I got a pair of 403 CXL and I like them a lot but I know what they are a casual boot not a rugged boot . They are now over priced and Harrison Ford must have been a furniture carpenter because if he was building houses or real work they would probably last 3 months or less . I did concrete foundation work for 5 years and these will not hold up to doing real work or rugged conditions like a pair of Redwing 606 for instance . I think the Alden Indy is a very good casual boot and you can do things like light hiking and motorcycle riding and stuff like that but your not going to ride dirt bikes or hike the Appalachian trail or anything like that .
I am actually considering between crockett and jones or trickers for their boots. Trickers looks more rugged and strong but crockett and jones looks more handsome.
CXL other choices, besides VSC, Saphir's Greasy Leather (in neutral or brown for scuffs) it has neats oil in it. Also Saphir offers a higher end SAPHIR Medaille d’Or Oiled Leather Cream which also has neatsfoot and adds apricot oil and a tiny bit of wax for a bit of satin shine to your Chromexcel boots.
I have a pair of 403 I bought 17 years ago. They are still in perfect shape although I don't wear them much anymore but have been used on many European trips .
Hi, I have size US 8 of the 875 of Red of these beautiful 9060 will I have to buy the same size?. I imagine they are just slightly narrower not shorter, correct? Thank you👋🏻
Great!!! they are perfect!! I ask you for advice, it is better to use your product immediately to nourish the skin. or should I use them for a few months first? Thank you
@CarmeV46 good to hear! I would say given they are not too old stocks and weren't sitting on the shelf for a long time, also the leather is oiled. Therefore wear them for a bit and treat them when needed!
@oidokun in all honesty, they are 8 out of 10 on comfort, if I pack reasonable weight in the bag! Once I packed too much and it was uncomfortable but that's not the bags fault haha
Just received my Rose Anvil kilties today. They’re scratch and dent sale items with small imperfections with only one pair not precisely matching in colour. But that doesn’t concern me as it’s mostly hidden anyway and I’m happy with my purchase. Thank you for your video 🤝
I love my Alden’s! I saw the rose anvil videos but I still think they’re great! I bought mine about 5 years ago at around $560 or so. I actually started with the 405’s and later picked up 403’s. I like the 403 better.
Trickers are different league quality wise to Red Wings, I've got three pairs of Henry, tan old and great patina, blue suede and brown which i bought pre owned from eBay, plus Stow and Burford. My cobbler is constantly repairing Red Wings, he likes them for that reason, i asked him would you buy a pair, he laughed, and replied no way
Before to give advises to others, please become a good scientist and wait for more experience. I'm a professional in shoe care and what you said about Renovateur from Saphir is simply false !
Devil's advocate: Let's spit vitriol at a ruggedized *dress shoe* and expect it to be built like a White's smokejumper. Then, let's do some collabs with a PNW maker to make a competitor to said shoe we disparaged.
Love my Trickers Henry boots, I've got three pairs, tan many years old with wonderful patina, Blue Suede and just bought a pair of pre owned brown leather with great patina from eBay with worn soles and heels, dropped at my cobbler and he's replacing in Dainite and replacing the stretched elastic side panels
Trickers are the best boots a man can buy in this price point, I've got 3 pairs of Trickers Henry in blue suede, with commando soles, 30 years old Tan, originally leather soles, replaced with Dainite, more comfortable, and the latest addition bought at the factory shop sale on Monday, Kudos brown rough out suede or as Trickers call it, reverse suede, i normally take a 9 Trickers last on the Henry is different to the last on my Burford and Stow, 10 out of ten for Trickers by me. I'm in Northamptonshire borders, Trickers is 20 miles from me, I've had a factory tour, they are made to exacting standards, the tiniest blemishes they go straight to factory shop
Yes I do enjoy Tricker's!! Just wish they had a bit more arch support for my feet. But I should look into insoles. How do I sign up for the factory tour though!! Sounds amazing
Yes, I own Ottawa boots, and they are a bit snug on the top of my foot. I have never experienced that before. Luckily, they aren't too bad, and after break in, it's ok... But you're correct in your observation/experience.
Henry are beautiful, I've got two pairs, tan leather and blue suede, both bought from the factory shop at half price, Trickers and Crockett and Jones are the best a man can get in the price range
I've bought from both, Dale's kilties have better leather selection and are thicker. I recommend you try them out, despite the higher shipping. He'll even throw in a goodie or two that are more thoughtful than a simple tag
The tongue looks a bit like natural Chromexcel. It would be an interesting touch since I believe waxed flesh goes through essentially the same tanning process as CXL. Ordered my first pair of Caswell's, the Carver II in Chestnut Oiled Latigo, a few weeks ago. I've been wearing them every day for the last two weeks. So far I'm impressed with them despite a few manufacturing flaws.
Got two pairs of Henry's, one pair in tan leather about 20 years old, with a wonderful patina, just been resoled and heeled in Dainite, and a pair of blue suede Henry, both bought from Trickers factory shop in Northamptonshire, the best a man can get at that price point
Good to know about the their recraft program. I've been looking at their boots for quite a while, but I guess I never noticed it on their website. I ordered a pair of the Hollis boots in gray/smoke suede a few days ago during one of their 30% off promotions. Also, I've heard of the gentlemen's cut on the heel stack before (my Beckett Simonon oxfords have them), but this was the first time I've heard an explanation of the purpose. Nice bit of trivia.
It isn't pronounced "Rénovatoar". The French "eu" is pronounced like the "e" in the English word "her", the "ea" in "to learn", the "i" in "first" or the "u" in "turtle" for instance. 🙂
Trickers and Crockett and Jones are better made and half the price, come on £1000 for a pair of Chelsea boots is ridiculous but then the Harrods clientele probably wouldn't care.
Crockett and Jones the best a man can get in that price point, i bought my Crockett and Jones Chelsea boots from the factory shop at half price, minor flaw in calf on toe
Hi, I'm French and I was wondering if you could do the same for me? I'm willing to pay you 60 euros plus the shipping costs. Thanks in advance! Best regards, julien
Went to a Red Wing outlet and tried on a pair of these. The guy there helping me really knew his stuff and gave me a pair of size 9s which are my sneaker size. Sure enough they fit me just right. Standard width as well despite my feet being wide. I have a pair of 1000 miles and golden fox boondockers and both are a full size down from my sneaker size. Apparently the 877 fits true to size for me.
3:39 I believe they are fibreboard midsoles. There are a couple re-craft videos of the Beckman on RU-vid and the midsole is cardboard, as is the heel rand.
@@ivanska3099 It depends on what you consider the midsole I guess. But there is definitely a layer of fibreboard in the midsole. I guess technically the outsole is leather with a rubber sole protector. Still the midsole is cardboard. There are plenty of cobblers on youtube that have verified it. Heel rand is also cardboard.
Just remember to moisturize a lil and leave for a day before actual wear.. Or the dry leather may snap with a step (my leather soles did and some on vamp, in dry box for only 2 years) I got impatient and push my shoes hard.
I subscribed a couple weeks back,, thank you for all the boot content you do.., I'm mostly into Whites & Nicks,, but I'd love to get around to a pair of Vibergs one day, thanks
