I use all three companies , MXR, Boss, and electro harmonix .MXR Envelope filter, Boss OC-5 Octave pedal, Boss chromatic tuner pedal,, and electro harmonix deluxe big muff pie 2 fuzz pedal, and 360 looper pedal.
G3 is just better sounding IMO, like yes, the grabber sounds awesome, but the sound the G3 gets in each demo just sounds cleaner, better, and so perfect (dont come at me) this is what my ears are hearing
The basses sound different, the new bass sounds darker, a tad more bottom end, but actually more low mids. The gibson's pickups might have some windings shorting or are actually lower impedance (which implies lower capacitance), and that might be a reason why the tone is different. The gibson's pickup magnets mightve lost some stranght too, the newer bass sounds boomier, as if the signal was higher and it was equalized in post.
I got a used Jet Jr a year ago, or so. I just picked it up because I had heard it was a good value. It's not a Kiesel or Taylor or anything, but @!#$%, what a value! April I got a 2nd one and had it turned into a baritone (BEAD). 10/10. If you are demanding or recording, this thing is still worth upgrading (I got a fat brass bridge, switchmaster, etc on mine - worth it for that neck & vibe, imnho.)
In a color they look decent and I can listen to the tone. The natural finish in particular makes them look huge and clunky, like a Norwegian kitchen table from the 70s.
I totally agree with your points here. Wood does matter. "You get what you pay for" generally holds true, and "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" likewise, I reckon.
Damn! I wish I watched this video just before I bought the Roto flats, because I was switching from Chromes and wanted brighter but I miss the feel of Chromes.
My placid blue came with a toirtoise(red) pick guard & I’d like a white/whatever the vintage white….parchment maybe? Anyhoot, anyone wanting to trade holla at a playa! & well work it out
This is the most baddest of azz in looks & playability, the nut width is perfect. One thing is , I think the low E Strange would rattle a wee less if it stretched to to end of the headstock vs the beginning, something I may try at some point, there’s room & I think with a little work & s new headstock decal, no one would be the wiser
Longtime fan of the G-3/Bass Channel here- The tones are so incredibly similar, but to my ear the tribute G-3 sounds more open, or like full-spectrum? Maybe hi-fi is a good word. it seems like the ‘78 has a more-mellow, strange kinda choking in the low mids, resulting in that signature, vintage-y clank. Maybe it’s just a difference in the resistance of the pots being used for the two, or an additional capacitor, idk I’m not a guitar tech hahaha Never heard of Decibel before but these builds are SO legit!! Gripper is such a clever but obvious name for a Grabbber/Ripper tribute model, can’t wait to see what else Jerimy creates (maybe a take on the 80’s Candy Apple Red G-3’s with black pup covers?? 🤤)
Good ear. I hear the gripper being more punchy but the 78 has some serious character that I think you expect from older instruments. It’s got built in mojo!
After 10 years of not playing bass, I'm back and the gear bug is back with a vengeance. I just bought a used Sterling stingray and I love it. I'm watching this video and I have to suppress that "gotta have it" feeling.😢
