I used to read a lot of sports books when I was young. "The 'Say Hey' Kid" was a good one, by Lou Sahadi. While I forget almost everything I read back in '74 or '75 (I think Wiĺie was playing for NY Mets then), the thing that Sahadi says, and everybody knows, was that Mays was one of a handful of players during his day that was a 5-star man: He could run, throw, catch, hit and hit for power (666 hrs, or around there). There was some controversy about Mays during his time with the Mets, but I am quite happy that I grew up being able to see him play on the baseball game of the week (free) and get to know about him. RIP 'Say Hey' Kid.
I was a young teen when he was with the Mets living in the Bronx. There was controversy in my mind's eye. He dropped a ball on one play in that period (71-73) if i remember correctly he was in his early 40's by then.
Sochan is another weird free throw shooter, he shoots with one hand. He didn't always do this it was actually suggested to him by Greg popovitch. Some of these weird free throw styles just work better for certain people.
In Barry’s last three years in the league he shot .93%, .95%, and 94% from the free throw line. In fourteen years, his career average was .89%. If I was a 6’9” basketball player with some skill, I would perfect two things; Rick Barry’s free throw technique and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Skyhook. Why don’t these guys do that?
Tim was one of the most intelligent of all sports media figures. He was also Steve "Lefty" Carlton's favorite batterymate for several great seasons with the Cardinals and the Phillies.
At 10:47 that photo of Willie wearing the Cangrejeros uniform surprised me, love it !!! Blessings from San Juan 🇵🇷 Puerto Rico, R.I.P. the great Willie Mays. ⚾😢
We can’t believe anything Lobo says at this point. She contradicts herself constantly, is transparently hypocritical on a major level. Not to mention she talks down to fans and other sports commentators alike, and has openly said most people are too stupid to have their own opinions on women’s basketball. She’s bad for the sport, and bad for other women athletes
Only fans who didn't have the privilege of having Stevens on your team feel that way. A good example of a dirty player and a cheapshot is Matthew Tkachuk. Hard to tell what he will do, all dirty plays are in his tool box. Whereas, players in Steven's era knew that they had to keep their heads up crossing the blue line with the puck.
A local bar in Fayetteville named Jr's had a promotion every road game where they picked a player of the game. Any time the player of the game made a basket from the field, the price of draft been went down a nickle. Todd Day was POTG for this one. Jr's had to cap the price at $0.15. I think if they had kept going, they were going to have to pay us a nickle or so for every beer by the time the game ended.
