Quick beads might not be as durable anyway but it might be more objective to apply the coatings side by side instead of top and bottom, since the bottom is always gonna get worn more, especially if you drove in rain at all after application. Thanks for the test!
Thanks! The whole point was to test quick beads, wet coat was just for reference in this test. So having quick beads on the bottom gives me a better indication on durability and also helps me lay out all test products better than using separate panels.
None of the “topper” products used are really designed to give very much protection. In fact many retailers refer to them as sacrificial layers to be used up instead of your main protection. Most of them are designed to be used weekly or bi-weekly to enhance gloss and water beading
i will say doesnt surprise me with the top acting a little better, as the bottom gets beat up alot more. to get a better idea if it was product or location. 1 door shoulda been wet coat and one door shoulda been quick beads then you can see how they both perform in the harsher area and the less harsh on the top of the door
I thought of that too, however it would have made my product testing harder to do. Also the vehicle is barely contaminated so the lower panels didn’t get impacted any more than the top.
It just saves you an extra step at the end of your contact wash where you don’t need to rinse off any soap residue. You go straight to drying. That’s all .
In my experience, the "scarring" or "masking" effect is only temporary, which matches up with the water behavior shown here on your 7 day follow-up wash. This is why many sealant/coating "torture tests" on RU-vid are kind of bogus. Hardly anyone ever follows up after a few days (or even hours) to see if hydrophobics return to the products they tested.
Great video. I do appreciate the thorough attention to the detail of the product itself and the whole application process. I have just picked up this product for my new wheels which are matte black. I hope you may be able to answer a few short questions for me before I begin the application on my new wheels. 1. How has the product held up since you've applied it? 2. Was there a specific flash time to wait before wiping down during applying the coating? 3. Was there any discoloration to the matte finish after application or cleaning? (That's my worst fear) 4. What CarPro products are recommended to use for cleaning? 5. After several months and cleanings later, do they still clean as easy and look as good? Thanks a lot, I'm saving this video for reference when I start the process.
Thanks! Product is just starting to show signs of deterioration after almost 2 years of application so I’d say It held up well. Flash time will depend on your temperature and humidity. But it does flash quick and it feels tacky No discoloured finish the wheels are perfectly fine. Carpro recommends to just use their car shampoo (reset) and once in a while also spray some iron x to resolve iron particles. You can also use any wheel cleaner of your choice. Wheels are definitely easier to clean however since the coating now is slowly fading I will be transitioning to just spraying Gyeon Wet coat to my wheels after every other wash, as I find it to be just as effective as an actual coating with less longevity of course, however i don’t enjoy coating wheels. It’s not worth the return in investment imo. Good luck with your project!
@@DetailProjects thanks for the information and the update on the product. I kinda see the return on the investment in the product if one or two coats lasts 2 years with average daily driving. Even more so if the coating itself didn't crystallize after 3 months of being opened, but we can't change that unfortunately. I'll be careful to watch for the quick flash time and wiping off immediately.
I switched to the Woolly Wormit version 2.0 due to it being available at a lower cost, and to me, it's worlds better than the Detail Fatory barrel brush . It's bendable, gets nicely between brakes and the wheel barrel and is just night and day better than the Detail Factory brush , no contest , plus Black Tie Brands doesn't appreciate it as much as the Detail Factory does theirs cost wise.
It's on their website, I'm a detailer and have been using this method for a little bit and have found great results also using a strong brush to pull the dirt out.
Can't change the colour of a car so maybe change the lighting angle, it may help the water behaviour come through better on camera. I've no doubt however that it wouldn't have been anything other than what you described. Glad the Megs did so well. I use it on wheels since it's release, after every wash. I don't consider it man enough for anything else. Well, maybe a top up on the body if you've got a coating. Appreciate your honesty, time and effort..
Dude...if that's the kind of dust you have in your area, nothing will prevent it from landing on your car. You could try and increase the Dream Maker ratio...that might help. But if you're getting that amount of dust in 1 day, there's no product that will stop it from landing.
*Excellent video, thank you for your time.* Could you please write down the name of the older wheel brush you still prefer to use (RAG company or whatever it is)? Thank you,
I think this type of wash is done best with a stack of clean towels soaked in the solution. Use a fresh towel for each section and only wipe in one direction.
I have been using the Turtle Wax product for awhile. I decided to try the Dawn Platinum and I feel it works just as well, for routine weekly cleaning, anyway. I saved my last Turtle Wax spray bottle with the foaming trigger and use that to apply it. You may find that a helpful tip.🙂
Hows it going? I have similar tests going on my channel; nice to see your perspective. It seems like we are getting similar results so far, except I think in my testing the coating is pretty slick from the beginning up until now. Look forward to see your future results and I am also doing some update videos at the 3-6 month and year mark.
Used Turtle Wax hybrid iron remover on my wheels for the first time last week. I have never seen anything clean so well. I was only expecting to remove iron but they were spotlessly clean also. That's my go-to wheel cleaner now. I don't see much in this video as the wheel you started with is pretty clean to begin with.
