfect!) However, I can't seem to access the download for the utility for mac./ it keeps quitting before it installs. Any ideas?
Aww I'm so glad you finally found it! I'm not super familiar with mac but to start I would just suggest rebooting your computer and double checking the version that you're downloading? Wish I could see it so I could be of more help!
@@stephanieshaus Thanks, Stephanie. I've tried a lot of things, but the download installer keeps crashing. I think I'll get in touch with canon and see if they can help. Love this site--keep up the great work. Now if I can get this going, I'll be a happy camper :)
I’m trying to build my product photography portfolio right now! Currently trying something similar but I’m trying to make an energy drink float above a cauldron (it’s a halloween flavor energy drink). One literally just exploded on me because I dropped it. Thank you for this 😭😂
Awesome video and thanks for the info! Curious what your lighting placement is like? Looks like the continuous light is coming in from the side, do you use another light on top of that? Thanks!!
Thank you so much for watching! You're correct - a continuous light coming from the right side (no diffusion) and this was shot with just one light! I usually position my light up higher depending on how long I want the shadows, and then angle it slightly downward towards my subject.
Hope all is well Stephanie. I have a question. I’m new to product photography and I’m wondering if I should go with Lightroom mobile or photoshop to edit my photos. What would be a great editing software to start with? Thank you!
Hello there - so excited for you to get started with product photography! You're going to love it so much :) I actually started working with Lightroom (desktop version) and did that exclusively for at least the first couple of years, even with all my client work. As I built my skills, I started leaning more into Photoshop and I actually rarely open lightroom anymore. Just starting out though - I'd say lightroom is a great choice. You can still get fantastic looking edits through there, and it will help you build an understanding of editing concepts and help you build out a workflow until you're ready to start exploring photoshop.
@@stephanieshaus thank you Stephanie for all your support. I know I have a lot to learn but I’ll get there. So Lightroom it is. I can’t wait to start learning as I go. Bye the way I hope your labor weekend was a blast!
This was incredibly helpful! I take product photography of tropical plants to sell online, had no idea how reflective their shiny leaves are in photos and it’s been a struggle to remove the shine without dulling the photo. I’ll be trying these tips out in my photo space 😁
I'm so glad it was helpful - and what a cool niche of photography you work in! As an owner of wayyyy too many plants, I bet you have so much fun with those in the studio!
I actually have a couple and both are from Amazon - if you search for grass rug, you'll get a ton of different size options depending on what you need :)
This is such a lovely video, Stephanie 💪🏻 Your tip #1 is such a simple idea, yet very clever! I will definitely remember this one. 10:55 is my absolute favourite time of this video 🤩 I just know the feeling and hold my breath with you 😁The result is fabulous!! One question: Do you have a video showing how you add the (here yellow) gradient to the final image? Thanks in advance. Hope you are enjoying summer (where do you live BTW, if you don't mind me asking?) 😎 Best from Susanne
Hahaha thanks for holding your breath with me! We do it for the thrill 😂 I don't have a video on this now, but I'm actually working out some plans to get more editing videos on the channel as that's really my favorite part of the process. So always open to more editing topic suggestions too! Summer has been great - super hot just how I like it haha so hope you're enjoying yours too. I'm in the USA!
@@storieinpixel Oh I got you! That's actually just some blue sticky tack from amazon. I've tried a couple white/grey ones before and I haven't found ones that stick as well as the blue haha. Adds a little extra work to editing sometimes but worth it! I'm sure there's a white one out there that works better, I just need to try a few more out ;)
Such a great tip about the pie (incorporating items that represent the same taste without strictly being an ingredient in the product) 👐 Thanks for another helpful video from you Stephanie 🤓 I wish I could start following you allover every time I watch a video but "unfortunately" (at least for the follower counting) I am already a safe follower and maybe even your number one fan😊
