wow you changed your style so quickly in this match, which I through was pretty intresting. You played more agressively against robert this time and ran towards him thus taking in the process. I did not know her hammer reflects projectiles that was a fun moment. Rock vs rugal round was actually really awesome on your part. You pushed him in the corner and then you applied some good corner pressure, you did it so well that he started panicking and began mashing on stuff. Bro I was so mad when the super did not go through the fireball as andy but then you made up for that moment with that awesome super whiff punish.

That is intresting, I could have sworn that dp type attacks have a good chance of avoiding drive impact on their way up. I have seen it happen before in other matches with ryu and ken and where they would dp in response to the DI. The dp would make contact with DI but then it would go over the DI as you go up, and they land on the other side and still recover in time to be able to punish the recovery frames of DI. I guess I have to study Lilly's hurtboxes much better. The last round was awesome btw, I see your gief training has paid off.

you recovered really well with your darli play especially with that sequence in the corner where you killed yamazki, one thing I would love to see more is the idea of using the threat of your normals as a way to gain ground. You have really shown some good spacing and it was clear that the opponent was threatened by your tools. Most of the time they chose to back dash with kula or stay at full screen with iori. I do understand that the ranges that your characters are effective at is somewhere outside of the midrange but look at how good of job you did by controlling that area, how your opponent was giving you all that free space. Especially knowing that eventually you are going to push them to the corner which based on how that went last time with darli, I am sure you would have earsed the life bar in no time. Often at times it felt like you were doing attack into attack, and then just waiting for something to happen. Use that as opporutnity to gain ground once you notice that your opponent is afraid of your normals. Gain ground on them and make the worry about the prospect of them gettting cornered. Other than that really good match and well played on your side. Keep it up Arvelle!!!!

I would recommend using standing jabs to counter short hop offense in this game. KOF is a system game, so that are usually many answers to same situation, one that I am aware of is the fact that standing jab or standing 1 is usually the go to anti air button against short hop pressure. Othwerwise I really like your timing when it comes to picking your moments of when you want to counter. I can tell you improving at the game. Good job man
@ArvelleWhitaker
@ArvelleWhitaker Год назад
I really struggle with short hop defense. I know its coming, but my brain is frozen to act. After some thinking i think i found a solution to that problem. Characters like rock that have a traditoinal standing jab, its easier for me to defend. Darli's is weird...it doesnt go straight out. its points down at an angle.

Part 2: 5:04 note something about how the Luke was ready to anti air you. The reason is because you initially chose to approach with a jump. So, in one way you influenced him to look for it even though you were not in range to attack when you did the first jump. Always try to refrain from showing your hand when you have the chance. You can see a similar effect to when people whiff buttons outside of their effective range, even though the button does not connect people on average can not help but think about that button and how to counter it. I do understand that he is using his projectile which is what you is causing you to jump, but more than often you would surprise by how much ground you can gain if you pick up on their rhythm of projectile throwing and just walk until you are in range to attack. There is nothing more scary than a gief and you don’t know when he will jump since all they do is walk and are more than capable of gaining ground just by walking their opponent to the corner. 5:29 - 5:44 excellent job, that was awesome to watch. Teching every throw attempt like that especially in an online situation is not easy. Excellent showcase of your defensive skills, also this is what will eventually win you more games. Especially in a game like sfv where the offense is hailed as superior, it is the defensive skills that end dictating to me who the real champions are, since they are so hard to crack under pressure situation. You could have ended that match at many moments, but you did not since you chose to work on your defensive skills. It is a shame that the player rage quit , most of the time I feel bad when that happens since moments like these are not intended to humiliate the opponent but are moments for them the grow. Most of the time I wish I can reach out to these players to make them understand that. I hope this player remembers this and grows from it. 6:27 wow that is awesome, I did not even know that was possible. You just straight up jumped out of that ex moon assault (I think that is what move is called). Many people love to challenge it or parry it in the case of ryu’s. I love solutions since they are simpler and straight to the point. Thank you for teaching me that. 6:43 damn it you read that perfectly I wanted that air spd to connect so bad!!!!!! 6:49 This another skill that I think I respect the most about giefs, knowing when to time your jump with the someone whiffing their button in front of you. I can see that you are getting better at it as the videos goes on. Whiffing normals is already universally despised thing in our community and most of the time when it happens, you will find that the players fall into the mentality of regrouping and backing away. So most of the time they will just back dash, walk back, block for a second. Very little people whiff with intention, you will notice that at lower levels most people whiff because they want to hit you while at higher levels they want to whiff because they want to bait you. However every once in a while you can catch both levels of players off guard, especially when they use moves that have a highg number of total frames. Getting a read on those normal and when they are used can prove to be useful down the road since most likely you can get a jump in if you time it correctly. 6:58 omg, 2LP still impresses even after all those videos. Amazing utility across different situations. It sometimes begs the question of whether we should have more games where the number of moves are few but the utility of those moves are vast instead of giving multiple moves (e.g. tekken) only for me to focus on maybe 13 of them as I learn. 7:04 speak of the devil, excellent jump timed to the opponents 5HP. I man telling brother, you are getting scarier and scarier as the videos go on. 7:24 oh brother that was just beautiful to watch, whiff punish SPD. You could have done it twice too, but good job on changing your response. I think that is more indictive of your mastery than just doing the same thing over and over. Having multiple solutions to the same problem is very important in the long run, in this case you did an awesome job showing that you can Whiff punish with an SPD or a sweep if you want to. That ends up sending a scarier message to the opponent, compared to them just thinking that they got tagged by the SPD as they whiffed. 7:35 I just noticed something odd, I never knew that gief teleported a bit to the front when he landed his normal throw. Let me know if you saw that as well. I am not sure if that is rollback or that is how it actually happens in the game? Very interesting. 8:28 I love this subtle moment; this is footsies 101. Don’t crouch and don’t block. A literal pixel outside of the range of the move. Great job, keep it up. 8:37 if you are ever going for normal throw I suggest to train your self to OS lariat or 5LP during the throw whiff animation. I now as ryu players we have the same OS with dp. It works especially well in the corner. 8:47 great button choice in that situation, 5HK both as preemptive anti air fishing and stuffing the start up of whatever move she was doing. I wonder what it was. Omg and the counter hit put them in the air which allows you to get an air reset into 50/50. Geez 9:48 good job on picking up on the weakness of this luke player (weak anti airing) and not exploiting it until the right moment. Snuck in all those hits just to get the right amount of life left to ensure that you super will kill. Most of the time players give answers to their opponents thus revealing the intention prematurely, being patient with the information that you collect and unveiling at the right moment is skill that not a lot of people have. Great job, keep up the good work.

Part 1: Happy holidays brother, hope you and your family are doing well. Sorry again for the delayed response, but like I said my jobs are just taking too much from me at the moment. Still thought I enjoy whenever I can some time to sit down and watch and give some feedback whether it helps or not :P , the other parts will be coming soon, I hope you are patient with me. 0:20 great read!!! Nothing better to show your opponent that you have a read on the escape options than double dash in their face. I love it that you know you got them since they still had a chance to jump out of the spd but they did not since they are like a deer in head lights. Same situation repeats and this time you switch to another option, good job on doing that as well. It is like Jose wrote in his title, if it works stop using it. 0:40 I wonder if you could have stuffed the startup of that move with jab as you landed? Or maybe even sweep it? I notice that most of the time when you land outside of the anti-air range of opponents. Most of opponents like to move forward to gain some space or poke since that is a way for them to establish some control since they were not able to anti air. What you can do is if you jump while expecting to land on them but then they move out of your range you can OS a sweep or jab out of your jump input to stuff their approach or poke attempt. If you land on them that OS move will not come out and you will be free to continue your pressure. I would suggest to do it with jab since it is not a high commitment move but as you get better reads on what they do you can start to put moves in like sweep or even Lariat. 0:47 that was really cool using the air spd to avoid the attack 1:04 omg it feels like you can not press anything against button, 2LP is too stronk. Or maybe it is Arvelle :0 1:09 huh that is interesting I am not sure why she got air reset after she got hit with the 6HP, is her forward dash airborne? Or is that the hit effect of 6HP? 1:13 that is some awesome spacing, made her block the tip of 6HP and that landed you outside of many of her go to pokes. Bro thank for what happened next though, I am getting flash backs of sf4 gief, gief players would throw HK in the neutral in anticipation of a jump however when that does not happen, they would hit you with the SPD. The good ol times. Great clip. 1:45 lol you know you got them when you are standing still and they are not doing anything in response. The mika was completely mesmerized and did not know what to do. This like a mental checkmate. 2:15 wow I am not even sure what that Lariat counter hit? One cool thing is you can appreciate is how when you perform high commitment moves, almost everyone is enticed to try to do something to initiate their pressure whether it is jump or poke and dahs forward etc.…., good job on staying vigilant and whiff punishing with 2LP in that situation. 2:23 see the situation is here again, you did not land on him but you were very close. In this situation just press sweep almost as though you’re doing an option select and I think you would have swept him from that range. You probably know better though. You don’t have to be afraid of him moving out of range since the proximity hit box from you jump in attack will lock him into place. A lot of giefs in sf2 used this technique actually with SPD, since what they would do is whiff their attack right close making you think that you going to block it but then their move would whiff and they would buffer the spd as they land and then let it rip, keep in mind thought in sf2CE and HF gief had no whiff animation on his spd so that mean that if you negative edged the spd you could have almost get a guaranteed spd every time you landed close to them that had no drawback. However, since in sfv we have a whiff animation, change that sweep and now you have way to KD people that uses the same idea. Just something to think about as you keep playing him. 2:40 good job on using jump LK as an air to air, most people forget about these things and most of the time they try to air to air with slow normal not realizing that speed also applies when you are in the air. The hurt box of his air special move (seth) is kind of odd, you managed to hit in that angle 3:35 I actually kind of like that, standing at the range it actually turns in a bait for her to dash in after you block the MIC. 3:45 I really like the courage to do that, trying to keep the proper spacing so that if she decides to drop kick you can stuff with your 2LP. I always get nervous since I am passive player, so really awesome job on moving forward and maintaining that distance. But overall I love the adaptation and response to Mika’s initial dash in attempts, you quickly adapted to poking more with 2LP which not only dissuades her from dashing in but also stuffs her drop kicks. 3:55 so see in this situation since Mika decided not to keep moving back you landed on her, had you OSed sweep in that jump it would not have come out however if Mika decided to keep moving back as you were in the air, you would have been able to lock in her in place due the promixity hit box but also you would have been able to sweep her or even SPD her as you get better it. Keep in mind that they might be expecting to block the attack too. As you get better with it you can start playing the mind game of I am going to empty jump/jump in attack (with OS hidden in them)/whiff an attack just outside of its range and let the OS come out since. Note the reason why I say sweep and SPD are the best two options is because if the opponent is expecting to block the attack then what they are doing is holding the back button which you can counter with sweep and since they are blocking I think a jab SPD will hit them if they are in range. 4:12 both of you were peering into each other eyes, what a lovely moment. This reminds me of the scene from the movie hero where both Jet-li and Donnie yen are fighting each other but only in their minds while nothing is happening in the real world. 4:38 OMG the pin point accuracy!!!!!! that is really awesome, you are becoming a master with that tactic. Really good stuff. 4:54 wow as an akuma I can get demoralized if my teleport can get grabbed on its start up. Good job brother I did not know that could happen. I thought that it might have had some throw invincibility but I guess not.

Part 3: 10:05 I like this clip because you can see that proximity caused by the hop kick caused the guile to panic. Since Gief is so close all of a sudden, all his tool kit is in play especially the command grabs. I really like the choice of the string you used, first 2LK to force them to crouch block, which exacerbates that feeling even more since most people would hate to be grounded against a close grappler. Then 2LP which is fast enough to frame trap them if they commit to anything slow while at the same time having the property of anti airing if they choose to jump out. 10:12 that was an awesome walk back you did there, waiting for potential counters to spd after a knockdown. The walk back in was well timed as well, just as soon as he landed it seems like your spd was ready, really good job. 10:34 this gives a whole new meaning to the term safe jump. That was awesome, your recognition of the empty jump spacing is becoming better every video. 10:42 I really love that dash check, that was not easy to do especially knowing that ryu has one of the fastest one’s in the game. Coupled with the fact that you 2LP into SPD feels automatic right now. Bro I am not even sure I would approach you knowing what I know. 11:34 I really like this because after brief moment of silence where now one was doing anything that Lariat would have counter a potential reaction sonic boom in response to the slight movement that you made, but what I did not anticipate that it would counter his upside down kick as well. 11:37 wow if you whiff 5MP twice, they can not walk forward or sonic boom you in response to the first whiff 5MP. :O 12:14 Arvelle going into his Zidane mode. 12:22 I don’t even know what you hit there; it must have been his transitionary frame because he looked like he was crouching before it connected. 13:08 I just had a thought here that I wonder if it would be awesome for you to implement but it requires some discipline. Seeing how in that situation you were expecting for him to stand still and block the attack, I think what would be cool is for you to start implementing jump in option selects. So lets say for example in this case you jumped in with MK and you OS your HOP Kick or Sweep (just for the sake of an example), had he stayed stationary you OS would not have come out. However, since he moved away like that, what happens is that you OS will come out and, in this case, you could have swept him if he decided to keep moving or what ever other things you wish to do with your OS. I am not sure how effective that is but give it a thought. 13:09 Ah the good old jab fake into fireball, most of the ryu players crutch when it comes to fireball mind games (including me), good job on seeing that and responding appropriately 13:43 oh wow!!! that was a beauty, you can even see the start up animation just before he gets grabbed. That must have been demoralizing to the ryu player. Good job brother, I love clips like this since they make people aware of the actual properties of their moves rather than assuming that shoryuken is airborne or throw invincible. 14:07 Zidane mode round 2!!!!, also great whiff punish with the headbutt. That is not easy to time. 14:12 bro that was beautiful spacing using all those normal, perfectly spaced just outside of the sweep range. Good job brother.

Part 2: 5:42 good read on rhythm of the Cammy’s poking. Seeing such reads was really cool. I also like that that little 2MK to dissuade the Cammy from trying to move forward immediately after her neutral jump. What I did not know is that you recovered faster than her after the jump while she simultaneously did v-skill, I like it because it was a way for you to gain more ground while being able to maintain pressure in case it happened. Note that is really works well after you have just established that you are willing to poke to stop her from moving forward. Usually, Cammy players would respond to superior poking by two major ways, the first is v-skill and the other is jump dive kick. 5:54 yeah, your ability to initiate SPD after 2LP is becoming awesome to watch, really good job on that brother, keep up the good work. As to what happened after that, what can I say? Welcome to the blender I assume. 6:20 ok that is fucking awesome, you used the same concept of using 6HP armor as anti air except you applied it to the fact that it is practically the same as ex-bear grab. Another great moment from this video. I only wish you did what Jose did in his video though, taunt while she whiffed her ex SBK. That would have a been great shout to Kaizen, but I still like the whiff punish though that is good as well. 6:47 to 7:12 I thought that was great demonstration of good bulldogging. Good job brother, Keep it up. I also love the idea of chasing after the grab tech. I also love that you bulldogged him all the way to other corner of the screen which was just impressive. 7:47 is my favorite moment from this match though, that whiff punish is insanely good. 8:49 wow bro it is crazy how such stun and damage you created by just using a couple of well-timed jabs in the corner, Jose was right. Good job brother. What is amazing to me thought is that after all those suggestions for chun-li to hold her ground and not to try just jump out of the pressure, she still refused to stay grounded. I guess that is the mentality of when gambling when you are way too deep into a whole, you are just banking on lucky hit to bail you out from the hole you dug yourself in. I guess one thing we can learn is that if you put another chun-li in the corner like that and she has full sticks of butter, you should bank on the idea that they are operating with that mentality. Since they see that they have full meter, they probably think all I need is just one good jump in. 9:31 Yeah, that was excellent. Even I thought I would have been able to anti air punish. Now you are really playing with that jump arc. This in the long run will make your actual jump in attacks even more scary.

Part 1: 0:00 I know that V-reversals are not throw Invincible, I wonder If you even need to wait? I wonder if you land a jump like that if you can OS SPD in the jump that way if they choose V-reversal the SPD will automatically grab them and if they don’t then perhaps you can continue your pressure. 0:07 In addition, good job on cleaning your execution brother, I now have hard a time seeing your spd buffer after the light attacks. You make it ambiguous right now as to whether you are going for SPD, Jump attacks, Anti Air in anticipation of their jump out. 0:31 referencing the footsies handbook and the importance of putting your opponent in the corner, you can see how important it is in street fighter to do that. Yeah when you think about it that is one of 6HP weakness, the fact people can walk away from it and whiff punish it, but in the corner that is a whole different story. All sudden your opponent can not walk backward from your pokes. Add the fact that you have a move that has armor on it, even retaliation can be dangerous. In the first case the opponents gief almost got anti aired, the second time he got beat clean. You are completely dominant in this situation, this the time when you should walk up SPD. 1:13 I am pretty sure that you can just spd punish his slide, I really love that empty jump SPD though. Most of the time you expect a jump in to come in when you see, but when it does not happen it throws you completely off so much that you forget that you are standing next gief at blank range when he lands. 1:33 You see, I mentioned this before in another video but I noticed that other people love to back dash once you hit them with V-reversal because they just don’t want to stay close to you seeing you are gief. This a great moment for you to make a read and dash up to make gain some ground. 1:48 good job on staying vigilant and anti airing his wall jump. Yeah your spacing was really good in that situation if wanted to go behind you can jab him and if he decided to stay on the same side you can lariat, that was really awesome. 2:29 that was just hilarious. This reminds me of Vega back in sf2CE and sf2HF, on his stage he was forced to grab onto the wall every time he did his Barcelona attack. It was a disadvantage because it gave the player more time to react to his animation as soon as let go of the wall. I love the taunt too XD. 2:47 good job stand blocking that and not crouch blocking to make her more negative, most players forget that detail. It is even more crucial to big characters since she is even more negative in that case. 2:56 that was just beautiful, the perfect button to keep just outside of her sweep range, I also love the reaction dash in SPD in response to the whiffed sweep. 3:05 great interruption with the 2LP, she kept thinking that is okay to just do that raw in neutral. Good job on giving her the false sense of security by allowing her to do it a couple of times before countering it. Most players love to counter immediately and forget that they don’t have to if the situation does urgent. You can sit on your read and use it for a more crucial time. 3:23 This something that you can appreciate about mirror matches, both the opponent and you are always at same range. Meaning that if you have just put yourself outside of 2LP range the other person is effectively in the same situation. I love that all those 2LP that this kept spamming in hopes of hitting you once not realizing that they are out of that range since you have just hit them with a 2LP yourself. I also love a mirror match because the are a really good test of whether you really know your spacing or not. Good job on demonstrating that with whiff punishing 6HP by being just outside of its range. 3:46 great job on knowing the frame data and punishing his 123 punches every time he did them. the frame data study is paying off I see. 4:24 that ok that was so sick, I really did not know that the hit box was that low that it can allow whiff to punish crouching normal. This might my favorite part of the video for now. I will reserve judgement until I am done watching fully. 4:50 it looked like you grabbed him from a across the screen. 4:56 Bro I really love that, using that reset situation to place yourself in spacing to make yourself open to counter poke. Using that fear of a reset to land an ex-bear grab. That is awesome, mind games and hitbox knowledge combining into one moment. Good job brother.

Part 2: 9:31 I really like your awareness of you jump arc, from the ken’s perspective I thought I would be able to anti air you as well. That is air to ground to footsies, really awesome clip. 9:39 that one thing I would warn you about is to be vigilant about the state in which your opponent is in when you are poking them with multiple 2LP. In this case ken was in a standing state when you are poking him, which means he could have be holing up or he could have been walking backwards, obviously it is good that he was walking back but just be careful that if he was holding up he might have landed a full combo on your whiff spd. 10:06 lol wth just happened? I had to slow it down to see it, but after he hit you with his air normal it looked like you jumping frames got eaten by the rollback or something. XD 10:23 good reaction in response to the teleport, but damn that ex-bear grab is starting to look scarier as I think about it. you really can not poke at all from some ranges. Also yeah that LP after effect looks like muzzle flash to me. XD 10:42 he who 6HP last wins the game, it is like a game of chicken. XD 11:12 Yeah that is scary mind game, you can choose to cross up, go for poke pressure, or go for spd. 11:22 I like this clip because you can see that he is looking for your 6HP so badly, just walking around that range waiting for it. He could not even react to you dashing and SPD him in the face. 12:00 nice whiff punish but I want to see a whiff punish with spd next time. 12:02 that was a really nice bait, I did not know that you would be still in range to punish her with SPD. Does that also avoid her anti air move as well? 13:04 what is crazy is when he is so close like this, he is daring to poke too which make it even more enticing to poke him, not knowing that it is a death sentence if you ex-bear grab them.

Part 1: 0:23 I really like that you used the suddenness of a successful whiff punish to walk and spd. Good job on staying alert and being quick with that. 0:49 shades of sf4 and when players used focus attack as an anti air XD 1:06 I really like that you starting to know the range of normal moves and the associated push back. In This specific case knowing that a blocked 2HK will place you just outside 4MK seeing that is the most popular move that most dhalsims will use in the close range. Excellent whiff punish. I wounder if you could have whiff punished it with lariat? (just a thought) 2:01 great response to the teleport with 5LP, I bet even the dhalsim did not know you can do that. 2:39 Yeah, I can see how activation right now ken is a bad idea against zangief. Good job on using the ex-bear grab to shut his pressure down. Wow though grabbing that tatsu start up, now that is an awesome moment. Also I just noticed his name XD 4:00 great reaction to the neutral jump with dash SPD, especially after landing one just before. This must feel frustrating for this ken since he is trying his best to play as passively as possible. Knowing that Zangief can dash at any moment and start his pressure and having to be ready to poke him if he tries to advance. In this case you can even tell he was trying to do that with that neutral jump HK, in anticipation of an immediate advance. That is why the Ex dp came out, that is just frustration materializing in the game in the form of a shoryuken, you know you got them when they start doing that. 5:13 oh wow I did not know that you can technically place characters outside of v-reversal range, I would loved to see a potential whiff punish for that, or is it even possible to whiff punish that? 5:46 that was awesome, was that an OS or was it reaction? It is still scary since that means you can not just runaway from gief and you have to take his pressure, Good job. 6:17 I really like that brief walk forward to just make the ken commit to thinking that you are going to play a poking game, then BAM!!! ex-grab 6:36 that was nice whiff punish with lariat. 7:04 the moment you know that you are playing against a Zangief that is vigilant and not just doing Gief things. I love the use of air spd to avoid fireball. 7:53 nice chase down with 2HK in anticipation of the v-shift. I did not know you can actually hit v-shift. Also if you land a critical art, does that count as 2 SPDs? XD. 8:36 your 2 crouching LK in this clip lined up with music in the background, I am not sure if you noticed.

A few things that I loved about the video: I love the fact that up picked up on the Seth’s tendency to dash back after a blocked spin kick he does. Good job and chasing with a dash forward and spd. Lol the chops are easily the best part of the video, you just wanted to shake their hand and the refused to shake back XD 1:24 I really like that empty jump, I hope to see more of those. In the future, it is not easy to do but once you master this, your actual jump in attack will become even scarier. 1:45 wow that was a nice, unexpected ant air with 2LK of all things, excellent job on being vigilant and using as a moment to spd. I bet even the Ken did not know that was going to happen no wonder he froze in his place. 2:39 that was really awesome moment, I did not know that Gief hitbox was able to hit rose out of her slide. Good job on that that was really awesome. 3:31 I really like that kick because it is a good way to fish for any potential jump in while simultaneously moving you forward in range for the SPD. 4:55 yea this personally a really tough situation to deal with, when gief has a lead like this, if he starts using the 2LP like that considering his high HP and the fact of how good that hitbox is for the 2LP the Mika had to have some hard reads on your rhythm on in order for her to counter you. good job on standing your ground and using that strategy. 5:08 awesome job on using the SPD to stay in the air to avoid the fireball, you are slowly but surely starting to understand your tool kit and the different applications, I am not sure if you can contend with you right now. 7:38 great read on the jump and capitalizing on the tension of the situation, considering you where still close to him after the air to air where most player love to tech, and avoiding the tech attempt to give you an opening for the spd. 9:11 wow that was really awesome, great spacing. Standing just outside of the 2LP range and also great awareness to use the EX bear grab to potentially absorb longer range moves that might follow up the 2LP. Gold clap. 11:10 you are now starting to make 5LP look like a dangerous button, the Iron handshake. XD 11:39 Was that a negative edge SPD? If so well done sir, that was really executed. Extra notes: I noticed that a lot of players like to back dash a lot of after your V-reversal look for more opportunities to chase down and spd if possible.
