Great stuff as always. Cool seeing all the artwork, but I think my favorite shots here are the industrial ones, especially 7:18. It looks like you found yourself a good lab!
Oh I love that image as well. Yeah I’m pretty happy with the lab results. Their scans are a bit small but they did a great job for the price. I’m going to be checking out another lab this weekend and see how they do.
Fair enough! I took mine pretty deep into the ocean on a surfing trip in nicaragua and it got slammed by the waves over and over. Seemed to survive just fine.
Thanks for the forecast! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Interesting comparison! There is so much you can do in digitising and post processing, I think K400 is perfectly adequate for me. But one could also argue that it's false economy trying to save a few bucks and risk losing the highlight/shadow details in some cases compared to HP5. Hmm..
I found a list of film labs in China, there’s only one in Hebei which is called保定快乐大叔 and I don’t know if they take walk-ins at all. If you’re going to any other cities do let me know.
Oh thanks so much. I’m living in Beijing at the moment and think I’ve found a lab called spring camera. If you know of any other places I would love to hear about them.
In China we usually send film off to some labs in other cities to develop them. If you ever get to check out Nanjing, 金陵银盐馆is a great film lab. I’m based in Shanghai so I usually would go for Filmpark, but their quality won’t match the quality of 金陵银盐馆
Excellent video! I enjoyed the mix of narrative segments and "shut up and shoot" segments. 10:22 through the tunnel is my favorite shot. Thank you for proving that the A7SIII more than holds its own as a stills camera. By the way, I finally just picked up an F4S thanks to you! I'm halfway through a test roll and loving it so far. Absolute unit.
Duuuude. This video is so dope. The shots are so sick. I've been in a rabbit hole of surf photography videos. Definitely gonna try it on film. Have you printed any of these? how large a print could you do with 35mm?
Bro! thanks so much that means a lot me. Stoked you liked the video. Yeah ive printed a few of them. Ive printed 35mm as large ad 36X24 and had no problem with quality.
NO pixel peeping with analog. You are supposed to hold the two prints in your hand to compare. It is like buying a vinyl record and converted to mp3 so you can listen in your phone. it does not make sense.
That sounds really bad. Lack of lens selection, and no manual controls? Might as well just go with an Olympus om10, and get a better lens selection. 55mm 2.2 is good… for 1950s standards.
Another great comparison! Only thing is that Provia film really has a limited latidude and if you don't stay in that range it will blow the image also the Yashica was over exposing to many scenes in the rocks. One last thing that I have learned from shooting Provia, is that is does terrible in high contrast scenes were the highlights and shadows are too promenent. Other wise I have shot Provia film on medium format (Mamiya 7 II) and it is pretty mind blowing!
Thanks so much, happy that you enjoyed it. Yeah i am realizing that the situation that i chose to do my comparison was literally the worst type of shooting situation for provia.
That is one GOOD BOY! cute doggo. I just ordered this model and found your channel. I like your vibe man. Not too much not trying to be super artsy. Just genuinely being yourself. Subscribed!
Great Video! I really enjoyed the comparison and it has now motivated me to bring out the 1 roll of Across I have in my freg and put it on my Contax G2. I do believe that if you would have used a better film camera that might have matched the lens quality of the X100 you would have gotten even more results on the film. I am wondering if you are going to compare any of the color films because I would be very curious on the results. I also have several Fuji cameras and find that the color film simultions don't come close at all to the real film. Also, new subscriber here!
Thanks so much for subscribing it really means a lot to me. Yeah i have already done a couple color comparisons and i have more that im editing currently. Here is one for Provia ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hOGEzLMiJRA.html and here is one for the ProNeg simulation ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4K6ErwgVehM.html The comparison video for Velvia will be coming out soon.
I just inherited my canon ae-1 program. I was young when i used a film camera. So this was absolutely helpful. The only thing i need to look into, as of now, is when you load your film, do you take a few random clicks/pictures before you are ready for actual poctures? Thank you again for your video. Also, my batery tester doesn't beep. It is a consistent noise as long as i hold the button-down.
Hmmmm im not sure about the battery tester ive never heard of them just being a continuous tone. Are you using the right battery? As for loading i usually take two pictures after closing the film door to get the film to an unexposed section.
Thanks so much! I just finished editing the first video from asia, here's a link to it if your interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b8ty_j6Nigs.html
Kevin! I'm stoked for your next adventure! I just subscribed, and I look forward to joining you on your journey, through your channel! Truly inspiring that you're diving in head first into such a daring venture!
This makes me so happy! seriously thank you so much. I just finished editing the first video from China. Here is a link to it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b8ty_j6Nigs.html
I shared the same journey with my dad. Thank you for making this video and really making me understand more and more why I reference him all the time and everything that I do with the photography.
Thank you for your time: IMHO more of these comparisons should be made. I might have missed it but it would have been intersting to know at what ISO setting the X100V was shot. I do aknowledge the great work Fuji's engineers have done with their film simulation + great sensor of the X100V. The Jpegs are great looking, without clipping the highlights. But there are two aspects which will make my choice go to film: much much more detail and micro-contrast (look at the grass blades and the tree bark on the last shot of "floating" tree) and the gradation of the skies (the X100V produces one shade and basically stays on that color when film produces many more nuances). Have a great day. Thanks
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and make this comment. I’ve got a couple more comparisons coming out soon. Doing a Velvia comparison as well as a black and white shoot out between HP5, kentmere and TX400
I started with the chinon CP5, it was $30 with a 35-80 and it uses k mount lenses which makes finding lenses cheap. The brand chinon is not well known meaning these cameras sell for way cheap. The cp5 also has 2 program modes, apature priority, manual, and multiple exposure integration. If youre getting into film photography, just remember that an expensive box wont get good photos, its understanding your gear.
Nah, Olympus om2n. And if that’s too expensive and you’re on a budget, I’d recommend the Olympus OM20/G. Simple to use and inexpensive, arguably better than the OM10. Doesn’t have the spot meter like the OM2/n but is still a good choice. If you want program there is the later later OM2 SP, or the cheaper OM40/PC
Like most cameras of that era, the designers didn't expect people to be using this camera beyond year 2019 (that's the latest possible year on the time stamp function).
